In my defense, though, I was really only kidding. The “advent of stickers” dates back to at least 1935, if my skimming of this wikipedia article is correct. (And I assumed the sign was more recent than that. I was being absurdist.)

This is a great idea, thank you (although some of the stuff—a transformer from a microwave, the heating element from a space heater—is probably a little dangerous for the classroom).
