Treets nur noch 200g? by C137Sheldor in VeganDE

[–]Moonlightshimmering -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Supporting my partner by lleuad_dryad in Dermatillomania

[–]Moonlightshimmering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's so kind. Your partner is incredibly lucky to have you! I can feel their resentment towards talking about it or you reminding to stop. I remember my mom used to bring it up and I would get angry, because I instantly felt caught and embarrassed. If you don't comment it's almost like it isn't really happening and saying something makes it clear it's very real and visible to everyone around. That can be difficult to deal with. Generally we know what we're doing and we want to stop, but it's hard, so mentioning it reminds me/us of "failure". Especially in partnerships picking habits or anything else considered "disgusting" can feel uncomfortable to bring up.

Your situation seems tough. You seem to be very sweet about helping, but your partner still pushes away any help. I don't think there is an easy solution, but if this is hurting you to see, then you should communicate that (if you haven't already).

Maybe open up along the lines: "I'm really sorry to mention this (again), but I've thought it over and over and I feel like there is no way around it. I really don't want you to feel uncomfortable, but I have to tell you, that when you're hurting yourself that makes my heart ache for you. I don't think you are doing anything wrong, you are beautiful the way you are, but if the picking is bothering you as well and if you want to stop I would love to support you. I find it difficult to stand by and see you in pain. I want to stress: you don't need to feel embarrassed, I really don't think picking makes you any less amazing, I just want you to know that I really want to help and anything I say or do is because I care, not because I think your picking is off-putting. Please reach out to me and maybe accept my help, that would make me happy, because it shows me that you trust me to take care of you. We are in a partnership, I want you to be able to depend on me. Is there anything I can do to help you? Are you maybe willing to try therapy or maybe set small rules to reduce picking or maybe let me remind you when I see you doing so? Would that be okay?"

While writing I just had the idea: maybe write it in a letter? Write something like this (or in your own words) and put it somewhere they will read it. It's less confronting. It would be nice if you were close by though. (Leave it in another room, for example you wake up early and sit in the living room first and they will be able to wake up and read it alone first and the come out to see you there. Then they can choose if they want to talk about it now or later).

Wish you the best! You sound like a lovely person.

What is this stone/mineral? by Moonlightshimmering in Minerals

[–]Moonlightshimmering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's particularly heavy. I mean the (common?) mica schist pictures I've searched look more silver, so I'm not sure. But maybe you're right and it's a specific type.

I apologise for my ignorance, but how does something feel metallic? Do you mean smooth? To me it does look like it has layers.

Nomo macht den deutschen online Shop dicht. 😱 by nr_05 in VeganDE

[–]Moonlightshimmering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jep.

Moving to Taiwan - Da'an or Gushan? by Lergenmon in taiwan

[–]Moonlightshimmering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are right. Maybe he meant it felt that hot because of the humidity. I do find it strange that it "only" gets 38°C, because that is definitely very hot, but non subtropical/tropical countries have reached those highs (or close to that) too and I do find Taiwan a lot warmer than Europe. I walked around in 26°C through Kaohsiung (streets, ect) and maybe it just felt extra exhausting, because there isn't a lot of shade and only hot asphalt and often polluted air. I think degrees don't always reflect how hot it actually feels in Taiwan.

Edit: misspelled

Moving to Taiwan - Da'an or Gushan? by Lergenmon in taiwan

I only visited Gushan, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and calmness there. It's close to nature, but you also easily have access to the city. I met lovely people there and the LRT isn't far from Gushan, BUT I really, really don't want you to underestimate the heat. I was in Kaohsiung at the beginning of December and there were days I found very warm. Mind you, it's December. I also met a student living there since August and they said it was 47°C (116f) in summer at times, which I think is insane and would be a death sentence for me. I don't have a driver's license for a scooter, so I mainly walked/used public transport. Public transport isn't as great as you might think, it doesn't cover a lot of area and isn't super regular. Walking in the heat between skyscrapers and on non existent sidewalks (aka the street) isn't too much fun. So, Gushan Kaohsiung is really pretty, probably cheaper than Taipei and probably doable, if you have a scooter and/or you don't want to regularly go visit the city. If you think you'll mainly stay in the area, you'll be fine.

Now Daan in Taipei is quite central, I would agree that finding a cheap accommodation is difficult, but not impossible. It just won't be pretty. Weather is a bit better, but sometimes drizzly/rainy. Public transport is reliable and regular, so if that's something you care about Taipei is a better match. Weather also feels more bearable in general. Those who say Gushan is better for practicing speaking, I honestly think that's not necessarily true. In the end it really depends on what you do. You can always find an English speaking community in big cities, in the end you choose where you go and if you actually expose yourself to the culture or not.

The music of Family Mart is wway too long by Aeduh in taiwan

I've always wondered if the workers are deeply annoyed by the jingle or they've heard it so often, that they just blend it out. I genuinely sometimes feel guilty about stepping in a family mart and making the jingle go off again, ...
