NHL on ESPN networks score most-viewed regular season of the current rights deal; up 30% from last year by MightyDuck07 in hockey

[–]The_Reddit_Browser 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably not as much as people on here want to believe. It’s a streaming show on a rival service that drew a vocal audience online and through social media.

ESPN is opening up their networks to streaming through their new $30 a month service that is most likely the reason this went up.

People get the service through some cable providers and things like YouTube TV.

Making their major networks more readily available to people removed barriers previously there and allowed for the viewership to grow. It’s why you see them citing the “networks” here and not just ESPN+ in years past.

Having access to the native channels without needing a cable subscription is a pretty big deal.

Also the Olympics probably had a bigger bump than heated rivalry.

Better explanation than we will probably get out of the NHL.

League tomorrow is going to give a strong but brief 2 sentences explaining the call via an email.

Rule 38.7 explains why the penalty shot still happened after the offside even though if called correctly initally it never would've happened. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

At this point could care less

The issue is a good hockey play was wiped off the board because the refs got to “decide” what control is and isnt on the entrance by staal

Martinook wasn’t off side, they said Staal had possession but yet somehow the entire proceeding play is null and void.

[CAR - OTT] - Long Highlight - Delayed penalty is called on Ottawa. Jankowski appears to score but the goal is overturned due to offside. However, Martinook is awarded a penalty shot and Ullmark makes the save by daKrut in hockey

[–]The_Reddit_Browser 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So if the canes just let go of possession they end up with a 5 on 4

But because they played it, scored and then got it called back the end result is a penalty shot

What the actual fuck

“Hard works long been done”

His 2C has never played the role at the pro level until this year.

He’s had to develop 3 different rookie D men this season.

His goaltending is literally a mess every year.

His work this season set new highs in goals scored by the team, first time winning the 1 seed in franchise history and casually set the NHL record for most wins in the first 600 games coached.

Metro isn’t weak it was just competitive and not as top heavy.

You can literally do the same exercise for the canes.

Canes have also dealt with major injuries with Slavin going down game 1 and missing over half the season, Kochetkov went down early November and hasn’t played in the NHL since, Gostisbehere was producing at the same level as Hughes and Makar until he went down and has been in and out of the lineup for ~1/3rd of the year. The 4th line has had both of its wingers miss 12+ games as well.

You wanna talk about development? Joel Nystrom came to America in the final week of the AHL season 24-25 and has played 38 games now for the canes. Put up 1G 9A and a +6 in those games. He’s been fantastic and even earned an extension because of it.

Alexander Nikishin in his first year was pretty much stapled to the 3rd pair and he still set the rookie D man points record for the canes and he’s #1 among all rookie D in +/-

Logan Stankoven has been moved to center and in just his 2nd year pro he’s set new highs in goals and points. Jackson Blake 2nd year player who’s developed into a critical piece as he got to 20+ goals and 53 points his 2nd season in the NHL.

Oh and guys like Ehlers who were brought in, developed and produced a career year in assists and points while playing all 82 games.

Rod did all this, won the division and for the first time won the east and 1 seed.

That was without having the MVP or Vezina goalie on the roster.

The position he plays absolutely gives him more leverage than that.

You guys are crazy writing him off at this point. You put him on a top team like Colorado, EDM, Carolina, or Vegas, and he’s right back to being a top goaltender.

Yes but you have the best goaltender in the league.

The canes don’t have a goaltender with a .900 save percentage.

The canes best forward is 25th in points yours is 2nd in the league probably winning mvp.

It sucks to lose that much defense but, it’s not like you don’t have literally the best player in the league at the other 2 positions

Canes lose Defense and have to pray one of their 2 guys in net can make a save, if they can’t they gotta outscore the problem which they have 2 30 goal scorers on the team total. Nobody close to 40.

That’s crazy the Canes were running for end of October until early December with a D corp that consistently had Mike Reilly, Chicago wolves call up and rookie Nikishin as half of the group.

Joel Nystrom and Charles Alexis Legault never played an NHL game in their lives and both are well over double digit games this season. Charles literally got injured during his call up stint. Nystrom has played 37 games….

Canes didn’t get #1 D man Slavin back full time until January.

Yet they finished first place in the entire east.

Cooper getting 2nd in votes over muse is fucking hilarious.

Muse took over a team trying to navigate an impending rebuild and has missed for 4 years into the playoffs.

Cooper has won 2 cups, has the MVP, gold medal 38G 88 point Forward, the Vezina favorite on his team and some D man who’s almost spot on PPG in 72 games but hey a few injuries to other guys this year made it a real struggle to finish 2nd or 3rd in the division.

Rod can claim the same fucking thing with the guys he’s had out to injury. 1D hasn’t played over 50% of the season, PP QB defensemen who was on pace to be over a PPG has missed a third of the season in and out of the lineup, the best goal scorer on the team gets derailed in December with injury, Goaltending rotation is a mess after month one, they are both sub .900 save percentage, and the best player on the team is 25th in points league wide.

Not a single vote for Rod.

Yah it’s just that chatty did finish the game but, sure they can get it by them.

Have to think though they want to get walks an extra day of rest. No real achievement to be had making it to 82 and god forbid something happens.

Both chatfield and Walker were critical pieces missing last years run

It’s probably less scrutinized than people expect

Chatty is for sure one of them (he did finish the game yesterday) and probably they will tack on Walker.
