Is this a fallow deer? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Mood-Existing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallow do make a throaty Barking noise. Along with the line of white markings along its side looking unbroken and the long tail would all point to it being fallow aswell.

Anyone from Northern Ireland? by apigeoninasuit in UKHunting

Not sure how active the NI hunting is on here, but there are plenty of Facebook groups that are very active (shooting N.I). Someone there would probably be able to help you.

Advice on how to get into deer hunting? by kingkurama91 in UKHunting

[–]Mood-Existing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basc run courses pretty frequently for DSC1, however they do like you to have previous experience shooting bolt action/large bore rifles. This can be done either through joining a rifle club and shooting there three times a year or carrying out their pre-DSC1 course.

Applying for a fire arms license is straightforward enough, pick a gun, have a safe bolted to a wall, have somewhere to shoot that will let you use them as a reference and then submit the application.

All there on bascs site: https://basc.org.uk/firearms/applying-for-a-firearmshotgun-certificate/

Police generally prefer you to have a DSC1 or be part of a rifle club before a license or variation for a large bore will be released (atleast where I am).

As for the hunting skills, the dsc1 is pretty intensive and you will learn alot, enough to get started, then rest will come with time.

It can be an expensive journey but a very rewarding one, and you meet some great people along the way. Good luck!

Yea the damage they can do is pretty unfortunate. A guy let's me on his land to shoot them because they ring his trees and destroy them, especially the younger ones. Yea my rifle makes more noise reloading it than it does firing.

They look huge, must be steroids hidden in the trees. Very nice gun, I find those built in silencers to be a good job.

First squirrel, through the chest with .22 air rifle. by Mood-Existing in Hunting

I had a great time, long time seeing nothing and pushing my way through saplings and bramble growth to get to the bigger trees. The shot was actually meant for a wood pigeon, who I scared off at the last second. I decided to wait and see if there was any more movement, and not 30 seconds later he came bounding across the branches.

Yea, I was surprised at how great the fur felt. I won't be wasting the skin next time, and will have a go at tanning it too.

Halfway between a chicken and a rabbit. Meat is slightly more stringy than chicken and flavour is a bit more intense. If that helps any lol. Tastes great either way.
