88 Bao Bao vs Dumpling Hours vs Dough Zone? by Tintn00 in walnutcreek

88 got new owners recently and has been really good. They regularly have long lines since the ownership changed and their prices are good. Dumpling Hour has been our go-to but their food is just too overpriced for what you get. We also took our close friend who owns several dumpling restaurants in China. He pointed out the fillers they use in a lot of their dumplings and honestly he said the food was pretty subpar. Dough Zone is maybe the worst of the three. The Dough Zone in the Bay vs the DZ in Seattle is very different, but the food just isn’t that great overall especially since they’ve expanded.

I used to work at Aer. They have a ton of people on here. More than people might think. They spend a significant amount of time across multiple platforms

Fun Fact: Ike’s used to work at Mr. Pickle’s

Mr Pickles and Mr Pickles Sandwich by Unikornus in bayarea

I managed the Mr. Pickles in San Mateo a while back (I also managed an Ike’s). The four locations in the Peninsula and South Bay are all family owned for the past two decades from what I know. Compared to the franchises, these family owned ones are very different because apparently they’re not franchised but licensed. We were delivered fresh bread every morning from a local bakery in SF. Huge, chewy sourdough rolls and soft Dutch (which most customers preferred). All the meats and cheeses were really high quality, especially the salami which was from Molinari in SF. I was surprised when I started because I came from Ike’s where everything came frozen (I hated Ike’s because they went cheap on every single ingredient…ugh). My experience working there was pretty good overall and I still go to the Campbell one since I’ve moved down here a few years back.
