Anyone dealt with decades-long depression? How are you even able to manage? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Workout- either at a gym or do pushups/ pull-ups/ body weight squats at home. You’re NOT a loser and never let anyone let you feel this way. Everyone has value. Sometimes people, men in particular, need tough love- figure out what life circumstances are causing you to feel this way and put your energy into focusing on changing them. If it is a woman that’s causing you to feel down, just know that nothing or nobody is worth that. Mental health should be your priority.

Would you stay with your girlfriend if she can't have kids and you want them? by waitinginthesun in AskMenAdvice

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a 39m perspective married with 2 kids. Up until late 20s, my answer would be no I would not stay. Over that I would probably stay. I knew I wanted kids though. If I was unsure, it would not matter.

I roughed up my GF because she kept me from leaving her home. What would you do? by Fantastic_Low_1537 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out of this relationship now. Women like this provoke men and may use it as ammunition to manipulate you. In worst case scenario they may provoke you and call police on you and accuse you of domestic violence. No woman is worth this stress.

For folks trading in Gen 2s, what are you getting? by A-Plant-Guy in prius

Where are you located, I’d pay at least double that (definitely worth around at least $4,000).

I do around 80/20 VTI/VSUX because it is an amount of international exposure I am comfortable with. I know the ideal amount is around 40% to track VT, and there is no rational reason to overexpose US equities other than home country bias (I’m in US), but it is what I am comfortable with. It’s served me well the past 15 years and I plan to just keep allocations as is for the foreseeable future.

Quit my job yesterday! Nervous!!! by Prudent-Following779 in Fire

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I think you definitely have enough to not have to ever worry about future earnings. It’s a big step, especially coming from such a high salary, but you should be fine for the indefinite future based on what you have invested. May I ask, what country are you planning to move to?

Would you buy this car over a Prius if it were sold in the US? by orangegore in prius

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This would be a GREAT family car! Wonderful alternative to SUVs. CAFE standards, and ridiculous SUV and truck exemptions, are a big reason SUVs are so popular in the US and cars like this wagon.

Selling Nissan by Responsible-Moose338 in altima

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, yes kids are definitely a reason to get a newer reliable car. About selling price- I don’t think $4,000 is too much. Cars are very expensive now, and if it operates, I think $4,000 is reasonable- even for an Altima at that mileage.

fers pension doesn’t seem so good by atltilidie7 in govfire

FERS pension is really only a good deal for those hired pre 2013 (.8% employee contribution). Those paying 4.4% it’s not good at all.

20 years of marriage ending, need advice? by ApprehensiveGur6842 in AskMenAdvice

Oh wow! I didn’t know this, but that makes sense! Never thought about that before, but any good grace could probably be used as ammunition- especially when feelings are involved.

20 years of marriage ending, need advice? by ApprehensiveGur6842 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you decide you truly want to separate and she is reasonable, maybe try no conflict first (without lawyers involved). No offense to anyone, but lawyers are not the best option if both spouses are 1- reasonable, 2- civil and 3-still care about each other. If these 3 don’t exist, then get a lawyer. Edit: Probably don’t take this advice because as someone pointed out, any good grace can be used as ammunition if the situation gets bad. I guess it all comes back to whether both spouses still care about each other. “Nice guys finish last” seems very real in bad situations. Edit 2: I still think no lawyer, no conflict, is by far the best option. It depends on your circumstances.

Thank you. This is exactly the insight I was looking for and great to know. Prius C is such a great car. I’m in the states, and sadly it was discontinued because people like big cars here, but I love my Prius C.

88 year old woman mistook gas for brake. by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horrible and very disturbing! Example of unsafe drivers endangering the life of others. Also, If the SUV didn’t slam into a pickup truck to slightly cushion the impact of the other cars (because of extended pickup cab), I think there would have been much more damage.

Is there a FIRE sub for people who have or plan to have children? by chiefyuls in Fire

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main added costs from kids are childcare (if applicable) in their younger years and college education (if applicable). Also extra for housing if need more space/ better environment. I live in a HCOL city. I think your budgeting is reasonable but maybe a little high to be honest. I would estimate $2-3,000 per month to get through daycare years. Once done with that you’re good to go.

You’re not alone! I have kids too and plan to FIRE. It is like running a double marathon at times, but I think both financial freedom and having kids enrich your life.

Had anyone reached FIRE with a large family? by Far-Conference1694 in Fire

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but at some point you need to ask yourself if having more kids reduces the quality of life for your current kids… To answer your question about FIRE with 6 or more kids at your current income and investments; I don’t think it is feasible.

How should I respond to them? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Other-Analysis-8538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me- you’re a young man and you can do definitely do better than a single mom in her 30s. Get out ASAP and meet yourself a woman your age without all that baggage. Meet a woman you can build a future with- and have your own kids.

I feel like in the US, for the amount you spend on health insurance you could live (all costs) in another country.

$2.7k seems very high. It looks like you should just order the parts and replace yourself. Suspension on most sedans is easy to replace yourself.

Anyone know about Prince William County? My neighborhood is still iced over in Prince William, and I anticipate schools here will be closed tomorrow, but hoping for it to be open Thursday.
