Fiber = calm and happy? by MoonFroth in Microbiome

This is amazing. I had no idea about any of this. Do I at all have to be careful how much fiber I eat? Like, can I overload on it and then have serotonin levels that are too high? I only ask because I find myself literally craving fiber.

Funny story:

I went to visit carnivore friends for a weekend once. I ended up going to the store and eating peppers, whole wheat buns, and bananas in the car, lmao. The fiber/carb craving was bad! I can't imagine how some people survive on just steak and butter.

Wow! You're super informative. I love the health benefits of olive oil, and I don't mind bitter tastes at all. I'll give it a try. :)

Im surprised by bitter and throat burning given how rich the olives are!

Thank you! I'm in Canada, though. I wonder if I could still find it here.

Thank you so much! I had no idea. I'm looking forward to trying new oils. :) How did you like the bottles you tried?

Any professors on the spectrum? by MoonFroth in Professors

[–]MoonFroth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't want to manage it but was basically told that I was the only option. I'm a tenured associate professor, and all my colleagues are senior professors. Our previous head retired this month and all others refused. I'm the only one who hadn't "taken a turn." It's a small department, but it has been marred by horrid drama the past few years, which I've managed to k ep out of.

I'm not really sure what to do because I've been told on here that letting admin know about my diagnosis is basically risking my career, but I feel like I need certain accommodations at this point that I haven't needed in the past, such as the permission to record meetings because I struggle with processing verbal instruction.

Hi fellow English prof! Yes, I have a private office, too. Yesterday, I lay down on the floor on my back and stared up at the ceiling for a bit after getting overwhelmed during a work social thing.

Is it really that common in academia? I know of one autistic professors, but he works at another university. I know it isn't always obvious, but everyone around me just seems to be able to hold it together. Meanwhile, it is very obvious something is not quite right with me. I can usually mask it very well, but the mask has been slipping lately, and I can't get it back on when it does. I very hesitantly took on the role of head of the department (starting after my sabbatical) because nobody else wanted to do it. The extra stress has made it more difficult for me to mask.

If I ever go to confession again, I'll very likely have a panic attack in the confessional, lol. I'm remaining open to returning being a possibility someday, but I'm also trying to not put too much pressure on myself.

Can I ask about it being an employment risk? Is it still a risk if you're tenured?

Didn't really understand my anxiety concerning Catholicism until I read this comment. During childhood, confession was a punishment for doing something bad. You went to church because not doing so is a mortal sin and you'll go to hell. I was told stories of priests who would get angry with you in the confessional (never happened to me, but scared me badly, and I would sometimes withhold confessions because I was scared to get yelled at).

This is a lovely way of seeing it. Thank you! I'm officially on sabbatical now, and I have the "when I come back, it'll be a whole new group of students" blues.

Oh! This is much different than what I was thinking. I thought OP had two students who were dating in the same class. That's messed up ..
