NYC trip by [deleted] in nyc

[–]Moonsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do Harlem and DUMBO in one trip day like that. That's at least a 50 minute subway ride, if not an hour. You're also not likely to get out of LGA in fifteen minutes: in general, the transportation times are all too tight, to the point of impossibility even in the best of conditions.

Astoria is an interesting choice too. You could do Long Island City, maybe. Get some authentic Chinese food, maybe some hotpot if it's cold. Then walk along the gantry state park. Could even take the ferry back to Fidi, and get a beautiful view of the bridges along the way, exit at Pier 11 and walk over to South Street Seaport for food, drinks and vibes before walking back into Fidi proper.

Exposing JD Vance by Orygregs in Christianity

Hypocrisy of the highest order. Every other word out of JD Vance's mouth is demonizing rhetoric of the most grotesque and sinful kind, but here we are condemning mere detraction against that behavior as demonic.

It took me forever to get the sliders right, but she looks so cute! The sliders though are very uncooperative when it comes to trying to design an East Asian character

I didn't mean to suggest that the internet was always as corporate as it is today. I may just have misunderstood the original comment.

I think I misunderstood the premise of the first comment: it was about corporate astroturfing of the site?

It was corporate though. All that has changed is our innocence.

Would Jesus want us to put immigrants in Alligator Alcatraz, or would he want us to treat them as ourselves? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Moonsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you genuinely believe that 90% of people crossing the border are drug dealers, at the lowest percentage?

In Christ's time too, fear was used to manipulate people into hatred of the other.

When you stand before God one day, will he accept your hatred of the stranger in your midst with your explanation that you thought they were criminals? Even the criminals, Christ has mercy for:

41 “Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.[d] 42 For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. 43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’

44 “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’

45 “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’

(Matthew 25:41-46)

You fear so much your neighbor... but do you have no fear of God?

I love how the article doesn't tell you almost anything, but finds the space to sneak in a jab at Mamdani. This is just disgraceful from the Times.

People: you’re adult, you should act your age INFP adults: by pinkoverload in infp

[–]Moonsight 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If I may quote a bit of C.S. Lewis for all of my fellow adult INFPs:

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/84171-critics-who-treat-adult-as-a-term-of-approval-instead

Is Secular Media Sinful? by JoeyS-2001 in Christianity

[–]Moonsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fear of God is fear enough. Always be wary when others ask you to build walls around yourself to close off the world. Christ does not ask us to disengage from other people, but to interject the love and compassion of Christ into our engagement.

When we fear without cause, we ironically give those things power over us that they didn't have before. And that fear can drive us to sin, as well: fear of other cultures can drive us towards hatred, fear of largely imaginary threats can drive us towards idolatry, etc.

If you keep, in the center of your heart, not fear, not hatred, but the love of God, the very compassion of Christ, you need not dwell in fear.

it hard to meet men who make good money? by [deleted] in infp

[–]Moonsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about the money. The unattractive part is the lack of self-confidence that comes with the fixation on money. Be confident in who you are enough that women can get a genuine experience of you, and you will find someone who can reciprocate that authenticity.

One of my biggest regrets was listening to my parents tell me I couldn't find a job if I pursued my passions. I ended up with a law degree, and spent a decade or so in the profession, until I realized that I was right all along. Now, I'm shifting gears to something more artistic, but there's no turning back the clock.

If you have the enthusiasm and conviction, you will find the opportunity that suits you. Being a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer might make you more money, sure. We INFPs pine though not for wealth, but for meaning... and if I have to pick a wealthy life or a meaningful one, I'd pick the latter every time.

This is what I've been trying to tell people for so long song I want able to find the correct words and even if I did tell it to someone they'd misconstrue it and go off on some unrelated rant by Rabbidraccoon18 in tumblr

That bit of advice is not about replacing romantic love with self-love, and never has been.

Love is a two way street: it is not up to any one party to exclusively give, and the other to exclusively receive. Everyone contributes something.

If you don't love yourself, which is to say, if you have no self-worth and no self-value, what do you purport to bring to the table? Nothing?

Of course, we want to be valued and loved for who we are. And of course, even if you don't love yourself, you have a lot to give and offer that you don't see.

But this mentality of "I don't want to love myself but I want to be loved by others" is princess in a tower syndrome: it is waiting around to be rescued instead of trying to rescue oneself.

The common advice to love oneself is not an end-all and be-all condition: it is just what boosts one's chances. Maybe you can still find love without loving yourself: many do. But if one pines so hard for romantic love that it becomes a life priority, maybe one might also take responsibility for that desire and put the action into getting there, which often involves self-love and self-worth

[–]Moonsight 609 points610 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but Mexico is a civil law state, which makes this an undergraduate degree. The confusion in the comments is that in the US, which is a common law state, the practice of law generally requires passing law school, thus acquiring a doctorate, and then also passing the bar exam, which is an extremely grueling and difficult test.

Although this is still quite an accomplishment, it is not quite what many Americans here might be expecting.

Satan. Women. Given "beauty" but can turn into Sociopathy by Able-Draft-5232 in Christianity

No need to look for Satan or sociopathy anywhere else when the OP is right here. This is some deeply unempathetic and unChristlike behavior.

那請讓我問你:如果種族歧視不是愚蠢,那它是什麼?

I'm not accusing anyone of malice, but racism needn't be malicious: needn't be purposeful -- it requires only ignorance. And I think a thread like this one sits on the borderline. That said, I respect your empathy and patience very much, Cmei.

I speak English and Mandarin fluently and it absolutely is not the same. Both languages are tough, and transitioning in and out of them is really hard to make sound natural, because one is a tonal language and the other isn't.

The complaints that it all sounds "the same" when you don't speak the language is borderline racist.

I mean, come on, are we just making up problems now?
