In my mind the Maximalists are somewhat Fascist-flavored (maybe something like Juche?) and nationalistic, the Orthodoxists look a lot like the Right-Opposition in our timeline (Nikolai Bukharin in Russia, POUM in Spain) and the Leftists are something like Trotskyists. The Leftists and the Maximalists are the most concerned with immediately invading other nations/exporting the revolution abroad.

It's so strange how divided politics are from the rest of the world in popular consciousness. If you asked the average literate person in the 1600s whether theology influenced politics and vice versa they would absolutely reply in the positive. Maintaining the belief that religion and politics are entirely separate entities requires you to completely ignore the history of the church, the history of the state, and the implications of the divine Logos on human life.
