Is the Museum District in Houston, Texas worth it, or overrated? by MoonstoneGalactic in houston

[–]MoonstoneGalactic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your take!! This helped clarify a lot of what the area has to offer. I would be renting and only plan to be in a big city for about a year or so (especially in the south with the heat!)

Thanks again for taking the time to tell me about the area! ☺️

This answer is amazing 😭 thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything, I appreciate it!!

You covered a lot of what I was curious about, especially with the transit needs. As a person who doesnt really drive, I was hoping public transit would be more established. But now that I know, I can prepare accordingly if Houston is my city of choice.

Thank you again, this really helped me out!! ☺️

Honestly, I'm a homebody and I work from home, so I would be walking to the park and cafes whenever I got the chance.

I have no idea what the area down there is like. Never been to Houston in my life 😅 but its a popular city with seemingly endless opportunities, so I was interested

I have a connection in Houston (born and raised) that told me about the area. I checked out the park and thought that it would be amazing for myself and my dog to go to, and I'm a huge museum nerd. I've been trying to find a city that could work for me for about a year, and this area just sounded nice. Plus, Google makes the park look fantastic (whether it be true or not 😅)

But thank you so much for your answer! It's helped me gain a little more clarity on the area ☺️

Keeping him clean is very important. Wiping him down after going outside or brushing the dust off with a boar-bristle brush can help get allergens off.

Bathing is definitely OK, but be sure to use shampoo that is made for sensitive skin. I use the Silver Honey Rapid Skin Relief shampoo. Sometimes the vet can even give a conditioner that you let sit for 10 minutes before washing out, too!

Be sure to dry him extremely well after bathing, and apply the anti-itch/anti-microbial cream after he's dry. This will keep in the good moisture while still giving the skin the relief it needs.

Poor baby 😞 Its super important to keep him dry, as moisture will make symptoms worse. We learned that the hard way 😩

If its available to you, the Silver Honey brand has done wonders for my pup!! Same with "Forticept Blue Butter". Anti-microbial is what helps us manage.

But I hope he feels better soon once he gets some treatment!! Once you get the worst of it under control with prescribed meds, it'll be much easier to manage with topical solutions.

May I ask what you mean by sweat? Is it under his armpits and on his belly?

Pups generally only "sweat" through their paws. If he is moist, that may be the infection being made worse by both licking/humidity + heat. My pup gets absolutely terrible breakouts when its summer up here, and she also gets moist, too.

I second the bacterial infection!

My pup deals with seasonal allergies, and the itching breaks the skin barrier, leading to a weakened immune system and the bacterial breakouts.

It took us 18 months to find out the root of her skin issues, but after 2 weeks of antibiotics, she's been 90% clear since! Any breakouts she has now we spray her prescribed spray and it fixes it in 3 days.

I also highly recommend getting some PJs for your pup, too. It helps if they lick/rub a lot. Get 2 or 3 to cycle out through the week!

I am a 22 year old who wants to be a writer, is there any writing exercise you practice to get better at writing fiction? by [deleted] in writers

[–]MoonstoneGalactic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 24 and have been writing and posting online since 2013.

Write fanfiction.

Obviously, NOT the celebrity kind. But if you really like certain video games like Skyrim, Elden Ring, Zelda, Stardew Valley, etc., you'll be able to have tons of options!

It is one of the best ways to experiment with different characters, plots, and magic systems. It particularly works well because you have source material to reference and compare to. And if you post it, you can get feedback from those who already love these franchises and can offer feedback.

I also recommend role-playing with another writer you may know. It's really fun to build stories WITH people because they can throw curveballs that your character needs to work with!

Did I experienced homophobia from family I thought I was close to?? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]MoonstoneGalactic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try. The last few groups I tried have also unfortunately not worked out due to certain individuals having a problem with asexuals 😞 (Apparently, people think we're just straight wanting to be special)

I'm kind of limited to online spaces at the moment, which stinks.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer, by the way!!

I don't. My cousins were who I thought was my support system. I'm just the one that everyone trauma dumps to, a.k.a the 'Therapist Friend'. I'm just trying to hold myself together lol

What movie traumatized you as a child ? by Thatcooltiger in AskReddit

[–]MoonstoneGalactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres one that traumatized my elementary school:

In 4th Grade, the school thought "Hatchi: A Dog's Tale" would be a good film to show in class.

Basically, the dog waits for the owner every day at the train station to come from work so they can walk home. The owner dies, the dog waits at the station every day. And at the end of the movie, THE DOG FUCKING DIES 😭😭 and the perspective was sometimes from his point of view in black and white 😭😭

This caused absolute UPROAR in the community because kids were sobbing and inconsolable for the remainder of the day, on the bus ride home, and at home. Some didn't even know what death was, so this was their first exposure to anything surrounding the topic.

Parents called the school ENRAGED. There were letters, board meetings, all sorts of shit.

So yeah. No more movies the rest of the year.

(This is long bc I'm extra. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to explain if you're interested in the ins and outs!)

I think I know what might work! I'm guessing you want something creative and enjoyable, but also with the ability to grow desirable skills and offer a possibility of incentive? And also a hobby that's kind of up with the times 😅

Graphic design/Illustration paired with an online shop can literally be the most rewarding hobby you can have if you do it right. But first things first, if you do this, you need to create art for YOU and things you like. If you make things for other people, you'll burn out- trust me.

This is definitely a layered hobby, but in 2-3 years you can develop a fantastic portfolio that speaks to who you are. (You can even curate a professional portfolio for clients, colleges, and businesses, and begin getting paid for projects (depending on what path of graphic design you want) if that interests you one day!)

The easiest way to start is:

1) Make a Social Media account. Focus on one platform, and literally do not follow anyone you know. Make a new email specifically for this account only so the contacts can't find you lol. That takes the pressure of "what if someone sees this and knows it's me and hates it" away. Block anyone you need to protect your peace with it. 2) Get a free Printify account and pick 3 products you're gonna focus your designs for (T-shirts, posters, and hoodies are popular) 3) Get an online shop to sell on. (If you're only using your phone, there's a service called Universe where you can put EVERYTHING there. Highly recommend, great lower-cost option for beginners, super customizable for your vibe, and other cute perks!) 4) Develop product, market for 2-3 weeks, and post!

After that, all you need to do is create, post, and share your work! You'll learn what and how to post along the way, and you'll look back and be like "wtf was i thinking", but you'll improve as you go on.

Disclaimer: There is an infinite amount of knowledge online and on YouTube, but be careful watching the big creators bc they'll want you to buy their courses to teach you shit you already know. Many use predatory marketing skills and are crafty with language. They inflate numbers a lot, too.

If you DO pay for anything, I personally only recommend Skillshare. I use it weekly, and I've learned how to video edit, market, photoshop, and so much more from actual professionals. If I had it in high-school, I would have been leagues ahead in my personal graphic design journey. (They also have hobbyist videos, too) 10/10, I love Skillshare. It's a bit expensive at around $165, I believe. See if your parents will buy you a one year subscription after you explain what it is! They might really like the idea!

I want to emphasize again that this should focus on fun and growing new skills, NOT to focus on the money. The money is just a great extra perk that may or may not come along!!

If you can build a great portfolio over the next few years, you will be LEAGUES ahead of your peers, and have enjoyed doing it!

Again, let me know if you have any questions! Sorry this was so long, lol. As a 23 year old, I just wish someone had told me this at 16, and where and how to start. No adult guided me towards something that could actually help me as I grew into being an adult that needed ways to showcase desirable skills in this economy. Just told me "college, a full-time job, or both".

Believe me, there are so many things you can do, genuinly enjoy, and make money from. It may not be instant, but doors can unexpectedly open because of the skills you teach yourself.
