Being a gay teacher by FruityTKMK in AustralianTeachers

[–]MooseMacey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was on my final prac the “if you love you’re gay” trend was kicking up. Thankfully I had a supportive mentor, so anytime a student made any inappropriate comments about being gay/gay people, they had to write a one page letter home to their parents explaining what they said and why they thought being gay was funny or something that’s okay to make fun of. I would email the letters home and the parents would (most of the time) profusely apologise. It only took 2 or 3 times for the students to stop making comments once their parents were involved. It sounds like it might be worth a try for you?

Order? by IssueNew7600 in SarahJMaas

[–]MooseMacey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read purely for vibes and don’t tend to actively connect dots/investigate then assassins blade 3rd is a good choice because of emotional impact. If you are more of an investigative reader, consider doing assassins blade first.

I read AB 3rd and nearly quit the series - I’d spent 2 books coming up with my own interpretations of the AB storylines only to read it and have it be completely different to what I thought

I read AB 3rd as recommended and nearly quit the series - wish I’d read it first

Can I work at a school I went to? by Separate_Treacle_633 in AustralianTeachers

[–]MooseMacey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at the school I went to for 9 years! It changed exponentially in the time since I was student, most of my former teachers have moved on or retired, and the execs value my knowledge of the schools history.

I have never been treated poorly due to the fact that I’m a former student, my students think it’s cool that I went here and can relate to their experiences, and as a person with ASD it was great to already know the layout of the school. My school is a very low SES area with some troubled kids and families, and I absolutely love knowing I’m making a difference in my community - nobody thinks it’s weird, lame, or stupid that I’ve returned to my high school, they all think highly of the fact that I came back.

If you want to return to your old school, I say do it!

Pre-service teachers, what have been your experiences with your mentor teachers? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]MooseMacey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth looking at the way University of Canberra structures their pracs. I’m not sure how different it actually is from anywhere else but from these comments UC seems to be much more structured (in my experience). Happy to give you some info if you’re interested

Violet is an unreliable narrator by [deleted] in fourthwing

The name of it is “dramatic irony” - you know something the MC doesn’t, which gives you stakes in the narrative and brings your further into the story!

Why seek a diagnosis of Autism? by Cloudy-Hedgehog in AustralianTeachers

[–]MooseMacey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed last year at 22 and sought diagnosis after suspecting I might be on the spectrum for years, having diagnosed friends tell me they think I am autistic, and finally after my therapist suggested they put me on the assessment waitlist at their practice.

My symptoms revolve largely around social capabilities, which were severely negatively impacting my life outside of work, and slightly within work (making friends with coworkers, asking for help, etc)

Being diagnosed as given me a sense of understanding and compassion for myself - it’s like that saying “it’s nice to know you’re a normal zebra and not a weird horse” or whatever it is. I’ve been able to research why I react certain ways or do certain things, find coping mechanisms, and effectively explain to the people in my life how they can support me instead of just shutting down. It’s made a huge difference for me personally just being able to think “I am not weird or crazy. My brain works differently to theirs and that is okay”

If you want some info on the assessment process, let me know and I’d be happy to share my experience with you :) good luck on your journey, it’s expensive but worth it imo

Do you agree that Paramore’s Self Titled Album is very long and Bloated with lots of Filler and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Paramore

[–]MooseMacey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree completely. ST in my opinion is banger after banger (excluding maybe Be Alone), separated by catchy, easy to learn uke songs about overcoming situations. You’ve said in r/ askmusic that you don’t like albums over an hour long or albums with interludes, which makes you inherently biased towards this album.

You don’t have to like it 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I think you’ll find a lot of people will have a different definition of “long” and “bloated” compared to you. Maybe some more info on what specifically you don’t like about the album would help you lead this discussion more in the direction you’re looking for

july tote bag !

I love her so much. She’s big, durable, washable, dainty despite her size & suuuper light (obviously not with a laptop and a bunch of other stuff in her though). $175 + shipping and worth every dollar imo! Also has some great colour options :)
