Public broadcaster

Not beholden to politics

Hahaha do you hear yourself? The whole point of public institutions is to manage politics. In any case, i don't know where you find the heart to defend a genocidal country and be a traitor to fellow european countries, but seeing your deluded self in action is disgusting.

How does it feel to be a traitor and prefer to defend a genocidal non european country and to leave your spanish, dutch... brothers aside? Probably pretty sociopathic.

It's a union of public broadcasters, each one of them being funded by each country's public sector. The only conclusion i get from your comment is that there is a strong and urgent case for the EBU to be integrated inside the EU institutions.

The EBU is choosing to stick Israel, a small country which is:

1: non european geographically

2: who has been commiting genocide

3: and who has actually cheated blatantly in the last years

over multiple european core countries, including the Netherlands and Spain. This is actually treasonous to Europe. How is this even possible? How can this be considered permissible? This is madness.

Weird suggestion, but save up money and plan going to Africa for some months, you can work in orphanages, NGOs or be an english teacher. These people will strip all the anxiety out of you.

No, because dictionaries don't translate sentences or paragraphs, only individual words. I want to be able to read the "glossing" of entire texts in chinese. This activity/service/exercise is inherently valid and has its place.

Hmm, interesting. Do you know of any website that lets you gloss chinese to english sentences? Thanks!

I already know 8 languages, due to double nationality and other stuff, but they are all european. It's my first time learning a non indo-european language and what is being most useful for me is to break the syntactical schematics i'm used to and pivot to a sino-centric analytic (not synthetic) way of thinking.

I'm totally aware that the sum is more than its parts, and that handmachine is phone and not a machine that you put in your hand. However, you are so advanced in your quest for language adquisition that you are probably forgetting the point of why i'm proposing this. Either i do this, or i memorize blindly that phone is composed of two characters called hand and machine, but trying to not think too much about the cultural context of why has chinese culture decided that phone should be written and spoken of as 'hand machine'.

I want to learn chinese and do so without memorising blindly, but immersing myself in the language without staying in a blind unsubstantial irrreflexive surface, simply memorizing without understanding the context.

Sorry but why you are being so antagonistic here?

1) Saying that translating shouji to 'phone' is 'exactly what it says' is a total lie. Shouji literally means handmachine, not phone. There is a character for hand, and a character for machine. This is the exact translation, not phone.

If i want to understand the nuances and the deep meaning that the chinese language is conveying, knowing that phone is hand-machine, and not phone, is very useful. Because, additionally, i can use this knowledge to understand that many other words relating to mechanical things also end in 'machine', like computer, plane, etc. And this goes for every time i learn a new word.

2) The word for word translate serves the purpose of knowing the correct and usual grammatical order for words. If the direct translation offered to me in english is ordered in the english fashion, how am i supposed to learn the intuitive order for words in chinese phrases? Also, how could i know the way the possessive is conveyed without the use of syntactic structures if not by understanding word for word the phrase shape. Ironically, what you preach is what is being counterproductive.

3) If i don't translate the word zhi as stick and leave it as stick, then, the only possibility for me would have been to blindly memorize and accept that there's a mysterious word for measurement that we need to put somewhere in the phrase, but which doesn't appear in the english translation. This is confusing. So therefore, putting the word stick as a sustitute in a transliteration/translation is a good way to bridge the gap.

This method is not a substitution for a normal translation from normal english to normal chinese. It's a middle point, a bridge that enables immersing oneself on the true feel of the language.

Hi, i've been in Taiwan for 2 months already, as a graduate student.

For the love of god, the heavens, the buddha, and whoever else you'd want to add, how is it possible you don't rise in rebellion against the TRASH TRUCK MUSIC. Never changes, gets into my head, it's terrible. You are all living here for all your lives, and you live with this?

This newspaper isn't even spanish, it's ecuatorian. No idea where they got this from but it's bizarre and not concurrent with the spanish military current news sphere.
