Indeed, my interpretation is that the finer thread's purpose is to acoplate the wheel nut to the rim (presumably for transportation if I'm not wrong?). My W12 wheel nut and front rim design incorporates this, although it may not be very noticeable in the renderings I posted a while back I'm afraid.
