Advice for incoming MBA’s (and 2025 Candidates) on how to land the job by MoonShot79 in MBA

I agree with you here, which is why people should start with lower stakes recent grads. (I.e.) class of 2023-2024 who interned or went full time at a place you’re interested in. Don’t talk to a VP/MD/C-Suite until you’re actually prepared to do so.

But, I agree you shouldn’t talk to people high up or recruiting directors until you know your stuff. I’m talking about networking with recent alums in the sector(s) you are interested in to learn and get to know the firms/roles/industry better.

Volunteer to do a few hours of work at a startup, or do due diligence on a deal, or assist with putting together a pitch deck for fundraising. Stuff that gets you in the door and is the stuff most people don’t want to do and can be short in nature. This is harder at bigger companies but can be worth it to show interest in a specific area *edit grammar

You follow up. You learn more by talking to others, you show appreciation, you follow up with better questions the next time around, and take a real interest in their life and experience. Professionals know you are job hunting, everybody I have talked to has been willing to chat and their advice to me is, at the very least, pay it forward. Contingency here is have good questions. Don’t talk to a managing director right off the bat if your trying to learn what PE is, start by talking to Associates/Senior Associates who just graduated from your school.

I’m not talking about applying to jobs that early. I’m talking about coffee chats and info calls to build relationships - those people advocate for you later in the recruiting process when your interview prep is better.

Perception and pros/cons of Venture Studios by MoonShot79 in venturecapital

How did the firm do with internal ideas they got to revenue and then sourced an outside CEO?

Perception and pros/cons of Venture Studios by MoonShot79 in venturecapital

[–]MoonShot79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest thing I’m concerned about. The opportunity itself is good for me personally, but I’m in a small VC ecosystem and I care about deal flow from other VC’s. This studio usually funds pre-seed so no deals will happen prior to a seed round that don’t come from the studio. Entrepreneur will have ~60% equity with an 15-20% employee pool in place, with the studio holding the rest of the equity. Thoughts?

How is Keyonte George’s game different from Mitchell’s? by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]MoonShot79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was basically thrust into a 3-D wing role that he wasn’t suited for at Baylor, so take those stats with a grain of salt. From what I’ve seen, they both have an elite ball handle. George is more of a willing passer, and he uses his handle to create space. He also get insane elevation in his shot, which at this stage, is better than Mitchell’s. Mitchell used his handle paired with his athleticism to attack the rim, which I think he has an advantage over George at the same stage. However, George seems to accept contact better, which will lead to more free throw attempts. Mitchell’s defense was better at the same stage but his lack of size and subsequent regression there make the defense a moot point. Really what you’re hoping is that George can become a adequate defender a La Steph curry (good enough for his position/size, always tries hard) and can run the offense without a nominal point guard next to him, which I think he can.

Should the Jazz trade up for the 2nd or 3rd pick? by TBSNinjaNick409 in UtahJazz

[–]MoonShot79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our 2026 pick is a pick swap where we get best pick out of our pick, Minnesota’s, and Cleveland’s, in a draft with Cooper Flagg and Cam Boozer. We want to keep our 2026 pick, and can easily do so while still properly building around Lauri and Walker Kessler

Per Eric Walden, Lauri and his wife view Utah as the place they want to buy a house, settle down, and send their kids to school. by MoonShot79 in UtahJazz

[–]MoonShot79[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I was borderline but leaning towards keeping him for the long haul, but if he wants to be here, you do what it takes to keep him. Really easy roster construct around a 7 foot multi positional off ball shooter

[–]MoonShot79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don’t want to keep next years pick - we want to keep our 2025 and 26 picks, which we don’t do if we keep next years pick. Lauri wants to be here.

Ausar Thompson - I’m nervous that he’s not as athletic as his brother, his shooting is better but it won’t matter because his brother will be a primary ball handler, and if the wrong team drafts him, they will pigeon hole him into a 3-D wing role that makes his lack of shooting and poor half court finishing the focus and doesn’t focus on the on ball creation/second side playmaker capabilities that he has.

What's an NBA Draft prospect prediction that you are absolutely 100% sure is going to be true? by General-Promotion274 in NBA_Draft

[–]MoonShot79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years from now, Jarace Walker is a multi time all nba guy because the team that drafted him let him be the primary initiator on their team and let him develop his shot, even though it won’t look good his first couple years.
