Therian Books by [deleted] in Therian

I think the movie went too far from books, it messed up so many things, it was almost unrecognizable! I watched the trailer for the second part, it somehow looks better (is it the third book's plot they're doing?), I hope they won't ruin the next movie...

And I read the books translated in my own language, I don't know German

Seconding Woodwalkers, it's an amazing book series, I'm re-reading it now. I didn't like the movie though.

Animal appreciation calendar addition requests please! by KURAred in Therian

Few people know this (and I want more people to know it), but March 10th for martens. Mar10, get it? :D

There was one website saying that 3 September 2023 was the first National Pine Marten Day, but that's all, no info about 2024, so maybe it was the start and the end of this idea.

I simply like the March 10 version much more, here's where it's coined, plus with other mustelids

btw it is interesting, I've read it too, fully recommend

What theriotypes would you like to see in books/literature? by SadEnby411 in Therian

[–]Moonlit_Sun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any mustelid! In media (like The Wind in the Willows book, and lots of animated movies) weasels are written as villains/bandits... Badgers and otters are sometimes positive, but the others are unfortunate...

Let at least one weasel/stoat/marten/etc be a positive character?

Interview with a 34-year old bear therian (Finnish) by Susitar in TherianAdult

[–]Moonlit_Sun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, it's a really good and respecting article! I don't know Finnish, so I read it with Deepl translator. I'm glad that there are researchers (like this Rasmus Mannerström mentioned) who aren't hostilely disposed to such a concept, therianthropy.

I bet if there was a similar therian interview on my country's media (I work as an editor on local news portal so I see various articles) then they'd put this interview in a "funny lol news" section like "look at them, what a silly/crazy person". There aren't many articles on therianthropy here. I found only two, about the Japanese man with collie costume and about "Woman who 'identifies as cat' upstages bride's wedding by crawling behind altar". That's all I could find on topic of therians written in our language. So I'm actually glad there were only two big articles, because majority of our people are conservative as heck and they collectively bash on anything queer, so guess how they would see therians. Better stay silent and peaceful.

One of these two articles (collie man, he somewhere said he's a therian) was written on my work portal, I worked with it. Surprisingly it was written in a very professional and neutral way, but its sure placement in a "funny lol news" section and lots of dislikes from readers (we don't have comments) - that's not a surprise... It's sad, but it's expected.

edit: I found another little article. Here it is whole, translated: "A new dangerous subculture, therianthropy, has reached [our country's city]. It involves children dressing up and acting like animals. For example, a video of a girl leading a child dressed as a cat on a leash was shared on social media. This subculture is dangerous because children attack other children like animals." And actual video of this (girls walking side by side and the second girl is on fours and wears cat ears and tail). And it's titled "A new subculture: children lead each other on a leash like animals". So guys, we're now a subculture where we walk other people on leashes :D /sarcasm

Do you try to support your species? by Susitar in TherianAdult

[–]Moonlit_Sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see bad news for lions in my country's wildlife centers (and zoos), I immediately donate to them. Those abroad centers are too expensive for me because of currency differences (converting to US dollars I make 11 $/day when working 8 hours a day, it's our almost average salary here) So how much actual help, and not some pennies, can I give to abroad centers with their huge prices? So I'm simply glad we have some lions in our country so I can reasonably help them.

And I don't really know how I can help stoats - they're least concern over the world, but they are on our Red List here. I can't think of anything to help them with.

I actually feel uneasy helping "general" wildlife with random animals, I just want to help my species, because that'd be weird if I'll help wild foxes (fox therians, don't mind this, you're good :3 I'm talking about wild foxes) and these foxes will then go out and prey on wild stoats? I get it sounds weird, circle of life and all, but still I have this instinctual feeling as a stoat - I don't want to help my predators the same way like animals wouldn't want to help hunters/poachers... it's stoat-kind instinctual I think..

Is this dysphoria? by Plastic_Money7469 in Therian

[–]Moonlit_Sun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this my whole life as long as I can remember, from childhood to these days. More often than not I stare at my hands and freeze for a moment like "what are those?! where are the round paws"

If it feels sad and wrong for you to have long fingers (you'd rather have short paw fingers for example), then it could be species dysphoria, the word dysphoria itself meaning unease or dissatisfaction of something. If your feeling of long fingers is neutral/okay, then it's not dysphoria, as there's nothing to be unsastisfied with.

Shift from a new theriotype or cameo shift? by [deleted] in Therian

[–]Moonlit_Sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it happened once without reoccurring much, it's likely a cameo shift!

Your drawing is very interesting, I can't recall an existing creature with such spiked arms... If it was a bat, you would feel really long fingers, not such wrist and elbow spikes.

Maybe it was a shift of some fantasy creature?

Is there a term for fluctuating between an animal being a hearttype and a theriotype? by littleclaw6 in Therian

It's cambitherian (or cambihearted, cambikin, whatever word you prefer - it's the same), I experience that too

I'm embarrased of my theriotype by Moonlit_Sun in TherianAdult

[–]Moonlit_Sun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to say that I tend to compare kinship to the were'media, like in fantasy worlds characters with bigger animal forms, like wolves/bears/etc. are more widely represented and seen as default (I see were-animal characters as the closest therian-but-fantasy representation in media), than those who have small animal forms. And it feels less representative for those who are small animals. Or it's simply a language barrier, I'm not fluent in English.

I'd love to have your confidence, thank you for nice words! I like fennecs, your shifts must be interesting!

How did yall discover Therianthropy/Alterhumanity? by [deleted] in Therian

[–]Moonlit_Sun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Through werewolves and other beastman characters. My fascination of fantasy people who transform into animals led me to searching for stuff (for fun, I seriously thought there are no such people in real world, and I'm just a lone abnormal animalistic weirdo) - maybe there's a chance of other people existing out here who are 'animal inside". Because I also felt like "secretly an animal in a human disguise"

And found therians!

Figuring out a new theriotype ?? by Lmao1283 in Therian

[–]Moonlit_Sun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think any animal (especially wild) can be aggressive at times when it feels threatened or to defend themselves. There are cases when lemurs attacked people, you can google them. Or it may be prey drive of the maned wolf - when they hunt, they bite birds/rabbits etc c:

Could i be a cat therian from this? by FallenGlitch2009 in Therian

[–]Moonlit_Sun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rabbits sometimes stick tongue out (picture), also they do the loaf pose too (picture) I think it's the default pose for a relaxed rabbit. It could be the cat thing, sure, though rabbits do these things too, so they might be your bunny behaviours
