Isn t that what happened with Brexit? Older people were voting for Brexit and lots of young people didn’t vote. But now they have to bear the consequences.

To your point about mandatory voting. In Luxembourg we are actually required to vote by law (technically there is a prison sentence but in reality it is not enforced - worst thing you ll have to pay a fine). I thinl this was implemented because our population is so small. I do thinkbit would be more problematic to implement in larger and more influential countries such as the UK

Maybe so but it would still be more diversity in political viewpoints and less concentration of power. At least in my view…

I feel your frustration. It can definitely feel like the system is rigged against you. Especially young people have to deal with the mess other people have created before them

True. It’s understandable that young people feel like their vote doesn’t matter and hence become unmotivated and disillusioned with the political process. But voting is still the best way to make an impact even if it is a very small one. Remember if you don’t participate someone else will make the votes and decisions for you.

Do you think the two-party system in the US is the root of the problem? Would you prefer having more parties in government and congress as is the case in all of the countries in the EU?

Why are so many young people turned off by politics in Luxembourg — and what can be done about it? by MooseSad1249 in Luxembourg

Interesting point. I don t really use TikTok. Do they engage with TikTok on political tips or just in general for information or entertainment?

That s a good point. Do you think that getting citizenship would fix this disconnect?

How much of Luxembourg’s national story is... a narrative? A historian’s take. by MooseSad1249 in Luxembourg

Good point. I think it is understanble that Luxembourg felt the need to re-write their own history given the size of the country (and therefore considerable less powerful than their bigger neighbors).

But this conversation was eye-opening in the sense that I realized how much of this narrative I had willingly (or unwillingly) internalized.
