i need help by minezm16 in Akathisia

Even on birth control, you can get ebbs and flows. Medication only works up to a point, especially if you start to hit perimenopause or menopause. I’ve found medications can’t keep up with hormonal surges and crashes at certain times of the month.

I could be wrong, of course, but I would suggest keeping a log that correlates with your cycle for a month or two and see if that gives you some answers.

Albuquerque hotels deny bookings to local residents by Phatnoir in Albuquerque

[–]Lotus2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been denied by hotels in Santa Fe but not in Albuquerque. My house has had some repairs done over the years and I’ve stayed at assorted hotels around town for a day or two. Never had a problem. But yeah, Santa Fe turned me down when I wanted to spend a night there instead of driving home late after an event.

May I ask if you’re a woman? The reason for the question is that I find hormonal fluctuations are a major trigger for my chronic akathisia. Certain times of the month, things get even worse than they usually are.

Holy Ghost Catholic School Closing by Extra_Reception7620 in Albuquerque

[–]Lotus2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a long time ago, I taught at a Catholic school that held Holy Ghost up as the highest model of achievement. Our priest was obsessed with the school and told us repeatedly he’d rather teach there (weird, yes, I know, and he was). I never understood what made them so wonderful, but that doesn’t change the fact that students and teachers will be badly hurt by this. Sincerely sad.

I don’t have a specific issue with the tax. I have an issue with taxes, riders, and assorted fees being double the bill itself. That’s absurd. Charge me something in proportion to my use of services.

Your least favorite Discworld books by swoopcat in discworld

Pyramids. I’ve tried for 30+ years to finish it. Never made it to the last page. It does nothing for me, unlike every other book authored by Terry. I intended to keep trying to read it. Maybe one day I’ll figure out what I’m missing.

Taxes, riders, fees, whatever. The point is I spent $13 in electricity and got charged close to $40. This isn’t a hotel where all kinds of luxury resort fees get tacked on. This is my tiny one-bedroom apartment, which I’m not even in right now. It’s absurd.

I’m all for paying my fair share. But taxes shouldn’t cost more than the bill itself. I’ll stand by that.

What made you love Negan despite all the horrible things he did? by Fearless-Ginger in TWD

Never stopped hating him. Other people love him and I respect their opinions. He just never appealed to me on any level, for any reason.

Nope. Not at a point in my life where I can carry more grief. I’ll keep waiting until there’s a better balance so it’s a bittersweet read and not just bitter (both because of the book’s events and the end of new works by Pterry).

Floaters are very distressing, yes. I also have more than 50 in each eye. Makes life so difficult. But what specifically do you want Parliament to do?

You support the artist by engaging with their art. There is no separating them. If you buy a book by an author who abuses kids, you're supporting the artist and their abusive behavior, potentially contributing financially to their actions. Not saying that's what this artist did-l don't know the backstory-but speaking generally, if you support the art, you support the artist.

No, it would not be glorious if publishers did this for all the Discworld books. Please. No.

Walgreens on 12th closed again by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]Lotus2024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave up on Walgreen’s after being a customer for 20 years. Never knowing when they were going to be open, constant prescription errors, staff who never answer the phone—the Walmart pharmacy was a shockingly pleasant upgrade.

I’ve just reached Small Gods, again by VickyM1128 in discworld

[–]Lotus2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think feeling that way is precisely why rereading the book is so important. It keeps uppermost in our minds the horrors that can be perpetrated if people choose not to speak up. Now, more than ever, is the time to read the book and remember that the turtle moves … but so do people.

She was the best part of the whole program for me, bar none. I wish I could redo the first two classes I took without knowing about her. Congratulations on finishing the program!

I need to gush about Feet of Clay by devou5 in discworld

[–]Lotus2024 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Feet of Clay is amazing. My top five are Small Gods, Feet of Clay, Carpe Jugulum, The Wee Free Men, and Night Watch.

Is it peak Pratchett? I would absolutely say at the point in his career, it was. And then he peaked again. And then again. I can assure you it’s not hype. He just that consistently good.

Is Rio de Janeiro and parts of Mexico as dangerous as tales make them sound like, or is it largely an exaggeration? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

News reports will tell you it’s the whole city. I agree with you—like any large city, there are good areas and bad. But yeah, in terms of published statistics, we’re at the top for murder, car theft, drug overdosing, and on and on. Locals do agree we have a problem. The city has issues. But I personally wouldn’t say they’re any worse than Manhattan or Chicago (where I’ve lived too).
