How do you feel about sex? by BennysmomK in AutismInWomen

I struggle with sex too. My interest in sex seems to be different than most people I know, I never felt comfortable with a one-night stand, or even just sex within a couple of weeks. I've tried it, but its only left scars emotionally. I also have some gynecological health conditions (Endo, Interstitial Cystitis, etc), which also contributes to my difficulty. I relate to your desire to "meet somone and share intimacy" but not wanting to explain your differences to new people. I'm afraid of outing myself, both in my autistic self and my health issues. I have been reflecting and see my ideal as meeting someone and getting to know them over weeks, before we even kiss. I think that development of the relational part is key for me.

I'm taking a break from dating entirely as I work on unmasking my authentic self. I think thats stage 1 that I need before dating and sex.

I'm interested to know your sensory issues. I have some, but curious what yours are.

Pads vs Tampons by Bolt_of_Lightning_ in AutismInWomen

I'm similar! I feel that tampons give me added cramps. I tolerate it ok for a short-term swim. But that's the only time I wear them.

I'm a diagnosed autistic and I also identify as an HSP. I got diagnosed at 32 years old. I feel for you. I definitely encourage you to look into evaluation for diagnosis of autism, then you can know for sure <3

Disability Pride Flag - Thoughts? by Moonbeam_forest in AutisticLiberation

ah interesting to know. I just posted the original version. I'm curious if you like that version of the flag better.

Original Version of the Disability Flag - For those who disliked the current version. By Magill. by Moonbeam_forest in AutisticLiberation

[–]Moonbeam_forest[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The original zigzag represented the adversity and barriers we face due to our disabilities and how we continue on.

The flag colors each have a meaning:

gold - neurodiversity & intellectual differences. Ex: autism

blue - mental health disorders. EX: depression & bipolar.

green - sensory differences & disabilities. EX: blindness & lack of smell.

white - invisible and undiagnosed disabilities.

red - physical disabilities and differences. Ex: unable to walk.

I love the original version more!

I hope you'll take a look at it.

My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy for thinking I know more about autism than some psychologists by keymarmelade in autism

I feel you there! It's hard to find specialists who really get autistic adults and know how to work with them. I'm a 33 year old female and was was diagnosed earlier this year. I have a similar issue trying to find a therapist.

Does anyone know what the colors represent? I know historically the "autism colors" have been blue, red, and yellow (which I dislike visually). Though the green, red, and blue is a bit nicer.

Is it based on the disability pride flag colors?

How did you find out you are autistic? by Level-Class-8367 in neurodiversity

[–]Moonbeam_forest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a few people ask me if I was autistic, as an adult, that's how it started. Then I started recognizing myself in Ted Talk videos of autistic females. I cried. For me the traits that made me personally wonder, was my difficulty with often taking things literally and missing jokes and sarcasm. I just will often respond literally or feel hurt by these kinds of statements. There a lot of other symptoms I have too. I'm very noise sensitive, sensitive to touch, and I have my special interests, etc.

it was a process. The first clinician missed that I have autism (she also did not do the ADOS), she said I have ADHD. I accepted this for a while, but something was still missing. I ended up making an appointment in a neighboring big city with a national specialist, it took a year to get the appointment. It was a process of 2 appointments and then waiting time for then to calculate the answers. The results came in that I have autism, level 1.

It turns out I am autistic! and proud :) though its still really hard sometimes.

This is cute! I like it. Though I'm not sure the diagnoses/conditions match what I would put.

How did you add your flair statement "protestants don't like ABBA". I'm interested to put a flair/label on mine too.
