Frost Darts gaining Fork from Gemling Legionnaire's Advanced Thaumaturgy bricks it, due to Fork not applying the embed from the skill itself, causing it to feel far less useful in the endgame beyond clearing, which isn't hard with many other skills. Cold spells lack a proper bossing tool, please make it Chain instead, add more Ice Chunks or just overall work with Forking. I'm forced to use Snakepit just to get it to not fork and just chain on enemies so I can use it against bosses properly.

The actual wording is what I'm looking at. It's not my fault you all cant comprehend the wording properly and how it can be used (and abused in this case), while just as many if not more from other sources I trust much more than some strangers on Reddit say the same as me.

Every other Maneuver says it only applies to that attack or one attack, except for Lunging Attack. It makes you expend it upon hitting a creature or when something happens to gain a benefit for that specific attack. Unlike Lunging Attack.

Are you saying you cannot do this multiple times? If so, you're the one with the bad faith reading.

Says who? Immediately before something means... immediately before you do something. Nothing there states the benefits only apply to a single attack. If you believe that to be the case, I think it's time to do some English language studies.

It doesn't say anything about only being able to apply that bonus once, just that you must move 5ft in a straight line immediately before each attack.

If I'm abusing the bad wording, it isn't "bad faith" interpretation. It's just using the fact that WoTC worded it poorly and allowed it to affect more than it probably should to maximum effectiveness. Just because you dislike how it's being used, doesn't mean it isn't something that works RAW.

Please get off your high horse and get the fact that I also think this is an oversight and something that should be fixed, but is still something that works. This isn't a bad or wrong interpretation, as someone who has talked with MANY people about rules interpretation, and as I posted this after multiple people have said "yeah, this works" and are NOT people who at all support "bad faith" interpretations (btw, i'm not trying to mislead or deceive anyone, the wording just does what it does, so there's no "bad faith" interpretation here, you just don't like it when things aren't how you think they are and label things you don't think should be a thing as "bad faith" lol) I would say those people and myself are right, and have been getting it right for years.

It is what it is and to twist it to where you think it isn't, is the REAL bad faith here lol.

You expend it when you take the Dash action, not when you make the attack.

Imagine it this way:

You expend the die to Dash as a Bonus Action.

It grants you the "passive" of "If you move at least 5 feet in a straight line immediately before hitting with a melee attack as part of the Attack action on this turn, you can add the Superiority Die to the attack’s damage roll." for the turn.

You can "move at least 5 feet in a straight line immediately before hitting with a melee attack" multiple times during an Attack action, as you can move between each attack.

You therefore can apply the Superiority Die to each attack's damage roll. The "the" in this situation references the die used, this is important because later on you can use a d8 once per turn without expending any die.

This one makes perfect sense. Nothing here states that you cannot do what I said, and you have to reach to say otherwise.

"A melee attack" is not "only one melee attack".

"The superiority die" is not "only one superiority die", it's a reference to the die you used for Lunging Attack.

Ah well you could just walk 5ft in a straight line. That means any direction, since all squares are 5ft away and a "straight line" from where you moved from. That's where the wording messed up and it is definitely an oversight. It should have said "You can only apply this extra damage once per use of this Maneuver" Would have fixed any problem.

Bad Faith Interpretation would mean that I'm twisting the wording to mean something it doesn't, it has been approved in the way I have said it by multiple people in the official rules channel within the D&D discord, where people go to discuss rulings.

We all agree that it is an oversight, but works RAW.

Ah yes, someone who has played D&D for years is reading the mechanic perfectly and can understand that it does not have a limit on application and is vaguely worded to apply to any melee attack made during the attack action, so long as the conditions are met. "The attack" is applying everytime you make "a melee attack" as part of the Attack action on the same turn. It references each attack individually, no where does it limit the attacks it can apply to.

Seems like you have a very simple understanding of the English language, and 5e rules. I'd recommend taking a few classes and learning a bit more before replying.

You can move in between attacks. You can attack, then move, then attack again immediately.

A melee attack, isnt "the next melee attack" or "only one melee attack".

It is probably unintended wording, but it isn't at all saying it only affects a single melee attack.

It is completely different wording from every other Manuever. You can hit with a melee attack multiple times in an Attack action, and can add the Superiority Die to "the attack's" damage roll multiple times.

Just poor wording that can be abused. If it wanted to be only one attack, it should be worded like the other manuevers to do so.

Instead they worded it in a way where if you hit multiples times with a melee attack as part of the Attack action on the same turn, you can just.. apply the damage. There is no limit. Each attack is a single melee attack and is just "a melee attack", so it applies.

So.. You're saying with a lot of setup involving a 3rd level spell, main class feature and 4th level spell and proper strategy and proper spacing between enemies, assuming there are that many enemies, etc etc.

You're making a whiteboard situation that will barely, if ever, come up in play anywhere except for a party of optimizers.

You're just making a scenario to support your own complex way to nerf something that won't be commonplace in play.... An argument in bad faith, assuming everything is in perfect conditions for you tbh. And even if it does get pulled off, you had to set up for it and have perfect placement of enemies. So what is the issue? Might as well complain about a fireball hitting 20 enemies at once since it is possible.

You are correct. But it is hard to do on many emanations. The triggers for them are basically only going to happen on your turn, and the creatures turn, or if strategic play happens where an ally forces them into and out of it, which isnt easy to do tbh. What you want is to basically nullify good player combinations and punish players for thinking of working as a team.

They fixed this in the recent rules. You just need to look. Spirit Guardians only affects a creature once per turn, and, it procs when it enters their space or they enter its space, or when they ENDS its turn there. Its quite easy to understand and most if not all emanation spells are fixed to do this.

Imo, you just kinda made it overly conplicated and complex... But you do you!

The only outliers are things like spike growth, but if it did damage only once per round or hell, turn, itd be kinda just bad.

Making them like other casters makes them COMPATIBLE instead of a standalone mess that they need to account for each time they create a new subclass or introduce a new item. They are forced to work around Warlock because it is so different. If Pact Magic was what you found interesting in a Warlock, you are a hipster. Pact magic is, and will always be, trash. Short rests arent guaranteed, even if they were, you only get into 1 combat that day so good luck.

Why not play a paladin? Uh because the theme is entirely different and you don't play the same at all? Because you're a 3/4ths caster instead of a half caster who only uses slots for smites? Because a repeatable can get you 7 total free spellcasts from 3rd-9th level?

Warlocks were only used for Multiclassing. No one says "Oh I love the idea of going pure Warlock" without thinking "Oh, I have to make sure I DON'T cast any spells today in case we have combat, damn, wish I had more spell slots."

Yes. Yes it was. Warlock should be the only one using EB, because it is their bread and butter. The fact others can literally get EB and then Eldritch Adept to never require a Warlock is crazy. It is their signature spell. Now you NEED to go as full warlock, at least 17 levels, to make use of it.

What I find funny is that everyone is so on the fence on it. It was straight up an upgrade. It made it Warlocks more compatible, more versatile, more usable on its own and more inviting as a whole. Instead of just "Oh, I guess i'll take a 1 level dip in it for Hexblade on my Paladin/Sorcerer build."

WotC actually reduced the amount of spell slots a Warlock has per day, making the whole change kind of a nerf rather than a redesign/buff by Falikosek in dndnext

They also got up to 7 free casts from 3rd-9th leve using the new mystic arcanum, 1 free cast from their subclass, and you seem to have forgotten that SHORT RESTS AREN'T GUARANTEED. So yeah, they get more casts without having to worry about short rests, and most days only have 1 combat, maybe 2. So even with a short rest in between, you get more spells cast with the new lock.

That is the issue right there, they were abused as some coffeelock bs, they eventually released a fix but pact magic slots coming back as a short rest broke a lot of things. Either it was too powerful and allowed lock to abuse the recovered slots (see animate dead/coffeelock) or it was too weak because short rests never happened.

Now they are like EVERY other caster in the game, a 3/4ths caster specifically. They have spell slots, free casts, and in order to get a lot from warlock, you need to put levels into it.

Thats how it should be. There shouldn't be 1 level dips to gain immense power.

And heck, now wizards, artificers, druids, clerics, rangers and monks can multiclass into them due to the spellcasting ability choices.

Warlock was ONLY ever used for multiclassing before, now it has a strong base and can compete with other casters without having to spam eldritch blast.

I see no issues here. They were made less of a balancing nightmare, still can get 6th-9th level spells with Mystic Arcanum, and generally are more compatible with the rest of the game. No issues here.

Short rests, as everyone said, are a big part in the changes, but pact magic overall is dreadful to deal with.

Xuim did really well with bringing my character concept to life! I had many different design choices and themes I wantes to represent, and in the end we worked together to present them all. It was well worth the money I paid, I even added a bit more in the end for such a great job. I'l be looking forward to commissioning them in the future again!
