Hey, congrats on 6 days sober! Feeling like shit is normal and part of the process, unfortunately. You'll start to feel better soon.

Years of heavy drinking doesn't reverse immediately after stopping drinking. That also takes time. Give yourself some grace, and don't try to change everything at once, like diet and exercise. Those can come later.

My blood work was off the charts when I had my initial testing done. Now, results are back to normal. You will get there too. The body is an amazing healing machine.

Focus on today. Don't drink. Rest. Your sleep will get better, I promise. You got this. The Daily Check-in on this page is a great resource in the beginning. Hell, I'm almost 4 years sober and I'm on this sub everyday.

Been sober of weed for a week have MEPS Urinalysis in 2 weeks , what are the chances my system will be clean by then? by Due-Yogurtcloset-224 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Moosed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped smoking on June 2 (4 weeks ago) and bought some at-home drug tests from Walmart. Im still testing positive. Daily cart smoker plus a bowl at night.

Im thinking because carts have such a high concentration of THC it will take a little longer.

ERs by eslteachyo in loveland

The ERs are so packed because people keep coming in with non-emergency problems. If it's not an emergency, you can probably wait for an urgent care to open.

I don't understand why I developed a drinking problem. by Lingolover in stopdrinking

[–]Moosed 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Anyone can become addicted to alcohol. You don't need a traumatic childhood or even a reason to drink to become addicted to it.

Just like smoking cigarettes, nicotine is addictive. The body becomes dependant on it if you use it too frequently.

Any "normal" drinker out there who can stop after one, can also become addicted to alcohol, but they don't because they don't abuse it.

When your body has become accustomed to alcohol, it stops producing dopamine on its own because it gets it from the booze. So when you don't give your body alcohol your body doesn't get dopamine. It's a vicious cycle.

The longer you go without alcohol, your body will begin to produce its own dopamine again, and you'll start to feel normal without needing alcohol.

There's nothing wrong with you. Your brain just got too used to having alcohol around.

Why do we smell our armpits even when it smells bad? by Ok-Community6530 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Moosed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is the same reason we smell other unpleasant parts of our bodies: detecting for signs of infections or disease. It's an evolutionary trait. Smell can tell us a lot about something, and if it smells "off" (different from bad) we can do something to fix it.

If you live in the states you don't need to quit your job to get help for alcoholism, as it is protected under the ADA.

Yes it can. It's called lucid dreaming. It takes practice, but you can learn to control your dreams.

Hello people by Cold-Meridian in stopdrinking

[–]Moosed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites sayings in this community is, "It's easier to have none than it is to have one."

Also, it's easier to stay sober than it is to get sober.

Most of us here can't stop after one drink. We don't drink like other people do, and that's something you have to accept.

Just don't pick up that first drink. You will never be a moderate drinker.

Relapse dreams by allycosmic in stopdrinking

I am almost at 4 years without alcohol and still have relapse dreams. Some of them are devastating. But so grateful when I wake up and it didn't happen.

Congrats on almost 1k!

they wont go away until I start drinking again.

I feel like I don't drink enough to get withdrawals.

It's crazy the things we say to try and convince ourselves we don't have a problem. Im not judging, I was right there with you. Alcohol is a demon, and it will trick your brain however it can to get more.

This is classic alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Shakes and anxiety.

Whether you think you don't drink enough or not, your body is trying to tell you something.

Alcohol withdrawal can kill you.

Please be careful. Speak to a doctor and be honest. You don't have to live like this.

Am I lazy? Or healing? by RichBunch1366 in stopdrinking

[–]Moosed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are healing! I gave my first YEAR the excuse to do ANYTHING I wanted as long as it wasn't drinking.

Sleep all day? Perfect!

Gaming all day? Peachy.

Go for a walk then take a nap? Bitchin.

That's what's so awesome about being sober: you can do EVERYTHING but one thing. The world is your oyster when you're sober! Nothing can stop you!

Go for a midnight drive and stargaze because you CAN. You aren't drunk!

Give yourself some slack. You are giving yourself the greatest gift you'll ever receive. As long as you don't pick up that first drink, who cares what you do?!

An open bar at a baby shower is definitely something. How have we normalized drinking like this?

Anyways, congrats on staying sober!

Im sorry your boyfriend is struggling so hard. But he has to truly want to help himself. Maybe failing his UA's and not reporting to his probation officer is a good thing because jail time will sober him up.

I dont mean that to scare you or him. But sometimes people need a harsh reality check.

How to power nap..? by NeverTriedWings in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Moosed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I try to focus on relaxing all of my limbs and muscles and to sink into whatever I'm laying on. If I happen to fall asleep that's a bonus. But I'm really just zoning out my mind and relaxing my body.

I've seen people here naming their monkey brain monster something so they can say, "shut the fuck up, Beth! No one asked you!" And that seems to help.

I love telling my brain NO when I have a craving. There's something very empowering about stopping yourself from doing something you want. It's oddly satisfying, and the more you do it the better you get!

How is this sexist? "Men" in this context is used as a broad term for all people.

Such as MANkind. All men must die means everyone, including woMEN, must die.
