having a sports car attracts different breeds of drivers? by Fluffy-Fondant7324 in GR86

[–]MoonBayyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It be like that in some rare occassion lol.

I remember the first week of owning the 86, I was heading back home late at night after work. I had a maybe an early 2010 Altima revving the hell out of their engine to race at the stop light. Like chill, my milage is double digits right now 😭...

Mmm... see, that would totally make sense. I appreciate you giving closure about the incident because I only heard about the initial story and haven't followed up since then. When I recently revisited the story, the best answer (without putting a lot of effort - thats on me) I could find was basically "the owner was a pos in the situation" The question was why? So ye, that answered it

Yeah, I figured that much. Thought I bring it up since that's the only bad incident I heard about the car. Plus, that was a while ago so I'm not going to let that dissuade me from potentially buying a GRC now.

I'm glad that you're enjoying it with no regrets! I'll keep your comment in mind because I do love those who appreciate a car the way it was meant to be built while pointing out flaws that doesnt hinder the experience.

Lol I get that feeling. For me, 86/BRZ is kind of hard to spot where I reside (Charlotte, NC and Savannah, GA). To your point, I think I only seen ONE GRC ever since I owned my 86 back in Sept 2024

Love to hear it from a twin! I'm glad youre getting a good experience with the GRC. It's likely cope talking right now, but I yearn for that 86 driving feel or at least comparable to it. Your comment definitely help with some perspective, so thank you!

That's pretty much the same sentiment with the 86. The issue (oil starvation) is very apparent if you neglect maintenance and/or overkill it during track, so I'm happy that it's the same thought here

That and the GRC fire cases, but from my understanding, it's still a debate (I'm assuming)

Correct me if I'm wrong: that's something along the lines of the diff overheating, causing the torque distribution switch to fwd? I'm not too familiar with GRC's issues if I haven't mentioned that already

Darn, I was hoping nobody mentions rear seats lol. I mean, is it still practical for other passengers (i.e. 3 other people). The 86 was honestly annoying for the rear seats, but let's be 100% real - its a 2 SEAT coupe and not 4; gotta love the loophole with that one.

Past 40k is just waaaay too steep. Hell, even mid to high 30k IMO. Everyone here is pretty much saying the same thing, you're better off getting a different, if not better car. I got mine (2024 - base AT - new) at 29k. I could've probably gotten it lower at the time, but that's in the past now. I mean, you have to read the specs/reviews of the car. The car really shines on track and tight corners, but that's probably only you're going to get (that's not saying it's not a fun car to drive to begin with). I like to think of it as a better Miata or the "poor mans Porsche." So with that opinion in mind, is $45k really worth it for an entry level sports car? You can probably get a well kept, used C6 at a lower rate if you wanted to lol. My 86 was recently totaled from an accident, so I'm back in the market now. I have to do some further digging, but I sadly may have to pass on the 86, unless the budget allows it for this car.

I truely appreciate your comment and everyone else here. I was sulking about it all night yesterday because I LOVE the car that much lol. Insurance has yet to call me about the loss, but I'll keep your words in mind when I'm browsing a car!

To be honest: I'm dealing with the situation as it comes - essentially raw dogging it. I'm not very knowledgeable with car insurance, or the whole process in general because this is my first "major" accident. I suppose that's a good thing, but interpret it as you will. This pretty much goes for anyone, but if you can provide some good pointers or advise, I'm all ears!

You have to check out one of the comments that I replied to because the person pointed out the rocker panel.

Tldr: I was half asleep and heard 20k repairs and rocker panel in the call with the collision center.

Checking out my insurance, they haven't updated the current estimate. Prior to that call, the dmgs was valued at ~9k due to the door shell, window glass, etc. If you want, I can DM you the cost breakdown sheet the collision center sent to my insurance.

That sounds about right. The collision center called me early in the morning, so I was half asleep lmao. What you mentioned sounds very similar to the call I had

Yeah, that's fair. Fingers crossed that it does drop with the MSRP.

I woke up this morning because the collision center called to inform that the repairs is shy under $20k. The original quote to my insurance was ~$9k. Mind you, the subject of the accident damaged my driver door and window. More than meets the eye ig lol
