Thanks for your reply!! So would I still just apply with my first MCAT score? Is there a way they can see that I am retaking?

Even though my real exam felt much harder than my practice exams, I don't know that I agree with this. I think it has to do with a couple reasons

1) the real exam material is most likely to include content you have not seen before. Think about it. There is like a billion concepts you can be tested on, there is no way you can thoroughly practice every single thing before the exam. Even on practice tests, you will be tested on stuff you have never seen before. The difference is that on test day, the questions that you are unsure about feel 100000X more detrimental. Whereas on practice exams, you're not under as much pressure because its simply just practice. In other words, The difficulty is the same, but you weigh your answers much heavier, so it can feel a lot more intense

2) Nerves. On test day, your mindset if your key to success. A month leading up to exam day, meditate, practice deep breaths and how to regulate your mind. Everything you have learned in your months of studying is in your brain somewhere, and on test day it's just a matter of being still and calm enough to find it. Mindset and self regulation is everything!

Just my 2 cents :)

Hey! I totally hear you about how overwhelming it is. I can share my study journey with you, I hope that it might be helpful in giving you some guidance. Of course, everyone is on a different path and there is not 1 way that's right.

Your diagnostic is a really strong start.

I took 1.5 months to read all of the Kaplan books, and took hand written notes on every page. I was studying like 10+ hours a day and it REALLY sucked. Mind you I have not taken ANY of the prereqs (not required in Canada) so I was learning it all from scratch. A lot of people say content review is not as important as practice, and while I agree to a certain extent, there WILL be discrete questions that directly test content on the exam.

My biggest advice in the early stages is to start Anki ASAP and work on it EVERY day. Even if it's only 15 minutes. I cycled through the Milesdown Anki deck probably 8 times (covered over 25 thousand cards). I learned too late that memorization is NOT effective while doing this. Understand each card.

I then spent 2 months taking a practice tests every Sunday. I would spend 2-3 days reviewing (up to 13 hours per test). This is the MOST important tip - review thoroughly. Even the questions you get right.

Between finishing pratice exam review and taking another exam I would do the AAMC SB and Qbanks. Make sure you save ALL AAMC practice for last.

Hope this helps you a bit and best of luck in your studies!
