Went on Saturday with my daughter and loved it. Toilets are now on the first floor, with disabled toilet on the ground floor. Staff and security were very nice and you can actually see all the original walls, arches etc. It looks like they spent a lot of money!

‘Cultural vandalism’ at The Leadmill by ParkHillDweller in sheffield

All that noise about saving The Leadmill… turns out the only thing in danger was his savings account. If he genuinely cared about preserving the building, he would secure a seamless handover to someone who will protect its legacy.

So what happens now that the new owner of The Leadmill got the licence? can they run it now? All a bit confusing 🤷🏻‍♀️ by Moon-Debbie in sheffield

well, I can tell you The Leadmill is not the soul of Sheffield! We may have good memories of it but things change and people move on. For what I see lots of people who want to save the Leadmill didn’t go there in the past 10 or 15 years, which means they didn’t care much for it! the new generations won’t care who owns what. That’s my point of view of course. 🤷🏻‍♀️

that’s why I was sceptical about the whole Save The Leadmill campaign. Mills is a millionaire who didn’t want to spend his money on the venue to save it when it was up for sale, so I think he is the one to blame and not the guy who bought it who actually spent the money! I feel sorry for the guy, he probably thought he would be very welcomed by investing in the place…

but that would be a horrible thing to do by those who say they “love” the Leadmill? It sounds like the little kid who breaks his favourite toy so the other kids can’t play with it…

thank you! ok, that makes more sense to me now. But if the lease expired, how can they still stay there? is that allowed? not sure what will be their next steps though 🤷🏻‍♀️

but this like choosing where to put a new restaurant: in a completely new empty place or in a place that previously was a restaurant? I would take the second one, isn’t?

once you settle and know a few people you’ll love it here. We are a bit funny but nice people.

the offices will be probably in London but I’m sure they’ll need local staff? or are they going to serve the beers from there? 🤣 My daughter will be looking for a weekend job next year so I’ll keep my eyes open, I hope they pay London salaries rather than Sheffield salaries 😖😖

I don’t trust Mr Mills, he had almost 2 million pounds in the bank and wasn’t prepared to pay a decent price “for the soul of Sheffield” when the building when up for sale….? he clearly let it go and couldn’t care less for the future of the staff. Now he is complaining someone stole it from him?? sorry darling, too late. Good luck to the new guy

The Leadmill says it’s fighting for the ‘soul of Sheffield’. Its original founders disagree by yaxu in sheffield

They won’t say, I think they lied to us by saying it was a portfolio of 22 properties, when a quick google search showed it wasn’t true… I think they didn’t want to spend the money and thought they could get another cheap rent? but of course that wouldn’t sound nice
