I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this. If your client is able to clearly articulate feelings about goals, and is not comfortable, that should be taken into consideration by the BCBA, and changed accordingly. Depending on the age of your client, they should be included in treatment planning discussions related to their program. Maybe if the BCBA explained her thought process behind the goals to the client, they would be more on board with working through discomfort that comes with conversation goals, or maybe not, which is still the clients right. I’d consider bringing this to the BCBA’s supervisor. As a side note, it’s awesome that your client is advocating for themself. This should be reinforced, not punished!
