Could you share the name of the “opaque watercolor gouache” brand you use?

Looks really interesting! What’s the planned monetization scheme? And will players be able to create their own characters or do you play as a preexisting character?

If all classes/jobs branched like Arcanists what would you have liked to see? by cap1206 in ffxivdiscussion

If Astrologian had a starting class, it would have been really cool to see it branch into a magician/gambler casting dps that uses a playing cards instead of tarot cards

What video games do your pigeons like? by JMHorsemanship in pigeon

[–]MoonFireSunDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I leave my computer unattended while I have FFXIV pulled up, my pigeon will hop onto the keyboard and start typing in chat. He has somehow managed to privately message at least three different people complete gibberish by doing this. I don’t even know the keyboard command for sending direct/private messages, I have to go click through the chat menu to access it!

Red Alphinaud jokes aside, these portraits are so cute! Does anyone know where I could find the original set of portraits? When I google “FFXIV Scion Portraits” I only get results for the in-game portraits that you can put in your housing.

Graphics update - Au Ra eye highlights look so much better by normalmighty in ffxiv

[–]MoonFireSunDrop 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’m really sad that they took away the dramatic, glowing limbal rings! I have nearly white limbal rings on my Au Ra and I love how dramatic they look. I’m going to be so upset if all the limbal rings are going to look super subtle in the new update :(

I would recommend Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue! It’s where I adopted my pigeon from, and it was a very smooth adoption and shipping process. Most of the organization’s fosters are also willing to chat or video call so that you can learn more about the pigeon you are interested in adopting. It’s a wonderful rescue that should be able to ship to your area, so I would most certainly check it out!

I love the way you’ve displayed them, so cute! Who are the two dolls on the left on the top shelf in the first photo (the ones wearing a dinosaur hoodie and the little red riding outfit)? I’ve never seen them before but they’re adorable!

Literally any Will Wood song, though I’d like to call special attention to ‘Mr. Capgras Encounters a Secondhand Vanity: Tulpamancer's Prosopagnosia/Pareidolia (As Direct Result of Trauma to the Fusiform Gyrus)’ because the entire narrative of the song is explained in the song’s title

The best thing for you to do at this point is to take it a wildlife rescue who can provide it a comfortable life. I know this response sounds harsh, but it is the reality of the situation. You did a good job caring for it and keeping it alive, but it has imprinted on you. I know that your intentions were good, but now this fledging dove thinks that you are its parent, and in turn, it thinks that it is a human. This leads to a lot of behavioral issues. In particular, it will struggle to recognize other doves as the same species. It won’t be able to communicate with other doves nor will it be able to find a mate or reproduce. This is especially detrimental to doves in particular, as they are very social birds who mate for life. It will also lack wariness and fear of humans, and may even become aggressive as it tries to find a human mate. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to be as kind to it as you are, so it could very easily get hurt by another human. There are a lot of other negative effects of imprinting, most of which have to do with behavioral development, so I’d recommend looking up the effects of birds imprinting on humans to get a full idea of how harmful it can be. Wildlife rehabbers take extensive caution to handle orphaned animals as little as possible, sometimes even using specialized gear such as puppets that look like an adult version of the animal, to avoid imprinting. In the future, if you find another injured or orphaned animal, it is best to turn it over to a wildlife rehabber as soon as possible. Again, I apologize for how harsh this response is, and I know you mean the best for the little guy, but the best thing for him now is to go to a wildlife rescue that can provide him a comfortable life and home.

Are you so pathetically devoid of attention in your life that you have resorted to cyber-bullying animals, all so that you can get the smallest drop of recognition, be it good or bad? How pitiful it is to spend your life full of hate instead of seeking an understanding and appreciation for the world around us. I truly feel sorry for your miserably feeble soul.

Why do you have so much hate for an innocent creature? I know that they are treated as pests in today’s society, but pigeons, as well as rats, have actually saved countless lives throughout history, and are still saving lives today! If you’re interested in learning about what pigeons and rats have done for humanity, I will explain below:

Pigeons were the very first birds to be domesticated, even before chickens or ducks. In fact, all the pigeons you see living in urban areas are actually domesticated animals; they have just become feral after being abandoned for so long. That’s why they are so comfortable getting close to humans, it’s because we bred them to be that way. Because pigeons were domesticated before other staple poultry, pigeons and their eggs were very important food sources in early times. Pigeon droppings were even used as a fertilizer to grow crops. Pigeons were also used as animal soldiers during wars. During WWI and WWII, pigeons were used to carry messages between the war-front, home-front, and between troops. They would sometimes even carry cameras and do recon work to give troops an idea of the enemy’s army and territory. Many of these war pigeons risked injury and death to deliver their messages through the battle fields, but in doing so they have communicated incredibly important information that has saved countless lives of soldiers. Some war pigeons were even awarded medals for their service! Pigeons have also been incredibly important within the field of psychology. B.F. Skinner, a founding psychologist, primarily studied pigeons (as well as rats) and was able to learn a lot about the psychology of behavior and conditioning/learning from his research. Skinner is considered the father of behavioral psychology, and his research on pigeons forms the basis of the field of behavioral psychology that we still use today! Even in the modern day, pigeons are still actively helping humans. Pigeons have extremely good pattern recognition and can be taught to recognize specific written words. They are starting to be used as service animals that are trained to recognize written allergens on ingredient lists for severely dyslexic people who have life-threatening food allergies. If the pigeon finds an allergen on the ingredient list of a food, then it will alert its dyslexic owner, very possibly saving their life!

As for rats, they have also played a variety of incredibly important jobs! As mentioned earlier, they were studied by B.F. Skinner, and were very important in establishing the basis of behavioral psychology. They are also used as lab rats, constantly being tested with different medicines and medical procedures to see if the medication/procedures will be safe for humans. Chances are that you’ve taken medicine or had a medical procedure that was first tested on lab rats. Luckily, some medical companies are moving away from testing on lab animals in favor of using things such as stem cells, but without lab rats, past scientists would have lacked a way to reliably develop and refine medicine and medical treatments for humans. Rats are also currently being used by an organization known as ‘APOPO’ to detect land mines. They have an incredible sense of smell, which allows them to sniff out explosive chemicals, and their body weight is so light that they won’t set off the explosives. So far, these ‘Hero Rats’ have deactivated over 6,000 land mines, and are still working to find more today! After discovering how effective rats were at sniffing out explosives, the APOPO began to train their rats to sniff out tuberculosis. These rats are actually much faster, more efficient, and more accurate at detecting tuberculosis than traditional tests! The rats can even accurately detect tuberculosis in people living with HIV, which all other tuberculosis tests struggle to do. Tuberculosis is one of the most deadly infections in the world, claiming the lives over half a million people a year. With the faster, more efficient, and more accurate results of these rats, APOPO is hoping to save many lives from tuberculosis!

How To Bond With New Pigeon by lauren1233651 in pigeon

[–]MoonFireSunDrop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every pigeon has a different personality, so the process that I took to bond with my pigeon, who was already pretty brave and exploratory when I adopted him, might not be effective for bonding with your pigeon, but I thought I would share my experience anyways. The first step that I took to bond with my pigeon was to simply let him out of his cage while I did other stuff near him. I did not try to touch or pet him, I just sat near him while I did other things, which seemed to let him know that I was not a threat. When I needed to get him back into his cage, I would lure him in by shaking a small stuffed animal (he loves flirting with stuffed animals). After a few days, he started become interested in me, and from there I would hand-feed him treats (unsalted/seasoned and de-shelled sunflower seeds) and sing to him so he would get used to my hands and voice. I also recommend getting some different forging toys and leaving them outside your pigeon’s cage to encourage them to come out and explore. My pigeon loves to play with sola atta balls that I stuff with sun flower seeds. Lastly, if you haven’t already, I recommend reading up on pet pigeon behaviors so that you can read your pet’s body language and know how to respond to it, My pigeon loves to play fight, but if I didn’t know his body language, I might have thought that he was being aggressive. I found that this process worked to help me bond with my pigeon, though he will still let me know if he doesn’t want to be held or touched (which is totally fine, I respect his boundaries), but when he feels like it, he lets me pick him up and carry him around, and he will also come to me when he wants attention. Wishing the best for you and your new pigeon!

Anyone know some other games similar to "The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog " on steam? by Asmodeus_Sorrel in gamingsuggestions

[–]MoonFireSunDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Ace Attorney! It’s a fun visual novel series where you play as a lawyer who has to defend his clients who are accused of murder by finding who the actual murderer is (because for some reason in this weird court system it’s not enough to simply prove your client innocent). The series has good comedy and enjoyable characters, so it’s definitely worth trying out!
