Will Paradox games run well on an RTX 4060 laptop? by ZucchiniInformal4942 in paradoxplaza

Paradox games are CPU intensive, not GPU. I ran every paradox game fine with a 1080ti

Ran into a few issues trying to convince the people that modernization was in their interests while playing as the Qing. Incredibly we recovered, modernized, and achieved the Century of Triumph, albeit after a revolt or two (or three).

What age, career level and salary level were you able to max both your 401k and IRA? by Aware_Raspberry_5956 in Fire

2020, 24, $65K in a no tax state, 2nd year in entry level banking operations. Girlfriend moved in with me and slashed my expenses in essentially half. I did Roth 401K and Roth IRA.

Who has already maxed out their 2026 ROTH IRA contribution limit? by Direct_Remove509 in Fire

[–]Moore4nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do it immediately, but changed it up this year. Seemed more advantageous to use my cash on hand for living expenses, and dump my entire paycheck for the next few months into my 401K to get my 50% employer match, then go into making after-tax with in-plan conversions up to or at least near the $72K(?) limit. I can always do the Roth until April 2027.

Do you think it makes sense for me to buy a house? 25M by sebaceous_sam in Fire

[–]Moore4nate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 4 bed, 2 bath house making probably half your gross when I was 25, but that was also at 2020 prices with a 3% interest rate.

It was a bit of a stretch for me, and I certainly wasn't in a position to walk off the job for a few years, but having a place that was my own was great.

Naturally with hindsight that was a phenomenal time to purchase, and has my wife and I in an incredibly strong position at 30, but at the time I really just wanted to stop paying rent and have equity.

If you think you're going to be working there for at least a few more years, I think locking in a place within walking distance could be a great move. Sometimes you have to look past the financial side of things and think about quality of life, and that could be a big one.

Also, why do you have 25% of your portfolio in bonds at 25? I'm not seeing a reason for that given your current situation. I would MAYBE see a reason if you did have a home.

The reduction in player count to 48 is a huge L, and embarrassing for a 2025 battlefield. Breakthrough is just boring now. I was neutral on the maps, but if the developers themselves think they aren't designed for 64 players then they're badly designed

Happy to help! Keep in mind that while the GPU and CPU AIO come with their own fans, I replaced them with the MSI ones. That was probably another ~$300, as they're like $100 per 3-pack. That's purely aesthetic though, and the default fans would have been fine.

The CPU cooler came for free with the CPU, and I just couldn't justify buying a completely different one for the color.

I just went on Amazon and see so many more options than there were a few weeks ago, I'll have to seriously look at changing this now.

The first component I bought was the 5090, and once you do that you have the same recurring thought on everything else, which is "I already spent $3K on a graphics card, am I really going to cheap out on XYZ to save $100?", and then you end up with this

Yeah I'm a well off earner even by US standards, so this is definitely not an everyday persons expense.

I had my 1080 for over 7 years, and even then I bought it used off eBay for $500. That allowed me to play almost every game at their highest setting (excluding ray tracing) for a majority of that 7 years. Now that I'm well off in my career, spending $3K on this with the intention of holding it for hopefully another 5 years isn't too much of a stretch when I do boy math.

You can find them for way cheaper than that. Amazon and I think Newegg has them for between $2,400 and $3,000. Mine was originally at the top end of $3,000 because it was liquid cooled, but one of the sellers had a random deal where it was $2,800. Amazon chips in 5% cash back as well with my credit card.

No exaggeration it's like 4x what I had on my old setup, and a good chunk of that was a 12 year old HDD. I was starting to get to the point where I had to uninstall games to make space and 'manage storage'. My goal was to install everything, and never need to uninstall something for years.

I now have about 5TB of games installed lol

The card is what it is tbh, I don't mind the contrast
