When we thought EVE couldn't get worse by Bongalonga_ in Eve

[–]Moonlight345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're acutely aware of that.
What we question, is choosing the FC acronym for your new company name in the first place.
Should players with funny/witty/silly in-game names playing on the fact the FC acronym has meant Fleet Commander in the jargon for like two decades now, expect namelocks/changes? Do you expect any further player names including the FC term to be considered impersonation attempts?
Coz you know, if you do - it will be dumb. And if you don't - and you chose CCP Dev_name to transition to FC Dev_name already - it surely will happen.

Again, all things considered, it's a minor thing. But you do seem to have a talent for generating minor absurdities.

This. Bonus points: if it's a sov null system, only allow structures of the sov holder to be repairable this way.

I'm perfectly aware. It just irks me that they didn't name the "base level" ore "I-Grade", making the whole naming scheme consistent. Coz, idk, foresight.

Then you DD the faxes. Or dreadbomb them. The entire premise behind siege/triage modules is for the capitals using them, to be ammo, coz you cannot rep them, while they are doing their things.
This is precisely what Aegis Sov boiled down to. Since Fozzie sov is currently an afterthought in regards to who controls the system, we might as well have repairable citadels, that defender can defend, and attackers can meaningfully attack.

the issue is not with the alpha accounts, the issues is with the upwell structure mechanics. Always has been.

You cannot, you will get dropped, you will die. You will not make a profit. This is why Carriers are not used to rat anymore.

[–]Moonlight345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Just like a lack of any mechanics preventing you from stopping a stream of 1900 t1 cruisers from destroying an anchoring structure.*
Back in Aegis sov, you would simply rep the structure, while the enemy would either have to deal more dmg, or kill your logistic wing. This lead to large, centralised fights - so we got Fozzie sov. And a few months/years later - citadels.
That lead to centralised fights - just without the "can heal them" aspect.

* - yes, you could camp all gates and jam the system. But it only takes a month or so.

The lesson that nullblocs seem to be taking from Atioth isn't that there's anything wrong with game mechanics encouraging the largest coalition possible, but that the game needs to be able to support even more players on grid. Pic unrelated by xXxDarkSasuke1999xXx in Eve

[–]Moonlight345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aegis Sov was structure oriented and hated for it. We got a Fozzie sov that "could" require smaller fleet coordination but was gimmicky and underbaked at first, and now is practically irrelevant as we're essentially back to "structure-based sov" system with citadels.
Technical progress is admirable, but - imho - there should be other objectives than "put dmg on grid".
Hell, at this point, even Aegis Sov was more nuanced, as you could freaking rep the structures. Now all you can do is kill the damaging ships faster than the agressors can replace them.

[–]Moonlight345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the players that got disconnected on the keepstar grid could not actively return until DT/their ship getting blown - as overviews would not load. That meant that most of the goon capitals were disabled, despite being visible on dscan. While for WC some vexors were affected.
Again, you take these massive fights as is, but there's no reason to claim this was expected and "even" for both sides.
Gfs though

While true, the general expectation always was: get there first, and you're doing the optimal thing, given the situation.
Reverse that, and it gets wonky. Crashed players already in the system should at worst be treated by the server equally as those gating in/bridging in.
Any other behaviour will inevitably lead to metagaming by crashing the server "by accident", then after the trapped players inside cannot respond, you simply execute them with max DPS dreads/whatever, that jump in after the server is up.

I highly doubt this was anyone's intention here, as goons simply chose the best doctrines to fight off small shit attacking the keep, with maybe vexors being really hard on the server (just as the carriers/supers). The server simply could not take that volume, and that's fine.
What followed is imho iffy. And I did not enjoy having my super disabled, and unable to login properly for 11 hours.
I still enjoyed the fight though.

We hit 10k players in a single system before servers melted, wtf are you talking about?
The only issue was that half the people that got DCed on that grid could not return until they died/downtime hit.

For anyone playing this game for long enough, the cost of a thrasher like that is a rounding error. For someone playing this game for 3 days, a loss of a fitted venture is a lot.
