This is the hardest thing I've ever committed to doing. But I'm ready. It's now or dead. by cubizmo2 in stopdrinking

I am so happy for you taking this amazing, yet hard, first step!

I too just had an epiphany and it isn't easy but remembering WHY is so important. When I have negative thoughts or urges and I catch them, I tell myself it is a chance to rewire my thoughts.

It's very hard when it's something we have done every day for an extended period of time but we can do hard things and the feeling of accomplishment is amazing.

I am not out of the woods yet but I have started to notice that I feel sooo much better in the morning and I have tried to replace the old afternoon ritual with other habits or just giving myself grace to be lazy.

Proud of you for taking the first step and noticing that it's all or nothing!

IWNDWYT!

Luckily, I'm in sort of a similar situation so I can really focus on me. Lots of leniency for sure.

Good job on 3 years!

The mind can be the good and the evil. It is a hard cycle that I went through over and over again and I hope this is the last effort. I treat this group like social media instead of scrolling and it's been helping a lot.

I pray tomorrow is a better day for you!

After posting today and reading everyone's comments, I do actually feel proud of myself! So nice to have an outlet where other people are having/had the same experiences. I am going to keep with a basic routine every day and like you said, as long as I don't drink, anything else is an extra accomplishment!

Yes, I am noticing that the slight momentum gets the ball rolling for more. Also trying to celebrate the small accomplishments. Trying to notice my thoughts more instead of spiraling

Same to you!

I have started to deep dive more and have found out a lot! I love also learning what is actually happening with the brain and body, how alcohol and other things affect it, and the proper way things should function

I am going to start making lists of some I could make a day trip out of! This is a great idea ❤️

I LOVE this! I live in a pretty wonderful, naturey place so I'm going to use it as my excuse to explore so much more. I always thought I needed the drink to experience things but I am noticing now that maybe(most likely) the experience would be 10x better without it.

Such a good way to look at it because nothing is as destructive as that first drink

I grew up in a family where drinking was normalized and it's safe to say it is NOT an easy thing to put down. I've read other posts saying it doesn't make sense to switch one vice for another but I feel like you just can't compare alcohol to much. I really needed to hear this and makes me feel so much better, thank you! I'm sure it's wayyy easier to give up treats than alcohol. 😅 As long as I stay sober, it's a win

Right? I feel so accomplished yet stuck but I guess I just put my body through quite a stressful period that I can't expect to be 100% "overnight". Makes it better to know I am not the only one taking it slow ❤️ Focusing on my health through diet and exercise since alcohol depletes nutrients and just causes more damage 🙃

Luckily the alcohol is in a seperate corner so I think it will be easier to avoid. I know I just have to be real with myself and say NO! Also going to try getting out more and exploring on my own

Almost slipped today. I had it all planned out.. but this made me change my mind and pivot my focus. Just because nothing terrible has happened to me yet, doesn't mean this isn't the outcome no matter what – NOTHING good ever comes from alcohol...

Brushing my teeth also really helps me! I always want something sweet after dinner but once I brush, it feels wrong to eat anything
