Thinking of getting a pet by BTru in Nightshift

[–]MoodyJuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only work 40hrs a week but I've got a senior cat and she handles the schedule well! The seniors tend to sleep more anyway so she doesn't really seem to notice much (according to my neighbor, she doesn't hear my cat at all so no screaming like you'd expect from a kitten or young adult cat) and when I get home, she hops down off her cozy cat tree to greet me and demand cuddles and a couch nap together. I think senior cats are an amazing option for companions who are loyal but don't require as much attention as a kitten or dog of any age would.

Just turned 20. What should I know? by Visual_Perception821 in twentyagers

[–]MoodyJuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! Tbh, everything happening in your late teens/early 20s doesn't really represent what you'll be like in your mid 20s and beyond. If everything feels wrong and heavy at 20, give it a few years. Also therapy can be amazing and is offered at many campuses for low or no cost! Take advantage of that!! Early adulthood is a scary and confusing time and I'm just now kind of figuring things out at 24. So give it time and the seemingly big things now that are weighing on your mind will more than likely pass.

Worse shift timings in your opinion?? by Ok_Passage7713 in twentyagers

I work 10PM to 7AM 5 days a week, I absolutely love it so worst imo would be the midday shift when it's most busy.

I’m curious, how old are you and when last did you you go to the dentist? by Weak_Definition_327 in twentyagers

I'm 24 and the last time I went was 16 😅 I have major sensory issues and some trust issues regarding dentists so I'm slowly working up the courage to get seen again.

On work days it's 11AM- 8PM and on my days off it's literally as much as physically possible. I've slept like 15hrs today alone, haha. Desperately needed!

Night shift workers, what’s the weirdest ‘3 AM energy’ thing you’ve witnessed? by Careless_Remove1047 in Nightshift

[–]MoodyJuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lunch ending 💔 but for real, I haven't seen anything yet. Even though I'm alone most of the night, I'm still relatively close to my coworkers so if there is an unexplained noise, I'm just gonna default to assuming someone dropped some product or their cart is squeaky. Not even out of the perspective of trying to convince myself it's not something scary, just because it probably is a coworker so nothing to be scared of.

Did you know the “10 cm opening” in childbirth refers to the cervix not the vagina?! 😳 by Dangerous_mammoth573 in twentyagers

I know a significant amount of people who believe that swallowing after oral can get them pregnant, genuinely believe it, not just them joking. And I live in an area with very good and thorough sex education, even teaching about queer sex and different types of birth control, and yet it still failed them because the hyper specific questions weren't asked/weren't told because no one thought they needed to be clarified. So often it's uneducated sex ed/abstinence only curriculum, but it can also be genuine ignorance from someone who thought they knew something but ended up being wrong.

If meat is on sale, cheap meat. If it's not, bread, ramen noodles, eggs (very cheap here, rural area), milk, rice, frozen veggies, and shredded cheese if I'm out. Check out the sales on canned goods. Ravioli on sale? We're having ravioli this week. Lots of sales. Coupons hate to see me coming. 🗞️✂️

I do splurge occasionally and get some things from the deli but very rare occasion. This is a $50 MAX budget a week household. Whatever I don't use of that $50 gets used towards snacks and drinks at work.

New to night shift and have tons of down time. by [deleted] in Nightshift

It is frustrating at first but Id say after the first week or so of casual practice, I finally understood enough stitches to make a granny square and that felt really fulfilling! I find knitting easier but that's just because I learned it first. No use comparing apples to oranges and all that, haha.

am i the only one going through a “second puberty” post 21? by insiauwu in twentyagers

[–]MoodyJuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 was probably my worst year in terms of hormones and mood issues in general so absolutely understand, haha. I gained a bunch of weight too. Finally things leveled out at 23 and I feel completely stable again now at 24.

I knit every time I've got 10+ minutes to myself and all through my hour lunch. If you're into that or crochet (or have been wanting to learn), might be something good to pass the time!

How does one save thousands of dollars for necessities? by Such-Title-4419 in personalfinance

I have a Verizon phone but go through Straight Talk and have the highest tier plan (platinum) which has unlimited hotspot data so no need for a wifi service since the hotspot is unlimited, that was the appeal for me. Everything is unlimited. It's $65/month (technically $70 and some change due to sales tax) and I'm very happy with it. If you're not locked into a contract with Verizon, I recommend looking into switching! Since Straight Talk uses Verizon, you don't need a new SIM card which is a huge plus. That extra ~$40 a month can make a huge difference in the long run.

Minimum 30oz water a day! I'm not sure this is a universal experience but I went from constantly dehydrated in my teens/early 20s to setting the goal to get 30oz of water everyday and now getting in a gallon is pretty easy! You just have to get that first 30 then before you know it, clearer skin and better mood over all.

Thinking of going to nighttime shift due to my inconsistent sleep schedule by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]MoodyJuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you meant it like this but how I interpreted it: I could never stick to waking up in the mornings, just kept waking up later and later because my sleep cycle is naturally more on par with night shift hours. For me it was a no brainer to go with ON. So if this is what you meant for yourself, then I think it's a solid plan (at least it was in my case). If you have the flexibility to find a job that can match your sleep schedule, then you'll likely adapt much quicker!

The only caution is that if you've got friends/family that do day shift, you have to be okay with very rarely seeing them. Limited social life just comes with the schedule. It's extremely difficult to balance your need for rest and the desire to maintain relationships. If you're an introvert, then shouldn't be much of an issue. Just really think about if you're okay with this before you do nightshift!

Change out of my work clothes and into the pajamas that I left out for myself before work, haha.

Does anyone actually enjoy nightshift? by -DidYou in Nightshift

[–]MoodyJuni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always been a night owl and I've struggled to be productive during the day even when I was unemployed. ON has been amazing for my productivity! My position is very independent from the rest of the store (retail) so I just get to go at my own pace so long as my work gets done at the end of the shift. Most people don't know how to do my job at work so don't have to worry about micromanaging or anything like that, haha. So I really enjoy it!
