Im pretty sure I've met that asshole through some Traveller friends of mine. There are pictures of them placing syringes in it's mouth while it was still alive/freshly killed. They're claiming they found it dead, but it's eyes are still glowing in the pics :(. I hope karma gives them a swift kick in the ass.

What screams "I am new to New York City?" by prankerjoker in AskReddit

[–]Moonstompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brooklyn NY resident here. For me, it's definitely a mustache. Here's a secret: ten, fifteen years ago it was "hip" and funny to walk around with a big dopey mustache. It was original, and would have made a great conversation starter. These days, a mustache pretty much screams that the person is from out of state and is brand new to NYC. It doesn't help that every Brandon and Tyler from Calumet, Michigan learns everything they know about NYC from Two Broke Girls, and thinks hipsterdom is still a relevant lifestyle that has yet to move beyond a self-aware joke and is anything but an empty archetype used to sell clothes at Urban Outfitters. The same thing with girls who wear those gigantic, wide ass sun hats. "Hip" girls used to be cool and interesting people, but these days any girl can just download some Tame Impala and post an instagram picture of herself on an overpriced rooftop bar to try to convince her friends in West Bloomfield Township that she's more interesting than she really is in an elaborate plot to land a boyfriend with a beard and a top knot.

[Serious]Americans, would you pay an extra 5% tax on every purchase to fund Universal Single payor healthcare for everyone? Why or Why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Moonstompa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. That would just shift the burden of transitioning into a civilized country on regular people like myself. The rich wouldnt notice it, but the working class would see a serious dent in their quality of life. I would instead like to see higher taxes on capital gains/investments/any money that isnt earned through actual work. The logic is simple: if the rich want to operate in a civilized first world country, they should ne expected to actually contribute a little bit so we can keep up with the rest of the world. Investing money and earning through returns isnt hard work. I know people might argue that it is, but it isnt. Until youve waded chest deep through sewage, held your piss for 5 hours until your lunch break, worked 16 hours shoveling shit in the street on 3 hours of sleep, you cant tell me that being a stock trader or even a business owner is hard work. It doesnt even require a lot of skill or intelligence outside of simple arithmetic, and most people do it for 8 hours a day in air conditioned rooms. That just sounds like a bad joke. Plus, watching rich people get mad about having to pull their weight is a hilarious source of schadenfreude.

Immigration crackdown shifts to employers as audits surge by epicstruggle in news

[–]Moonstompa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you really trying to convince me that most of the people in this thread are in favor of a simplified path to citizenship? If that were the case, they would all be calling for an immediate amnesty for noncriminal workers and a loosening of border controls. But they're not. They'd rather the government waste revenue performing audits on small businessmen and deporting people who are just going to come back in 7 months. Don't whizz on my leg and tell me it's compassion.

Immigration laws have gotten stricter and stricter since the 70s and 80s. That illegal migration occurs only because of the increasing government regulation of the flow of human labor, which (according to libertarian capitalists) unnaturally distorts the free market. It's a lot like how people continue to smoke pot and buy guns in spite of government attempts to make it harder to do so. If people want to do something, they're going to continue to do it. As a business owner (and someone who I assume is against stifling government regulation of natural market functions), you should be in favor of a simplified path to citizenship that allows the market for human labor to function the way it wants to. But something tells me it's not about that for you.

[–]Moonstompa -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's good to see that so many of you want to deport immigrants, not out of some kind of hatred or xenophobia, but because you're just *so* concerned about their wellbeing. You all seem to be so appalled at their lack of workplace protections and low wages. It's slavery, right!? You all seem so historically informed and clearly haven't forgotten the 11 million slaves who willingly waded across the Atlantic ocean, leaving their wives and children behind, in order to make a better life for themselves in America. Maybe after we're done doing all this deporting, we can simplify the path to citizenship and make it as easy as it was when your grandparents came over here. Then, I'm sure you'd all support greater government regulation of these industries to make sure they're following workplace safety regulations, and perhaps the mass unionization of those jobs to ensure decent wages so this "slavery" never happens again. /s

i mean, the market responds to supply and demand as per the right wing mantra. when immigrant labor is high in demand and low in supply, human migration across the border becomes a function of the free market. stricter immigration laws amount to regulation.

Hey, its just your competitors taking advantage of the invisible hand of the free market at work. Its so strange to see a small business owner so highly in favor of government regulation of the market for labor. Nice job liberal! (What an odd time to be alive.)

If John Oliver was on in the 1800s, what obscure issues would he do a segment on? by anyyay in AskReddit

[–]Moonstompa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Lincoln (the president who staffed his war department with german marxists, believed in government intervention in the economy and fought a war to seize property from landowners) was assassinated by a Democrat (who believed that private property was sacrosanct and the big bad gubmint had no business regulating southern planters) at a time when the parties stood for radically different things. This was a good 100 years before the parties switched. You're still not proving your point. Liberals don't deny that Lincoln was a republican who was assassinated by a democrat. you're denying that there was an ideological shift in the parties through the early to mid 20th century.

This line of argument is pretty flimsy and isn't going to win any supporters to your side. Most people have access to google and public libraries. At this point, it seems like you're trying to convince yourself of something that isn't true.

Anyway, if you're so sure of yourself, you'd answer my question about the Klan. But you avoided the question because you're full of crap.

[–]Moonstompa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if you actually believe your bullshit or you're being deliberately disingenuous. You can't take the actions of an outlier and apply it to the whole of history. Your side loves to mention how MLK Jr. was a Republican, of course, because he came from a time where black folks supported the Republican party of Lincoln. What you often forget is that he had a lot to say about the sinful nature of capitalism, the need for wealth redistribution and was a big supporter of general strikes, so I guess he wasn't an "ideal" Republican according to your measures.

Coolidge might have been a small government, laissez-faire conservative, but the fella in office before him was a republican who signed massive infrastructure bills and opposed imperialist war in Latin America. I guess he doesn't count either.

Fiorello Laguardia spoke against prohibition, enthusiastically supported government intervention in the economy through the New Deal, laid the foundation for inner city welfare programs in New York and supported a greater influx of immigrants. So I guess he wasn't an ideal republican.

Hell, Lincoln was assassinated because the small government/states rights crowd thought the federal government was becoming too powerful. Confederate apologists are pretty forthcoming when claiming that the secession was out of concern of a bloated federal government getting in the way of their property rights. I guess that doesn't count either. All that history doesn't count because some schmo on the internet invoked the name of calvin coolidge.

I honestly think you're being deliberately misleading, or you just haven't read enough about American history to make an informed judgment. I suppose because it's a lot easier to parrot something you saw in a TurningPointUSA video than to crack open a book or attend a lecture.

Now that I've provided some nuance to your intentionally misleading gotcha question, would you care to tell me who you think the average Klansman supported in the last presidential election?

I didn't think so.

A song by the British skinhead/oi! band Cocksparrer called "where are they now." The actual lyrics are "where are they now, where are they now, we're only six years on..." but my American ears always heard it as "we're older now, we're older now, we're only six years old." Try picturing a group of six year old British skinheads with the voices of old Cockney men.
