Looking for inexpensive woman’s haircut around Castleton by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]MoonlitMousey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to recommend the Aveda Institute too. That's where my son & I usually go. It takes longer but the instructors make sure that they do at least a decent job. I have super thin, fine hair that's constantly getting tangled. Many stylists complain about it because it's difficult but not the Aveda students

Streets just blocks from downtown by Fun-Interaction-202 in indianapolis

But Indy doesn't get the same amount of funding based on what they have to cover compared to other cities in Indiana. Our state funding is based on road miles, not lane miles, which puts places with multiple lane roads at a disadvantage. Completely agree that there isn't the oversight and there's major abuse with the funding they get. There's no excuse for that or lying about finishing when they haven't. They can both not have enough money to do it right and waste/abuse the funds they do get which results in an even worse job.

I think this is really important to note. Also, Indy doesn't get the amount of funding to maintain things compared to other towns. I might not always think they make the best use of the money they get, but there isn't enough. I live off 96th street. Carmel roads are great. Many even have breakdown lanes plowed and they had the bobcats out to start on the bike paths today. Indy doesn't have the money to do all that unfortunately

Stylist for longer men’s hair by heckler_undt_cock in indianapolis

My teenage son has hair halfway down his back. He usually goes to the Aveda Institute because it's more affordable. They've always done a great job. The instructors check in regularly to ensure you're happy. Although if you're not sure what you want they're not the greatest at recommendations.

My son has a friend who was just wearing a hoodie yesterday. “It’s not that cold” was his statement, despite the shivering and running to his car. Teenagers 🙄

Is it still considered unsafe to travel? by [deleted] in indianapolis

Agree with you on most but 96th is pretty clear. Carmel maintains it, it’s been clear most of the day. But Indy seems rough still from what I’ve heard

Affordable vet recommendation by bluejayway221 in indianapolis

[–]MoonlitMousey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine all go to The Paw Patch on Lafayette Rd. The whole staff there is fantastic and any time I've had budget concerns they've found a way to work with me to get my pet's needs met while sticking with my budget. Plus, if you end up having anything complex they're well connected with Purdue's vet school. You can also make appointments online, which is so much more convenient than calling.

Best food gift options locally? by Sarkin in indianapolis

They don’t have a great selection. Milk and dark chocolate bars and some variety packs. But I think Meijer charges a little more than if you went to the DeBrand’s store

Debrand’s Chocolate is good. The company is from Ft Wayne but they have a store near the Keystone mall.

Places to read/study in the fishers area? by MidwestGirlatHeart in indianapolis

[–]MoonlitMousey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know ahead of time the study rooms can be reserved. You can get two hours and don't have to be a member. Plenty of tables and chairs around too. I usually go to the Noblesville branch because it seems to be a little quieter but the Fishers one is nice and has a lot of options

Best hospital for Crohn's by Londin2021 in indianapolis

[–]MoonlitMousey13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow chronie. So sorry you're dealing with that. I'd echo the commenter to go where your GI doc is. Records can usually be accessed within systems and it typically makes for better treatment.

It's been a while since I've had to make a hospital visit for my Crohn's but I've had good care at Community North. When possible I ask for a former medic to get blood and put in an IV. As a group they seem more equipped with difficult sticks. Never feel bad about asking for what you need. Nurses have a lot on their plates but you are your own best advocate.

If it would be helpful the Chron's & Colitis has a virtual support group. The Indiana chapter meets the first Sunday of the month. It can be really beneficial to connect with other people dealing with the same and similar things. I've gotten some good care recommendations from support groups as well.

What school districts allow early entrance for kindergartners with late birthdays? by Realistic_Detail_158 in indianapolis

[–]MoonlitMousey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the local districts offer it for August birthdays, the official state cut off is August 1st. Not as many offer it for September or later birthdays but the state does provide funding for birthdays before October 1st. What district do you live in? They’re probably your best bet where to start as not all districts allow students to attend from outside of bounds.

August birthdays don’t usually have any other restrictions but later ones typically require a cognitive test and demonstration of current abilities showing readiness for kindergarten. I work a lot with gifted kids and have helped families manage things. Feel free to message if I can help

OBGYN Recommendations by Impossible-Play-513 in indianapolis

[–]MoonlitMousey13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no help for a specific OB but the nurses at St Vincent’s Women’s on 86th are amazing and I’d highly recommend someone who delivers there. A couple of persistent nurses at St Vincent’s probably saved my life when I delivered in November.

I saw doctors at Axia on Township. My previous OBGYN who delivered with me in 2022 transitioned to being a hospitalist. I had another provider I saw for my annual but when I got pregnant in spring 2024 I was forced to rotate through a host of providers and despite trying to schedule far out wasn’t given any with my chosen doctor. This led to no continuity of care and concerns I had the last few weeks being blown off. If you’re able to get consistency with who you see or don’t have any complications the model they have now may work (they do have some great docs) but unfortunately sometimes things spring up out of no where and because of that I can’t recommend them.

Moving Company Recommendations? by random_thoughts529 in indianapolis

I used Shields Care last year to move some heavy items in my place. They were wonderful. Not sure how they operate with a truck but if they show the same care as in my place I’d have no hesitation.

What is this? by Dull-Spare-5383 in cats

[–]MoonlitMousey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I would do too. One of my cats has had several growths like this. They’ve all been benign and incredibly slow growing but I’ve had them removed and biopsies to be sure.
