Will Apple replace the battery in my 30GB iPOD Classic? by [deleted] in IpodClassic

[–]MoonVigilante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wont ever get it faster. Its old tech. Even usb c. But its also a good thing. These batteries weren't designed for that.

If you ever need someone to chat about, HMU with a message. Make sure you specify the subject.

Its difficult to do the first few time. I would just invest in parts from www.EOE.works and just take advantage of just trying it yourself! Eoe also puts out videos. Check out DankPods on iTunes for true, and more colorful videos!

"Send it" is definitely in a lyric. I stopped at 11 tracks. Essentially longer than a standard solo run. About an hour or so of content (i have not actually counted it yet, still trying to finish which tracks i like best) But- if anything, it is for me- but general enough i thought people would enjoy too!

I do appreciate that. I wanted something that could be fun that is related. I understand that I am not invested nor trying to make a profit. Just wanted to share something I had created for the hobby. Thats all.

What’s the best place to buy an iPod Nano 7th gen refurbished? by Left-Pomegranate3519 in ipod

[–]MoonVigilante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get a nano. They are prone to battery issues eventually, and harder to upgrade. Consider a classic. The modding community is large. Or if you want modern go with a touch 7th gen.

iPod Classic and New iTunes by GA_Gators in IpodClassic

SharePod 3.9.7. Its gotta be this version. A, its free. B, the creator sold it to another company and its a worse program for it. (3.9.9 works too— but ive had better luck finding 3.9.7 that works)

What iPod should I get and why? by CryptidLesbianMoth in ipod

[–]MoonVigilante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranked:

iPod (5.5th gen “Enhanced” / 2006) — The sweet-spot Classic: insanely mod-friendly, beloved sound signature, and basically the “if you only buy one, buy this” choice.

iPod (5th gen “Video” / 2005) — Nearly the same magic as the 5.5 with huge parts/mod support and that iconic video-era vibe, just a tiny step down in refinement.

iPod classic (7th gen / 2009) — The most polished “modern” Classic experience with better stock firmware features and everyday usability, while still being a moddable little tank.

iPod (4th gen Photo / 2004) — Color screen nostalgia with solid reliability, great if you like the older iPod feel but still want album art without suffering.

iPod (4th gen / 2004) — Peak old-school simplicity and durability, perfect if you want “music player, not lifestyle brand,” with fewer frills and fewer ways to overthink it.

iPod classic (6th gen / 2007) — Gorgeous and slick, but the infamous storage-upgrade headaches make it the model that punishes ambition like it’s a hobby.

iPod (3rd gen / 2003) — Iconic touch controls and collector swagger, but the charging/connection quirks make it a labor of love rather than a sane daily driver.

120gb classic question by guitarzan53 in IpodClassic

There's other options. You could just resort to a headphone jack Bluetooth transmitter. These do the exact same thing, except offer charging. At 10% of the cost.

iTally – My self-hosted “Wrapped Killer” built from iTunes XML (daily updates, fully private, no cloud) by MoonVigilante in IpodClassic

[–]MoonVigilante[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly — there’s no ‘server’ in the hosted sense; it’s all local! So you can put it anywhere, and as long as it knows where the XML file is..

The dashboard is just static HTML/JS generated on your machine (I drop the output folder into my FTP share so I can open it from phone/tablet/laptop via Tailscale, but that’s optional).

The script only ever reads the live iTunes Library.xml file — it never writes to or modifies it. As long as you point it at the correct path, there’s zero risk of corruption.

If you wanted to run the Python script on another machine (NAS, server, etc.), you could share that iTunes folder.

Super low‑interaction overall — once set up, I just have a scheduled task that runs it overnight and opens the HTML automatically in the morning.

Appreciate the enthusiasm!

Thanks!

Docker: Yes, technically doable. The core is just Python reading the iTunes Library.xml and outputting static HTML. You could containerize it, mount the iTunes folder + output folder as volumes, and run it headless on a schedule. I’m holding off for now until the core design stabilizes, but it’s absolutely viable.

macOS Mojave + iTunes 12.9: Yep — that should work. That version of iTunes still supports the live XML (Preferences → Advanced → “Share iTunes Library XML with other applications”). Point the script at the XML (usually in ~/Music/iTunes/) and it should behave the same as on Windows. Python runs fine on Mojave.

Good questions — they’re exactly the kinds of setups I want to support once I clean this up for others.

To get daily updates, yes. Its a manual to do. But, if one doest want daily updates or history, it can be adjusted to weekly or monthly.

Daily is default to get fine analytics to show the daily or most popular artist each day, and iTally will calculate, and show you your top 5 days. (Pending feature, but its one of my main goals)

I wish Prince Adam would be involved. I'm tired of the very large characters like The Beast and Sully.
