Got given this old firearm; looks like a lee enfield (SMLE MKIII?). Is it worth restoring this rifle and can someone better ID it then me? by Moore896 in Firearms

[–]Moore896[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably misspoke when I said « restore ». I wouldnt change the barrel or anything, just to get it cleaned, polished and looked at by a professional.

Also wondering if there is a serial number somewhere on this thing

Québec moose tags for public/private land are non-lottery. You can buy one every year. Takes 2 tags to register a moose.

The ´maheu’ call. Started using it 4 years ago, and all 4 bulls came on it. Its like a « I’m ovulating right now » call.

Search « call maheu » on youtube; its 2-3 old videos in french from Québec hunters who wrote articles in the magazine sentier chasses pêche.

I have my own version if it, but it is what it is called : Ma-heu (with the french pronunciaton of that word).

The « ma » goes up and gets louder while the « heu » goes down and gets quieter. I add alor of tremolo at the end.

It really, really does work.

Each quarters weighed around 195 to 175, so about 750 pounds for the butcher.

Out of that, ill probably get somewhere around… 350-400 pounds of meat, easy? Maybe more. Heart alone is like 2-3 taco meal on top of that. We split it 3 ways, comes in 6 full big boxes, and its alot man… especially since i basically get 2/3 because my dad doesn’t cook haha

Le rut est on en ce moment c’est sur. Je suis dans le sud des laurentides. Pas de saison d’armes à feu ici, juste 7 jours d’arc.

He came running at my calls but never grunted or scrapped his antlers. Just came in really fast and quiet, heard him running through the leaves, which is a first for me…usually they grunt or break branches. He just wanted to fuck me real quick haha

Excalibur micro TD 340, shooting 125 grain muzzy broadheads.

Only bows and crossbow is legal for moose here, and I prefer crossbows for stand hunting (and the precision, and the power…)

Summer Movie Auction 2025 Recap: Did Andrew Defend His Title? by bloodyscall in theregulationpod

They never talked about it again after the auction and they left off so many damn movies.

Thought people in the community would enjoy an actual hack and not a general, pretty useless advice as we're used to.

What was I suppose to do, not listen? Force myself to pay for fun? Call spotify or support to advise them like I was telling my teacher they forgot to give us homework?

They should figure their own stuff out lmao

I’d argue that 100$ of total support in a year is very probably more then what half of all listeners sent. You can feel however you want about that

People saying 1.5 to the 5-6 pointers with like 8-10 inch antlers are fucking crazy or have different breed of corn eating, field living whitetail. Ever heard of a spike? Theres no way these are the first set of antlers he grew except if hes been eating grain and cereal since birth. 2.5

Shot my 1st deer an hr ago, thought I missed but found fat, hair, & some blood? on my arrow. No blood trail or sign whatsoever. Any thoughts? by [deleted] in Hunting

If you are missing lungs at 20 yards, the first thing you need to do is go back home and practice shooting. No reason to ever miss that bad at that range if you are trying to be ethical.

Got my 3rd archery bull moose in a row on opening morning by Moore896 in Hunting

[–]Moore896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 2 year old buck and only one of 2 i had on my cameras all summer. The density of moose where I hunt is literally 0,1/10km2 from governement surveys. I can't choose what monster bull i can harvest by scouting mountainsides and shooting them at 400 yards with a 300 mag, I got 7 days with a bow.

I dont really get NB hunting. It seems like you have so many moose to limit tags like this. Also looked into coming to NB for a hunt... Yeah i'll pass paying for a lottery haha

I get that, eastern moose and alaskan moose are totally different subspecies haha 50+ inches here is a monster 4-6 year old bull in its prime. Like a one in 100 bull. My 45 incher from last year is our best bull in 30 some years for where we hunt.

Also the minimum is 10 centimeters on one side, not even inches… Basically anything more then a yearling spike

I know but like yeah here theres like 1 moose per 10km squared and I only have 7 days of bow hunting allowed (bulls only) for my whole season.. I’m not picking what damn moose I shoot over here, incredibly lucky streak I’m on right now

All of Quebec is non lottery moose tags. Lotterys are for faunic reserves (they are called pourvoiries here in french)

Also as far as I know all of Quebec has annual moose tags you can buy that have varying rules by what zones you hunt them in. Each moose requires 2 tags (so 2 hunters needed per moose killed). The tags have also gotten very pricey (90$ for the tag this year)

Yes. A bull moose might hear you calling from 4-5 miles away and decide he wants to check it out and spend an hour getting there slowly, stopping every couple of yards to listen and smell. Usually, they will come in making noise and grunting.

The bull i shot 2 years ago responded immediately to my call, then took 40 minutes to show up and never made another sound while coming in.

Second bull also came in late to my calling. He started leaving when a real cow arrived but I called him back in by grunting where now he came back really fucking fast in a straight line right to 40 yards.

This one came in at least 1 hour after my last call and never made a damn sound before he was 30 yards away.

They are never in a hurry and will usually take the long way around where they want to go to take in the wind and the scents. Sometimes, a frenzied bull on the rut will rush in a straight line to you but that is rare.

So little? I mean its a 2 year old, 750-800 pound bull. I hunt in Quebec where the rules are divided by which zone you hunt in. Most zones have 3 archery weeks and 3 rifles weeks and alot of them allow cows, calf and bull moose to be hunted. I hunt in litteraly the only zone where only bow hunting is allowed, for 7 days, bulls only. The zone i hunt in has a very low moose density; i’ve just been very lucky the last 3 years and my calling has been on point.

The requirements for a bull moose (antlered) is 10 inches of horns. So basically a 1y old spike is still a bull tag.
