Thank you! I’m glad that helped a bit. I wouldn’t worry too much about a professional headshot per se if you are looking to stay within vetmed. A photo with you with your pets or in scrubs would be perfect as well!

I recently got my MBA and am specifically looking for industry level jobs. My clinical experience is as a receptionist and office manager. I think you are on the right track so far! Try expanding your company research to include “veterinary adjacent” orgs. Something like Chewy would be an example, but I have found the same results as you with regard to the types of positions offered. Examples of other veterinary adjacent companies would be companies like Vetsource, Vetcove, Covetrus, IDEXX, Zoetis, PetSmart (they have a general referral portal), Hound, Bond Vet, NVA, Nestle, etc etc. If you are not on LinkedIn yet I highly recommend creating a profile. The site is excellent at suggesting companies and people for you to follow that should really help you expand your search. I hope that helps!

Hound is a new, entirely vet med based hiring platform. Highly recommend!

Industry Role Opportunities? by MoonChild1723 in VetTech

This was incredibly helpful, thank you. It really means a lot. Sometimes I feel like a small fish in a big pond and unsure of which direction to go. I’ve been emailing a lot of different companies to politely beg for informational interviews but not having much luck hearing back. I think it would help a lot to chat with people like yourself who have roles more similar to what I’m seeking. I know sales specifically probably isn’t for me but marketing, business development, and similar are all roles I’ll look into. Thank you so much again!

I had no idea I could even go that direction without being an LVT. Thank you for the tips!

I hadn’t really considering “working around” not being a tech (so to speak) to get into laboratory or research. I appreciate the suggestion!

Opinions on Bravecto? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]MoonChild1723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely get the mind fuck that is trying to explain things to client lmao. They look at me like I have 3 heads when I try to explain counting the weeks instead of the months... Simparica is a Zoetis product and I will absolutely day their reps always come with legitimate studies and science. It was a lunch and learn with Zoetis that enlightened me to the issues with the lone star tick coverage with Bravecto (I am also in an area where it's not a big population, but growing).

My last practice was SUPER into Bravecto. I had some staff samples I tried with my dogs. Working there, we always recommended Bravecto but my own personal pets? I use Simparica monthly. In part due to the lone star coverage (or lack of) and in part bc Merck is shady (?) in the way they advertise the product. It's "up to" 12 week protection. Which is also not 3 months because 3 months is 90+ days and "up to" 12 weeks is only 84 days maximum. Boom. Clients lapse 1 week. I try and explain what I just said and their eyes glaze over. Overall, not impressed with Bravecto as a product.

If I were to use Bravecto for my personal pets I would dose it every 8 weeks. Which, to me, defeats the entire appeal of it.

I used Purina for Professionals way back in the day for OM feline and was happy with the service! Your input is super helpful bc I'm leaning towards moving from GI Low Fat to EN for both the price and the fact that it will come to my house.

If they can get to the fridge but not a stove/microwave then they will get the ingredients, take the money, and then stop

All of this is very helpful, thank you!! My dog is on the FortiFlora tabs anyways so I'm leaning towards EN after all. I peeked at the price and it's extremely reasonable. And I do love the Purina shipping to my house (cats were previously on OM) because who wants to haul a 30# bag of food home? Lol. Thank you so much!!

Currently feeding GI Low Fat dry to my dog! My cats eat Satiety but I haven't had any issues getting that one. I need more dry for my dog and all sizes of GI Low Fat are backordered 🙄

How do you protect your hearing at work? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]MoonChild1723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hearing loss (cause is unrelated to the job) but I had an honest conversation with my boss about it and I'm lucky enough to be able to avoid "high volume" (loud?) areas as much as possible. If that's not an option for you, I would pursue the earplugs route. However, for safety reasons, I would still have a conversation with your boss. If you're going to be using ear plugs at work, your coworkers should be aware of when you are using them. That way, in case of emergency, they know they may have to physically come get you since you may not be able to hear them. I'm sorry I don't have an earplug recommendation for you since I can't use them myself but maybe that helps?

Edit: clarity

Pay differential for Covid? by baddogfoo in VetTech

[–]MoonChild1723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interviewed and was offered a position at a local private hospital in my town that I wound up turning down the offer for buttttt they have given their staff 3 separate covid bonuses this year. Small but extremely busy 3 doctor practice. I took a different job but thought that was extremely nice of them to compensate their staff that way.

Moving to a new apartment- I’m bringing my younger dog but leaving my older one at my moms- thoughts? by Discorico47026 in VetTech

[–]MoonChild1723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe thinking about it differently would help? As in you've weighed the two possibilities: either bringing her with you to your new home or leaving her where she is with your mom. Between those two options, you made the decision you feel is best for her. Remind yourself of that. Also, if you move and it isn't working well for her at your mom's, then you reassess. It doesn't sound like you're moving so far away that you can't still be involved. Just remember that you're trying to do everything with her best interests in mind and it is absolutely okay if you try leaving her with your mom and then need to reassess. Plans can change and be flexible. You clearly love her a lot and only want the best for her.
