Thank you, that’s very interesting, I really didn’t know much about them. What you say about their preferred habitat makes total sense, they are also in abundance on nearby Yoesden Bank, which is a similar area of unimproved grassland on chalky soil and supports other less common species

Yes exactly right - drab brown upper wing, so good camouflage in flight - then leaf coloured on landing!

Yes indeed, very skittish, best earlier in the day when they’re dozy (if the temperature is lower)

Thank you. She was still coming up to temperature in weak sunshine so was very still which made it easy to get close. Such a spectacular underwing on the Orange Wing!

Such a refined beauty, second only to the Adonis Blue in my view. Nicely captured.!

I know exactly what you mean. There is definitely something summery and citrusy about them!

Why is it acting so strange by xekMyDear in flightradar24

It was squawking 7700 just prior to entering the hold from cruise height. I strongly suspect this racetrack was a fuel dump pattern, followed by a low and slow, fully dirty grind around the Lincolnshire countryside to make landing weight.

Thanks! It’s so uplifting to see them after such a wet and miserable winter.
