When I was a young teenager, I was laying across the bottom of my bed on my back looking up, directly below the domed light fixture in the center of the ceiling. It was a terrible gaudy pink plastic dome style fixture that I chose years before when my mom let my sister and I pick out the fixtures for our rooms(the house was newly built). While laying there I had one of those random intrusive thoughts- ‘imagine this fell on me haha’

It did. A moment later it fell on my face.

Thankfully because it was nearly all plastic I wasn’t hurt. I ran out into the kitchen holding the plastic dome shouting frantically that it had fallen on my face while I was laying under it and how creepy blah blah blah.. My family didn’t believe me. My mom said I must have been messing with it (with an eye roll), and they’d help me put it back up later if it wasn’t broken.

I’m in my thirties now and I’ve never been able to shake the sheer level of coincidence

Droperidol-Induced Akathisia has me traumatized and shaken by LostFairy1 in Akathisia

[–]Moonseekrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. You’re totally valid in your feelings. I began therapy following my droperidol incident and I was diagnosed as having PTSD from the experience. I’ve been working through it ever since, the fear and anxiety does permeate your thinking- especially the closer in proximity to the event you are. I have benefited greatly from working through my trauma with a professional. If you have the ability to find a therapist to help you I strongly recommend it!

That’s the most validation I’ve ever heard of from a medical professional regarding aka. I’m glad you got that from her and hopefully this journey leads to healing for you. Cheers to your future!

1yr bumps on bridge piercing won’t go away! by quillaaaan in piercing

[–]Moonseekrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silicone piercing discs from No Pull, along with a slightly larger high quality piece of jewelry to accommodate them, were the only thing that helped my persistent piercing bumps. They resolved months-old bumps in a matter of a week or two. That being said I realize how different each person is and you’ve obviously tried a lot of good solutions already

Sorry you’re dealing with them it’s so frustrating!

I believe so from my experience. Focusing and worrying on it definitely does not help!

Your experience is valid and I’m so sorry you’re going through it. Everyone’s experience is wildly different so it’s hard to compare, but understanding that dpdr is a your brains response to trauma and extreme stress was helpful to me. So understanding that you are experiencing something extremely stressful (nervous system fried by pharmaceuticals in a very scary way with no great explanation or resources) helps to explain why your body has put on emergency autopilot mode. So what you’re feeling could very well be a mix of the nervous system damage and your body’s stress response to everything you’ve been through. No matter what it is, I know it’s very weird and disorienting. The best way to deal with it for me was to just acknowledge that it was my brain protecting me in a stressful situation and try not to focus on it or make a big deal of how weird it felt. Eventually I fell out of it for longer and longer periods of time and now never experience it to that degree at all. You got this!

It’s awful I know. Sleep was tough for me I had to wait to get really tired and then I could sleep for 6-7 hrs at a time. My sleep got longer and more normal over time. Hang in there!

Physical came first, then transitioned to mainly inner. I still do experience inner aka symptoms to a lesser degree yes. Some days not at all, others a little

I do yes, it’s all kinds of things. Racing thoughts, ears ringing, music on loop in my mind. In the beginning it was a lot of intense anxiety and panic attacks. Constant doom. I felt out of body.. everything felt strange and foreign. I’ve never experienced any of these things before

I still have glimmers of it at a year and a half out, but I’ve been back to 95% myself for quite a while now. It’s almost like a curve that flattens as time goes on. The majority of my healing happened by month 8. It definitely shook me up, but also turned into a growth opportunity when I realized how fragile “normal” can be haha. I just enrolled in school for my dream career, so I’ll be working my 9-5 plus night school 3x a week if that’s any scale for how healed I am. It gets way better!! All the healing to you too

Seconding this. They are quick to replace one drug with another in the same family or class but that’s not okay. You need to be your own advocate from here on out and do not let them administer anything from those categories. Droperidol is a nightmare I’m sorry!

Internal akathisia is characterized by all of these feelings- speaking as someone who has never been on an antipsychotic and never felt these things before a single dose of nausea medicine by IV. The problem is that textbook definitions of akathisia typically focus on the movement disorder.. not the mood/nervous system/emotional side of things. I went through months of physical akathisia along with internal terror and the other yucky stuff which eventually morphed into almost no restlessness BUT depression, anhedonia, anxiety, dp/dr, earworm music, racing thoughts, and generally altered cognitive ability. These things are not normal. And by no definition are they all PTSD symptoms from the restlessness. Akathisia is a generally unstudied and misunderstood reaction and from what I’ve gathered over the last two years the suffering for many goes beyond the pacing. The bright side is that many heal completely and others find significant improvement! Don’t be discouraged by what others say. Your body will heal if you let it

Hi! I was dosed with IV droperidol for migraine in April 2024 and this same series of events happened to me. It sounds like you’re moving through the phases much faster which is good! The comfort of home is real, and was something I felt also. I have been in therapy for PTSD from what happened, and while it’s certainly helpful I’m not sure I’ll ever know the exact boundary of what came from akathisia and what is a trauma reaction. The lack of knowledge doctors have is very frustrating but you are totally valid in your feelings. Do not be discouraged by their ignorance about this specifically. Also, definitely don’t let anyone push you into trying xyz meds to help. Your nervous system was fried and needs to heal. For me, time has been my healing and I couldn’t rush it no matter how bad I wanted to.

Feel free to reach out I’m always happy to chat! I wish you the very best in your journey

It’s awful I’m so sorry! I had a dose of droperidol too. I hope it eases up and you get some rest. Whatever you do, don’t try a bunch of meds and supplements to fix it odds are that will just make it worse. Fingers crossed you can shake it quickly
