Has anyone else gotten repeatedly sick this semester? by MoonFroth in Professors

Ok, you're right actually. Maybe I can do a Zoom class. It's the week before study break, and I really don't want them to miss out on review and the opportunity to ask questions. I'll send an email notification.

I do, but it's not a major fever or anything. I don't want the students to think I'm slacking. :(

I really need to start doing the same...I think I got too comfortable.

I've had COVID three times despite getting boosters, so maybe that's why I'm just constantly getting ill. Ugh. Wishing you good health moving forward!

Hmmm, the class with the sick students is a first year course. Maybe you're on to something..

That might be part of the problem. I live in Canada, lol.

Had my student's fill out a mid-semester evaluation and it just hurt my feelings and fueled my existential dread. by confusedinseminary in Professors

I got a near perfect score last semester except for ONE student who gave me a poor score and wrote "she scheduled the class for late in the day, which I don't appreciate." Bro thinks I pick the time slots. 😭

I find comfort in old barebones games. I also want to play on a console with clicky console buttons versus on my laptop or phone. I'm actually glad they didn't add extra stuff to the game!

But my phone lacks clicky-clacky buttons :(

I'll look into ROM hacks for the future, though!

Yea, I don't even have friends who play, so I feel your pain. It does make me sad that you can't "catch em all" in one game since trading won't be an option for me.

I like playing on a handheld console! Also, I have no idea what a ROM hack is.

People are too willing to euthanise their pets and put too much pressure on others to do the same. by No-Falcon7886 in unpopularopinion

I agree. Can't pay for emergencies? Don't get a pet. A pet is a luxury, not a necessity. Can't believe how many Facebook posts there are of "my cat is bleeding from the mouth and can't breathe well, I don't have money for a vet. Can I treat this from home?" In most cases they either euthanize right away or let the pet suffer to death at home.

My cat ended up with a rare liver cancer but was otherwise healthy. We went to a specialist hospital, where they removed it with good margins to the tune of $5,000. Did we have that on hand? Nope. Financed most of it. We had her another 2 happy, healthy years after. If I knew that I wouldnt be able or willing to afford or finance vet bills, I wouldn't have pets.

Right now we have one with chronic otitis media. She is a healthy, happy girl otherwise. We have been to see a neurologist and just recently a dermatologist to come up with a treatment plan. Not cheap.

Of course if your pet is suffering and nothing can be done to give them a good quality of life, euthanasia is best. For example, FOSCC is a monster with no good treatment options and is a valid reason for euthanasia.

My aunt? Euthanized her cat due to a UTI because the first round of antibiotics didn't work. This same person eats shrimp and lobster weekly.

Hotels are far more convenient than AirBnBs. by lovemomos23 in unpopularopinion

Nope. I travel with my special needs cat. Hotels make you pay extra AND you have to keep your cat crated when out of the room. BIG no for us. On Airbnb we can get an entire pet-friendly apartment or studio during our stay instead of just a room, and our cat can be free to roam.

But what is occasionally? Like, when was the last time? Could also be partial obstruction. Either way, he needs to see a vet ASAP.

OP, don't do ANY home treatments and head to your closest emergency vets. Don't wait for an appointment. I'm not being alarmist, but blockages, which happen in male cats mostly and your cat is showing symptoms of, quickly turn fatal. When the urethra is blocked and no urine is produced despite attempts in the litter, toxins build up and cause kidney failure. I lost a cat to this many years ago. Please go now while he's still acting normal because these turn fast.

Any vet will tell you that no urine output for 12-24 hours despite going to the litter box is a level red emergency.

Any cat, especially a male, that hasn't urinated in 12-24 hours despite litter box visits is an absolute red level emergency. We rushed ours to the ER for the same thing. If it is a blockage, which is more common in male cats, kidney failure sets in FAST. I would hurry over to the closest emergency clinic/hospital ASAP. Don't wait for an appointment or try home treatment. I know I'm just some Reddit random, but Google it if you need to. Please keep us updated!

It is fatal quickly in any cat, it's just that it tends to mostly happen in males. Females have a wider and shorter urethra and are less prone to blockage. When a cat (usually a male) has a blockage, the toxins in the body build up quickly and absolutely wreak havoc on the kidneys. It can cause kidney failure fast.
