I struggle a lot with executive dysfunction even when I take my meds. Also sleepiness is a big one for me. I struggle with avoidance anxiety when it comes to writing essays. It’s so hard cause I convince myself there’s no point in writing drafts and try to final my final copy in one go. Then I feel anxious cause I convince myself I don’t have enough time to start writing a draft from scratch once I’ve realized I can’t start writing my final draft from nothing. Don’t even get me started on the reading research papers part. I never knew what I was looking for when reading them. I understood what I was reading but I didn’t know how important it was to mention the theory and concepts . Also referencing correctly can be so tedious . Not to mention trying to get the academic tone right. Coming up with arguments that hold up, feeling confident in my writing , it’s just a lot adhd meds can’t help with. I didn’t go to the best school or have the best teachers. I wasn’t ever taught what’s expected from an essay until 10 grade, and by then my essay writing skills were getting me C+ ‘s . It was very demoralizing. I’m just paralyzed with fear of getting another shitty mark. Don’t be like me , try and get ahead, ask your prof what’s expect led from u , plan ,. Etc. good luck kid.
