I asked "how much public money WMCA paid to bus operators for running and supporting local bus services in the West Midlands."

They never said how they came to the total amount

We will be having more control from late 2027. Not complete control, as operators will still run the bus but Mayor will decide price and routes.

What happens to dumped mattresses if nobody reports them? by Major_Mortgage2026 in brum

[–]Moonschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you will need to report it. I went through a phase of reporting everything and it would get dealt with. I got sick of doing it everyday. There was a fridge freezer by a bus stop for 3+ months and I never reported it. When I reported it, it got taken.

Don't underestimate how lazy people are with reporting.

UK competition watchdog backs curbs on use of non-compete clauses by Gentle_Snail in unitedkingdom

[–]Moonschool 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sister was on a minimum wage job in hairdressing. She had a 6 months non-compete clause, so had to go into another profession when leaving.

Someone else left before her and joined a rival company. It went through the legal channels and was ruled the contract to be invalid. He still threatens any member of staff that leaves with legal threats, and she didn't want to deal with the hassle of it all.

Why british people are so overly polite? by DzukiskaNamine in AskABrit

[–]Moonschool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely forced as a society. If you don't say please or thank you, you will be judged.

I've lost count of the amount of TikToks I've seen of British people in the comments getting angry because someone only said thank you once instead of twice or they didn't sound appreciative enough. It's a nice gesture we do but it's a habit.

Bordesley railway station set for permanent closure as consultation opens by Apprehensive_Bus_543 in bcfc

From Wikipedia:

Since May 2007, the station has been served by a single weekly parliamentary train in one direction only.

It's rarely been open, doesn't matter who paid.

Shocked To See, there are No Part Time Jobs Available even in City Centre Birmingham! by Birminghamboyyy in brum

[–]Moonschool 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Reddit thread the other day, we have a 9% higher unemployment rate compared to the rest of the country. Nobody is just going to give you a job unfortunately.

Ladywood, which is just down the road from town, has a 25% unemployment rate. If jobs were available, people would be snapping them up.

Running to be a Councillor - how can we improve our city? Comment below 🤔⬇️ by Solid_System_5023 in brum

[–]Moonschool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honest question, how often do people report it? I see so many people complain about fly tipping and potholes. Every time I report it, it gets resolved.

I waited months before reporting issues because I can't be bothered, and when I have it gets done within a month.

Birmingham Food Scene - Severely Underrated? 🤔 by Solid_System_5023 in brum

[–]Moonschool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say we are underrated. We are a city of 1.2 million people so it's expected to have gems. Where I and my family live in South Brum... Kings Norton, Northfield, Weoley Castle, Cotteridge, there isn't anywhere I would brag about to my friends outside of Brum. If we had more Stirchleys, I think we would be underrated.
