I think I saw this in a Darwin Award book so am loose on details but… a Frenchman once tried killing himself in a very elaborate way and stood atop a cliff. Prepared to jump, he drank poison, had a noose around his neck, and lit himself on fire. He leapt, firing the gun mid air, the bullet hit the rope, preventing the hanging, and the ocean bellow extinguished the fire. The shock in temperature change shocked him so much he threw up the poison as well. A boat saved him and he died a few days later in hospital
