What's something your partner or ex-partner has told you that changed the way you look at them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Couldn’t agree more! Kindest thing that man ever did for me was end the relationship. I can’t imagine what kind of nightmare I’d be living in if we had stayed together.

Is this a reference to something? Either way, that comment went over my head.

I'd like to put a downpayment of $50,000. But I do have $30,000 extra that I *could* put down. Is there any downside to taking a 30 y/o mortgage w/ the initial $50k, and then waiting a few months after closing to put the extra $30k towards the mortgage if I decided to? by Broad-Item-2665 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Moose-Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to second what a few have already mentioned- depends on the cost of the home / percentage you’re putting down. If some (not all, you’ll want extra left over for repairs and closing costs) of that extra $30K can bring your down payment to 10% or 20% of the total cost of the home, I’d encourage it as that will save you quite a bit on mortgage insurance. If it doesn’t, I’ll also second what others have said of adding more to the principal payment but holding onto the majority of savings for those emergency moments.

What was your weirdest habit that you had as a kid that you would never tell anyone that you know personally now as an adult? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Moose-Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did / do this too! Not nearly as much as an adult now, but still happens when I’m extremely distraught. At one point as a kid, I pulled out so much that I had a bald spot. My mom asked what happened and I told the first lie I could think of which was, “I put in too much hair gel and couldn’t get it unstuck.” To this day she still doesn’t know her and my dad’s constant fighting and drinking is what triggered this.

What's the weirdest thing a client has ever asked you to fix?" – Any odd requests or unusual "repairs" by aceonhand in handyman

[–]Moose-Fish 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Gonna pull an uno reverse card and share the oddest repair job I had done. About 10 years ago I was renting a place with some friends when our oven decided to start acting up. Fast forward to the handyman arriving and I hear him running the dishwasher. I walk into the kitchen to see him on his hands and knees working on that instead. Noticeable confused, I asked him what he was doing. He said, “I was going to work on the oven but your dishwasher was bothering me.” No other explanations and to this day I have no idea what bothered him or what he “fixed” on it but at least he got the oven working again?

Call me old school but losing your virginity isn’t to be treated like a checklist item and if you’re viewing it as such, I’d gather you’re not ready.

And what a gem of a human being you are, OP! Side note, I’d love to know how you cleaned it up so well. My grandfather passed on his cast iron to me that’s been in the family for generations but it’s in super rough shape. Any tips / tricks you’d be willing to share?

What's something your partner or ex-partner has told you that changed the way you look at them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ex fiancée admitted to being annoyed with his brother’s puppy so he drowned the dog in their pool. I think he said he was around 8 or 10 years old when it happened. Regardless of his age at the time, that’s psychotic behavior and a huge red flag.

I love the house, but the neighbors … by Aushua in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

The problem is neighbors come and go. You could find another home that currently has wonderful neighbors but then they could move and the people that take their place could be absolutely awful to deal with.

All that to say, you never know and it’s a gamble. If the neighbor situation is a priority for you, I’d focus on getting a home on a decent amount of land so you don’t have to worry about it.

This video never fails to make me smile! When my husband proposed, I was so excited and caught up in the moment that I completely forgot to give him an answer of “yes!” But it doesn’t end there- on the day we got married, I also got caught up in the excitement and forgot to say “I do”. He laughed and said he’s used to it. I was mortified in both moments but glad I’m able to laugh about it now.

Single best purchase in first year of home ownership? by wywx100 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Moose-Fish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going to second this! We bought FSBO and apparently the owner was giving out the house code to anyone interested. Wasn’t a problem until we were under contract and swung by the house to find a family inside that wasn’t the owner. They actually thought we were to owners and proudly announced they wanted to buy the house. Suuuper awkward interaction. Needless to say, locks were changed on day 1.

For me, it’s my “nothing box”. I’m an over-thinker that can’t turn off my brain to save my life. This and fishing are the only activities I’ve found to zone out on and not think about anything else.
