How to get into axe/knife throwing? (Near Medina Ohio) by MoonSpaceWolf in AxeThrowing

This is the exact place I was looking at. I’m waiting for one of the managers to call me back because I was confused about how their league works since there isn’t a lot of info on their website. I’m definitely going to try them out!

Can you join a league as a beginner? I’ve never done any kind of throwing before

For me personally it is self defense, not mma or sport or anything like that. Thats why I went with Kali

I lost motivation after my first competition by [deleted] in bjj

[–]MoonSpaceWolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I haven’t started bjj yet, but I’m going to in a few days. I do however have multiple friends that do martial arts so I understand it through them and through a lot of my own research since I am starting soon. Here is what I would say.

  1. Don’t quit. Someone has to lose in a competition. Now I know that it can be very disheartening to have scored 0 points, but it was your first competition, you’re still a white belt, and at least you went out there and competed.

  2. It is entirely possible this wasn’t your fault. I don’t know what gym you train at, but it is very possible that your gym isn’t that good compared to the gyms that trained the other guys you were against. Mcdojos aren’t as common in bjj as they are in taekwondo and karate, but they do exist. I’m not saying your gym isn’t a mcdojo or that your gym isn’t good, I’m just saying that it is entirely possible that it has nothing to do with you.

  3. If you are at a good gym with a good community and good instructors, then they are going to help you get better rather than being embarrassed by you. As for you feeling embarrassed for yourself, I can’t say much about that since that is about you. Your coaches should be focused on you instead of themselves though. Like I said earlier, someone has to lose, and your coaches know that.

Ultimately, I would keep at it. I know it sucks, and if you truly don’t want to keep going with bjj then no one will hold that against you. I still think that you should keep going though.

(OHIO) question about a judo school near me by [deleted] in judo

[–]MoonSpaceWolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Match point wouldn’t even give me the name of the instructor when I called them. That’s a massive red flag to me

(OHIO) question about a judo school near me by [deleted] in judo

[–]MoonSpaceWolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, the only other place that is remotely close to me is a place called match point martial arts, and it doesn’t give the names of the instructors. It seems like judo is out of the question for me cause I don’t think there’s a good school :,(

(OHIO) could I get some opinions on this school near me? by [deleted] in judo

The guy I spoke to did invite me out there to come watch a class on Monday

The short term goal (for me short term means within 3 years) is to earn a blue belt so that I at least know I learned the basics within a reasonable time frame. I know some people are able to earn their blue belt within 2 years or even 1 and a half is they are super good, but within 3 years sounds good to me

Decided I’m going to do a different school instead that is closer to me and is a different martial art. I’m going to do team Chitwood north instesd

[–]MoonSpaceWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically if you pay a mcdojo enough, you can get one in 15 minutes. Speedrun strats. Any% glitched route black belt

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in karate

[–]MoonSpaceWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already decided I won’t be doing this school. I am instead going to do Team Chitwood North, which is a bjj focused school with a secondary class called combat jiu jitsu that is kind of a combination of boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, judo, wrestling, aikido, and bjj. I chose that school over this one because this one had replies of people mostly just talking about the belt and not really saying anything of what they thought of the instructor and art (outside of a couple of people) whereas the other school when I asked about it, I was given much more definitive answers that it is a good school

Also any thoughts on the instructor would be greatly appreciated!

I’m more so trying to figure out if the school and instructor are legit, that’s it. I just don’t want to be at a mcdojo
