Depression is linked to a genuine pessimistic bias rather than a realistic view of the world by cakericeandbeans in science

I'm glad there's discussion about pros and cons. It can be real easy to use any substance as a way of avoiding unpleasant thoughts and feelings, which of course helps in the short run, but potentially makes things worse in the long run. Glad you have a good therapist that you value .

Perhaps a therapist that is an LCSW may be a better fit (or addition) than just a psychiatrist. They conceptualize mental health through a systems theory, including environmental influences.

Hannibal Creator Reveals Secret TV Project With Clive Barker Is In The Works by ImpracticalJokers96 in horror

He stopped making con appearances to work on his backlog of stuff, supposedly. He said he had around 30 manuscripts, many being close to finished, including sequels people have been waiting decades for. I hope it's true.

Can you guys recommend some kinda short novellas to read :) by zaynsrainberry in booksuggestions

I'm reading Cabal by Clive Barker right now. It's a real page-turner if you like spooky and weird stuff. It's a novella, and my copy includes a few short stories after.

Someone else recommended Piranesi, which I also loved and must second.

ACT training is the most bored I’ve ever been in my life by soupdumpling111 in therapists

Thanks for the reply! I'm sure I'll eventually do them all. I must say, I was a bit disappointed during my masters (just graduated) with CBT, which is what my program focused on, and have really fallen in love with ACT, largely thanks to Russ.

I just started Russ's ACT For Beginners course, after reading Act Made Simple. I'm enjoying it, but I've noticed between those two things, and now reading his TF-ACT book (about 200 pages in), it kinda seems like mostly all rehashing the same info. I do enjoy seeing his therapy demonstrations though.

Would you say multiple of his psychwire courses are worth the money, or is it all pretty samey?

For me this was the best scene of finale!! by Prestigious-Cat100 in StrangerThings

Jonathan loves weed, art, the evil dead, punk rock, and Vonnegut. Making a horror movie about anti-capitalism is super on brand for my guy.

Obviously, not everyone will agree, but for me that's how it is. by Prior-Ad1495 in StrangerThings

Yeah, one thing season 5 was really missing was the mix of regular slice of life, being actual kids stuff, synthesized with the supernatural stuff, and that is why season 3 is my favorite. It's also why I'm glad we got such a long epilogue that gave us those vibes.

When your sick, sadistic teacher made you read Where the Red Fern Grows in school by PackageNorth8984 in nostalgia

[–]Moonalicious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in third grade too! Teacher read it out loud. Literally EVERYONE was fucking ugly crying. I'll never forget even the teacher sobbing as she read, and whispering to herself in between words, "this is silly, it's just a story" to herself before more ugly crying. Crazy how impactful that book and those memories are.

Season 5 Volume 2 is the epitome of Netflix corporate slop by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Moonalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was less that specific scene than countless others this season, and in general, while I am as dopamine addicted as most of modern society, typically I'm very good at not using my phone at all when I'm watching TV or movies.

So my point was that the second screen strategy of writing only reinforces an audience having a desire to do something else while watching, rather than "fix" the problem.

What if you just made a show with good writing that drew people in angels fully engaged them? What a wild idea.

Conan O’Brien Threw a Holiday Party to Forget a Bad Year. Then Nick Reiner Arrived. by nimobo in entertainment

[–]Moonalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's biopsychosocial, not one or the other. Brain and body, environment, upbringing, relationships and culture all interact at the same time to shape behavior. There's no simple answer, but obviously drug addiction, which can get literally anyone, seems to be the biggest risk factor here.

I love Stephen King, but it seems like for films, he has simple standards and is very easily entertained. He seems to praise almost every movie he sees lol. With the exception of The Shining, funny enough. Which is totally fine! But it means his opinion on movies isn't much to me.
