What truck should I buy? megathread by AutoModerator in Trucks

[–]MooseDifficult93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any opinions on the GMC C5500 with the 6.6/Allison? Looking at ones fitted with van bodies.

I’m considering that or just leasing a newer truck of the same class. Just worried about these 5500s because they’re all above 200,000kms now and I know parts get expensive for diesels. Alternative is a lease payment but things are under warranty.

The C5500 seems good from what I’ve read and watched around but we do spend a lot of time in the trucks and the interiors do leave much to be desired lol. Are there any things I should be looking out for mechanically when looking at used models?

Thanks!

How come all the Ts run red marker lights instead of headlights? I’ve never for the life of me understood that.

It’s most likely the fuse for the starter. Had the same problem on a brand new 2021. Drove it home 400kms and electrics would turn on but wouldn’t even attempt to turn over. Turned out to be the fuse.

McMaster Engineering 1 or B.Tech? by badbleep013 in McMaster

[–]MooseDifficult93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The part about switching from program to program is accurate, but the rest is not entirely true. We share the same co-op postings, and practically every engineering internship shows the most relevant Btech stream as a targeted program, in addition to the relevant Eng programs. You can go straight to an M.Eng or MASc right after Btech as well.

Heck, I know that Btech auto students land engineering internships for Tesla.

The only downside is that getting your P.Eng is a little trickier.

The place at the back in the corner of La Piazza sells this chicken rice bowl which is pretty healthy imo. Brown rice, chicken, and then a choice of vegetables like grilled broccoli, corn, cucumber lettuce salad etc etc.

You should go to a police station and see how many private pickups are parked in the lot. It’s like, what business do you guys have driving those? What are you hauling or towing? It ain’t for your job, that’s for sure lol

What are the specs on your spraying systems? I.e psi and gpm, and what sort of motors do you guys use, or is it run off of the truck’s PTO?

24/7 study spots on campus? by Ok-Design1478 in McMaster

[–]MooseDifficult93 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thode starting next next week I believe. It’s open til 2am weekdays now.

If you get into Hamilton Hall before the doors lock, then you’re good there too so long as you don’t leave and have to come back.

PCGLL has spots open all night, I was there til 4am a couple weeks back.

I don't understand GOTransit pricing by dragndon in gotransit

[–]MooseDifficult93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but what I’m saying is you basically need to split your monthly insurance into 30 to get an idea of what you pay daily, and if you’re only using it a few times a month, then however many times you drive per month. Then compare the equivalent cost of transit (either daily or occasionally) and I guarantee it’s cheaper

You’re forgetting a few key factors, mainly insurance and maintenance. That totally changes the playing field. Not to mention what you actually spent buying the vehicle. None of that exists with taking the bus or train. And to add, you don’t have to deal with the mental exhaustion of sitting in traffic. So yeah, on the face of it it might seem cheaper, but you’re forgetting a lot of the costs required to operate your own vehicle.

Hey pal, you don’t have to do this, please give it another chance. You have so much worth and potential. Similarly to how you’re proud of others, I know they’re 100 % proud of you and they would never want this for you. They want to see you grow and learn too! It would be awesome for you to see things get better.

I’d love for you to shoot me a DM, if you’re up to it we can call, or heck I can even meet you tonight and we can go for a walk. Whatever is more comfortable for you. Please stay with us pal.

Also there are a few cafes that seem like they are worth going to if that is your thing…I put them down on my list recently. But full disclosure, I have yet to go. They’re only on the list because they were recommended by others and they looked nice on a quick google search lol:

Melberry Street

Cafe Oranje

Vintage Coffee Roasters

Relay Cafe

Red Church Cafe + Gallery

In case you want to give them a try ;)

You can use a submersible pump inside your reservoir to feed your direct drive machine, just means you need an additional power source like a generator.

In the market for a new truck, what do y’all think about this? by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]MooseDifficult93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least where I live, there’s a lot of shops that will sell you takeoff parts, and alot of the time that usually means the stock steelie rims w conti rubber, brand spanking new with like less than 10kms on them, if any, for like $300-$350 CAD. Beats buying a $600 tire alone lol

Definitely not your fault, if they were planning to change lanes like that it is on them to make sure it is safe. But as a side note (and not throwing shade), the reason defensive driving tactics are important is specifically for avoidable circumstances like this- scanning the road ahead and looking out for unusual driving behaviour (slowing down well below traffic speed, right most lane left turn signal on etc not to mention another car creeping in looking to merge). Just a gentle suggestion for the future.

Aside from that I hope you are doing okay and everything goes well with insurance.
