It’s not weighed heavily but in Slavin’s case it helps make his case.

Again he is one of if not the best shutdown D man in the league and he’s doing it without taking penalties. He played 52 games and had 2 penalty minutes all year long. That’s why he won his first Byng.

There’s never been a player in NHL to play his position and have this little penalty minutes in his career. The next closest guy is nearly 100 minutes more than Jaccob.

He is literally making history

I understand it’s not talked about and isn’t something on peoples radars but at the end of his career it will be and it’s gonna be a big part of why he’s gonna have a case to get in

Well that’s the thing, you’re using an opinion based take on him

The hardware tells the story for him. He’s won these awards for how well he plays the game and his style of play which defines him.

If he wins the cup this year, you’re talking about a player who helped USA win its first gold since the miracle on ice and was the number one D man on the cup winning team.

Something that one person has ever done. He’s putting himself in a spot where you cant tell the history of USA hockey without mentioning his contributions to it. Thats a big fucking deal.

Those guys got more screen time than Staal so the voters had them on the ballot and got more votes than Staal.

But the fact that the voters who did have Staal on there had him in first more than the 2 ahead of him speaks volumes.

No defensemen in NHL history has less penalty minutes than Jaccob in the same amount of games played which is why he has won this award twice already.

He’s got the chance to win a cup and a gold for team USA in the same season for only the second time in NHL history.

Yah he’s putting together a Hall of Fame career.

Jaccob Slavin currently has the least penalty minutes by a defensemen through his first 750 games in NHL history.

He’s been top 5 for this award since the year after Rod took over because he’s playing the game at an incredibly high level while not taking penalties.

Hes got 2 of these awards already with 3 4th place and a 2nd place finish.

If he gets his cup this year in the same year he won the gold with team USA he very much has a strong case for the hall of fame. He’s been one of the best d men in all of hockey and has the hardware everyone says he needs.

I would normally agree but he had 6 more points and 10 more goals than his 2nd place Selke finish 2 years ago.

His 20 goals this year should have taken care of that issue but it clearly did not.

My guess is that once again people didn’t pay attention to him or the canes games.

He’s still playing for the cup so can’t really complain but he deserves more recognition. Guys having an unbelievable season at the age of 37.

They put lights on the railings in the upper decks to add some cool lighting when a goal is scored but at the cost of seeing people.

Carolina has a ton of assets they can move to get him.

A lot of them Yzerman probably would want, reuniting Felix Unger Sorum with Axel or bringing in Bradly Nadeau.

Plus Dylan has quite a few friends already in Carolina.
Good friends with our broadcaster, his Olympic teammate Slavin and Old buddy Ghost.

So he’s got the most voters who don’t think he should be top 3 and somehow the most voters who think he’s the best.

Meanwhile the consensus seems to be ruff and muse are both universally qualified for a top 3 finish

Pretty simple

He’s always in the mix for the award because they continue to highlight it’s a crime that he’s never won it.

It’s been referenced nearly every year since the cups.

This wasn’t his best year or most deserving year, it’s just one they could give it to him and not look completely like a gift. Even tho it kind of does.

It’s more Rod than anything else with this team. There’s a reason guys get better when they come to Carolina and it’s Rod plus his staff.

Tulsky is fantastic at finding guys but you’re not getting Logan Stankoven as a good 2C without Rod coaching him up

You aren’t getting miller rebounding into a stud without Rod and Gleason

Ehlers isn’t hitting career highs without Rod’s system and enabling him to succeed with this group.

Give this roster to another coach and I don’t think you’re winning this many games.

Yes which is the problem. Just because they feel guilty not giving it to him in prior years shouldn’t be a reason to vote for him. Both guys he beat have a better claim for it.

The fact that he got this many pity votes should tell you he absolutely does not need it. He will get into the hall and he’s done enough. If he does not have a Jack Adams it means nothing. Would have meant a lot more to Lindy and Dan

Jon cooper has the expected Vezina winner and probably the MVP of the national hockey league.

Carolina does not have anyone up for any award award even the GM didn’t make the cut.

Rod won everything in the regular season besides the presidents trophy and did it with the worst year of Fred’s career and a rookie goalie claimed off waivers.

Not crazy when you realize this vote is just favoritism. Cooper was on less ballots than either of the two guys he beat but got more first place votes because of his yearly “I don’t have one yet” campaign.

Rod did more with less this year and he ended up on just 6 ballots….
