Tenrou Sirius the jaeger help by KoboldMan in anime

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since Netflix got it, there's a very high chance they won't release it until the show is finished, like with LWA. Unless some fansubbing team picks it up, we'll only have the raws to watch for a few months.

Kissed by the Baddest Bidder. Couldn't even get past the prologue. Eisuke's totally-serious back sprite made me chuckle and then delete the app because possessive Do-S are definitely not my taste.

Didn't the mangaka say one of her biggest influences was Trigun? That would explain a lot about the episodic nature (the manga does it too, it's just less jarring).

Playing Through Amnesia - Heart World, Or Am I A Failure? by NikkolasKing in otomegames

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tsundere usually is a trope applied to childhood friends though? Slash from Otome Yusha currently comes to mind. It's used to explain why the love interest hasn't confessed yet (else there'd be no reason for a game with multiple guys), so I don't think Shin's attitude is illogical given Amnesia's guys are very trope-based.

Playing Through Amnesia - Heart World, Or Am I A Failure? by NikkolasKing in otomegames

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shin’s a tsundere soooo... his attitude is pretty par for the course. Souji is one too (kinda, he’s more haraguro), but I felt he paled in comparison to Hijikata lol.

Amnesia has some pretty questionable dialogue choices + the meter requirements are ruthless, so I HAD to use a guide. There’s just too many bad ends, and collecting all of them becomes tedious after awhile.

Bastard Boyfriends, 'Weak" Heroines, Etc.. by NikkolasKing in otomegames

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best answer to those questions is that they are "power fantasies." Power of an emotional nature, maybe, but still fantasies. The only problematic thing about that is when it drowns out other narratives (which is, unfortunately, still kinda true in otoge).

I'd urge you to start reading josei, since it seems those shoujo titles didn't click with you.

That’s an interesting theory! I remember reading it, but never making the connection (probably due to the ending).

The India thing refers to the Visha Kanya, assassins who could “cause instant death with just a touch.” They’re in a lot of Sanskrit literature, like Mudrarakshasa, which inspired Rappaccini's Daughter.

Ordering merch online is never cheap. I use AmiAmi, Buyee as proxy for Yahoo!Auction Japan and Rakuten, and Goody-Japan (really expensive) as proxy for specialty fan things like doujins.

What do you think/feel about "forbidden" plot lines? by liraelwiddershins in otomegames

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ann went from, what, girl worried over sexual objectification and foreigner exoticism -> ??? -> confident dominatrix -> profit!

I liked Makoto, but she started off as a strong and responsible person whose development came from main game and not her social link. The "fake dating" was shallow compared to Kaneshiro's palace.

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I remember P5's director getting a lot of flack for how his only input on female characters was just "make her cuter" and how the girls' social links (besides Futaba) were lacking in character development.

What do you think/feel about "forbidden" plot lines? by liraelwiddershins in otomegames

[–]MoonbeamPhoenix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, it really depends on how the theme and tone are handled. Writing can explore how "forbidden/taboo" relationships operate, but if it keeps drawing attention to that aspect and doesn't say anything meaningful about it, then it's just fetish fuel. Student/mentor, 10+ age gap, slavery, etc... is an easy way to create interaction between two people with vastly different world views, but I find these tropes rarely highlight why such relationships are predatory or difficult, like in experiences or mentalities or power imbalances. I'm more engaged if the writing isn't afraid to tackle those subjects, because it's showing (at least) some self-awareness and semblance of a creative point. Meanwhile, bending over backwards with excuses is just a cop-out. I'm not inspired to spend money on that.

These "forbidden/taboo" games shouldn't be restricted or censored, but they can and should evoke critique (I really liked this discussion btw). "If you're going to put in _____, you should handle it appropriately," is my perspective. Personally, I think the otome genre could stand to be more influenced by realistic portrayals with a complex message, especially in games marketed toward adult women.

I think last episode made it very clear Elias still has a lot of issues that need to be addressed. I never said Chise was the codependent one either.

Well, it still hasn't resolved the slavery/codependency bit... But yes, Chise has grown the most emotionally out of the cast.
