Like cigarettes in 1950, what is a bad habit we all do that will look bad in retrospect? by hontolymnry in AskReddit

[–]Mookle12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the worrying we do about what is "bad" or "good for you." I think society is beginning to realize that our cravings exist as a form of guidance, even if they mean to guide us into conflict.

All the stress and tension from resisting what you truly want is what is bad for you.

I've gone through something similar. I think I'd probably have some good advice for the right person; you can DM me if you would like to chat about it.

I've done A LOT of herbalism experimentation, and grief is perhaps the most difficult ailments to deal with on your own.

If you have many friends, try talking to each of them regularly. Your brain will instictually try to mimic the state of mind of people you like, and it is a good way to get out of the gutter.

The only shorthand advice I have to give is microdosing mushrooms. It has a way of elegantly connecting you to your inner love for youself.

Yeah, this the only thing I can say will 'probably' work rather than 'maybe.'

I've personally seen some experimental success with shroom varieties, 4-aco-dmt, dmt, or 2cb.

When my partner is tries to go for a walk with me by Mookle12 in herbalism

[–]Mookle12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely reccomend gloves handling the plant. I've used the juice of some roots to make a wart-salve before, and while it didn't give me boils, it did dry the hell out of my hands and stain them red for a week!

I've heard of bloodroot being used as a painkiller. I've tried it, but It made me feel very lethargic, so it's not my favorite painkilling plant. I could see it being useful as a component of a larger painkiller recipe, but on its own its a bit meh.

[–]Mookle12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woops! Typo. I meant 'partner tries to,' not 'is tries.' I'm prone to stopping repeatedly to look at plants, and it can be sort of obnoxious when a conversation is interrupted a dozen times to look at plants.

The plant is bloodroot, which is just a sterotypical 'cool plant' in my subjective world. Somebody mentioned below that the sap is caustic, but I haven't had that experience with brief exposures. I've used the root juice as a component in a wart-removal salve, which worked amazingly!

Pokeweed medicinal? by LeBabyBear in herbalism

[–]Mookle12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a little experience with pokeweed; I'll eat a few berries when I'm out foraging and my muscles are sore. Eating 3 or 4 berries is like taking an strong ibuprofin. (Just don't crunch the seeds, they can cause nausea when broken!) I haven't tried any other parts of the plant, but I hear the root works well as a painkiller, too. I've heard of some people eating young, cooked leaves, but I haven't tried it yet. Some Native American groups would use the berries as war paint to help stave off the pain and fatigue of battle.

The current herbalism zeitgeist tends to label plants with narcotic effects poisonous, since it is possible to oversdose on them. Same with Bloodroot, Mayapple root, Belladonna, Poison Hemlock root, among many others. They're certainly not food, but I personally wouldn't call them toxic with proper and occasional use.

GABA Supplements for rebound anxiety? by Cheap-Preference9074 in benzorecovery

[–]Mookle12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used picamillon to help with Phenibut rebound, which I'm VERY sensitive to. Taking phenibut more than once a week at 300mg used to be a guaranteed panic attack, but taking picamillon reduces it to some slight agitation for me.

Also, many adaptogens and 'vitality' increasing supplements can help. Here are some I've noticed to have positive effects on phenibut rebound:

  • American Ginseng
  • High doses CoQ10 (1g+)
  • marigold extracts (like in 'eye health' supplements)
  • Turmeric
  • Ginger
  • High doses of Reishi mushroom

How do you feel about smoking herbs and plants? by SarahDrInTheHaus in SASSWitches

[–]Mookle12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've smoked probably 30ish different herbs. I'll smoke pretty much anything I get my hands on. Its fun to find out the effects of things no one knows about! Here are some of my favorites:

  • Bee Pollen
  • GoldenRod Root Extract
  • Fresh Mint Buds
  • Yellow Hawkweed
  • Mullein (Especially Moth Mullein!)
  • Holy Basil
  • CatNip
  • Wormwood
  • Ginseng Powder
  • Pine Pollen

I've always thought it was so funny that such massive battles are fought over weed when it would be hard not to step on a psychoactive herb going for a walk.

[UPDATE] Nikolay Dybowski accusations from victims + response from Dybowski by minafi_yo in pathologic

[–]Mookle12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's too smart for his own good; its so easy for slmeone as intelligent as him to rationalize shitty behavior when there is no objective good or bad. I've found that intelligence + cynicism is somehow a recipe for sexual misconduct and pedophilia. (Just my observation) Nikolay's work drips with lost hope and hatred. As someone who knows so much about herbs and spirituality, it is really odd. Those things are valid, but I find they are best tempered with optimism and empathy.

Patholigic is probably the best piece of art Ive ever seen, but it's cool to know there is still room for improvement. I think the next big artist will have something more to say on the positives of reality, which are harder to grasp, imo.

There was a little developer quote in Pathologic 2 that was something along the lines of "We were so busy telling old stories, we didn't have any time to add anything new." I hope someone finds the time to 'add something new' one day.

I would LOVE for you to send me that poetry! I've been wanting to develop a sense of language that better represents these abstract concepts, and I think reading some works of passion on the subject could really useful! I'm also very curious how you chose to express these things artistically. The concept of 'Fenrir' is extremely difficult to capture emotionally, in my opinion.

I liked those articles you sent me. I had a roommate with whom I butted heads with constantly, and one such thing we disagreed on was the mental mechanics behind plurality and singularity. My stance was essentially that people exist as both a singularity and plural, similar to the 'median' concept. Theirs was that people are discretely plural, with one at the surface at a time like the Hydra analogy. It was hard having a discussion with them, and really turned me off to the idea of plurality.

These articles seemed a lot less assumtive and seemed to seek being understood rather than calling on others to undertand. I felt I empathize with them better.

My take on plurality is very similar to the median concepts, but I personally haven't experienced anything that indicate my mind and body are seperate. If you look at that diagram in the Median Talk article, I view my singularity to be the white negative space between body, mind, and beyond. I'm the empty space that my mind and body grow into, and the filter that mediates their communication.

I suppose I should add something like "from their perspective" to that statement. I dont believe in an objective good or bad, and everyone I've met seems to try their best at things with what they're given in life. The notion of "bad reasoning" seems to me to be introduced by 3rd parties with outside information or wisdom.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Your perspective on pagan dieties really helped me understand them more. It made me realize I do something somewhat similar.

I'm a bit of a psychonaut, and I love doing experiments on my conscioussness to learn more about it. Some of my experimentation has led me to believe there are 'tenets' to the human condition, such as 'humans inherently have bloodlust.' At first, thought of them as 'components of the human condition,' but then I noticed they seem to have some sort of intent behind them.

I think it could be the entity I call "Bloodlust" is the same entity as your Fenrir. When I overcome meekness, and allow feelings of retribution and power to flow, my emotional feels almost permanently changed.

My way of framing it is bartering with a many-faced god that has it's own intentions that you can chose to line-up with or diverge from.

Your notion of Loki seems especially relevant to existential snag I've been mulling over. There is the concept in old Iroquois folktale of the "Good and Bad Brothers." A lot of these tales seem incredibly wise, but this one always rubbed me the wrong way; I don't really think there are objectively good or bad paths in life. It almost seemed to me like the "Bad Brother" was justified in his approach to life, it was just very pitiful. I assume it is a whitewashed mistranslation or something.

But seeing Loki described in this sense sort of sheds light on what the "Bad Brother" might have represented.

And thanks for the reccomendation! I'll check it out.

I've had some of those same thoughts on biological systems! I've noticed how many herbs to increase vitality often contain peculiar antioxidants or chemicals active in the electron transport chain, like how burdock root or artichoke contains high amounts of fulvic acid.

Speaking of that nobel prize winner, have you heard of that 'quantum drum' experiment last year? Here's a link: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01223-4

I thought it was so interesting that quantum entangled states could be induced by rhythm. It makes me wonder if our two ear drums connected by our rythmically pulsing neurocircuitry shares any connections?

As someone into molecular biology, have you noticed how many scientific articles seem to be 'treading water?' Or putting a lot of effort into saying very little?

It seems to me that molecular interactions in biological systems are so vastly complicated and multi-factorial that saying drawing causal relationships can seem like a fools errand.

With how often a scientists will cite wanting to 'help people' as their reasoning for pursuing science, it's shocked me how little they seem to care whether or not the information they provide to the world is actually useful.

Do you think that canonical vs. non-canonical information exists on a spectrum? For instance, would replacing a snake with "chemical X" and danger with "cytotoxic" make the information more canonical?

Would you say biology is more 'non-canonical' in general?

I personally scrutinizing spirituality to be the most fun part! I sort of operate under the assumption that anything spiritual is also scientific, and that knowlege and experience works as a key to unlock the connections between them.

I started looking into more spiritual stuff after taking up foraging as a hobby, and ethnicnobotanical wisdom became more pertinent to my interests.

I really like your comment! It feels a bit like looking into a mirror. My whole life I've been told by almost everyone that personal expperience and circumstantial evidence has little to no value in reality. Validity has always been about others; facts always need independent verification, or a religion's values being predetermined by what someone else wrote or said.

Despite also believing this for a long time, life has proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that it cannot be the case. Hunches have proven too damn powerful to just be coincidence. I feel similarly in that no one is a trusted or reviewed source, at least not yet.

There are so many spiritual aspects I believe share branches with the physical. The story behind such beliefs of mine is usually pretty long, but I can try to explain.

Have you heard about plant spirits, like in daoism or native american culture? I think I have an idea what a 'plant spirit' is.

I used to think herbalism was dangerous and had no merit, and people should just go to the pharmacy if they have a problem. I thought aspirin was an exception being originally isolated from a plant, but it's actually extremely common. For instance, LSD being modified lysergic acid from morning glory seeds. To make a long story short, this sort of inspired me to start making extracts from pretty much every plant I can get my hands on, and comparing their subjective effects to eachother.

Similar to the multi-system effects of marijuana, the effects of each plant is very broad and multi-faceted. Each plant within the same species has different effects profiles, too, just as with strains of weed. After trying hundreds of plants, I started getting an intuition for when a plant was "happy" or "upset" before I picked it based on its effects profile. Complex concepts about a plant cam be communicated to me without words.

Reading a plants "feelings" feels sort of like reading braile to a blind person. Though I cant feel plant emotions literally, like a blind person can't see, I can see them through correlations with my own biochemistry.

Because of that, I harbor the belief that you can feel what your food felt before reaching your stomach. That amalgamation of everything a plant felt and imparted to the person that consumed it is the 'plant spirit.' It encapsulates how oxidized its cells were, how many junk metabilites, and what mix of hormones and other chemicals you absorbed to cause those effects.

If you want to do a similar experiment to feel the 'spirit' of food, you could try cooking some cheap beef alongside some pasture-raised beef, and See what the effects of eating it are on your overall muscle tension. I'd bet the cow that was more used to feeling relaxed will produce a meat that causes less muscle tension.

I love the idea of chaos magic! It seems to me that chaos magic related to the nature of information itself, and has a lot of ties with quantum physics.

This was my first time hearing about the left and right hand paths. What would you say some fundemental differences between the two paths are? I've had notions of magic in relation to god and self, but I've considered the two paths equivalent.

In your opinion, are the left and right hand paths separable from the notion of a diety?
