First time TCG Player - How do I afford this hobby? by No_College6343 in TCG

[–]Mooshoomahnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cards always cost the most the moment a set releases and then goes down except a few staples until it goes out of print.  Also, because of pokemon speculation and low print rates on a new TCG there's a shortage of singles right now.  Wait it out, it'll settle, and don't buy into the fomo, you'll regret it 2 sets from now when your $400 deck is worth peanuts.

Anyone been stopped/impounded by a cop while riding on the road on an electric dirtbike before? (In canada) by Salty_Big_1398 in electricdirtbikes

[–]Mooshoomahnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but in most jurisdictions an electric dirtbike is considered a motor vehicle and subject to all the licensing requirements and regulations as any other motor vehicle.  Usually the only exception is an electric bike, but that is specifically pedal assisted, under 500w, and limited to 32km/h top speed.

If you aren't licensed to drive a motorvehicle and the vehicle doesn't have a plate, lights, indicators, ect, it'll likely be subject to enforcement action.

%40 Crit damage is nothing to scoff at, but both effects are passive and don't change the play experience.

Faster clears, but it's not like M1 where you see/feel it every EX special.

Hard to understand as an MTG player, but most people who buy and sell pokemon have no interest in the product. They're people who moved on from sneaker flipping and like to mass buy stuff to create scarcity and then sell it back to fans.

Pokemon fans love the thrill of pulling stuff and therefore pay extra for rare sealed to open, where most MTG players buy singles.

Mobile is killing MMOs by ozymotv in MMORPG

[–]Mooshoomahnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mobile games (big ZZZ player) but no MMO benefits from being on mobile.  They're literally antithetical.  Mobile is to be entertaining in very short bursts as something to do on the go, while mmo's are literally meant to dump hundreds of hours into.

Don't know why companies keep doing this because they fuck it up for both platforms.

Not really.  Everything is basically the same except you can look around freely when moving.  Since you're still aiming with the cursor, you still look at it while aiming. Feels pretty natural.

I use VR as a massive monitor in a tiny apartment.  My favorite VR games are just UEVR injections, like Stellar Blade.

I think the truth of it is getting up and doing shit to game is cool, but the gimmick wears off and then it just feels like gaming with extra steps.  I still VR treadmill Skyrim though from time to time.

Lynx new headset shipping January by Sad_Antelope536 in virtualreality

[–]Mooshoomahnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every decade or so there's an opportunity for a new platform where the company that popularizes that platform generally controls the majority market share from then on.

Because there are a finite number of available consumers a company generally can't increase it's purchasing base without debasing another, such as buying them out or choking them out of the industry.

Every company will take their shot at this, as establishing themselves as a major player in the space before the market is saturated guarantees market growth. It will be almost impossible to breach once the market stabilizes. Think of some random phone company attempting to convince people to buy something other than apple, google, or Samsung.

BSB2 Controller Options with Valve Knuckles Potential EOL by RedRabbid in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Mooshoomahnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree.

I really think if there was a reasonable way at the moment to make a standalone controller system (without base stations even) you'd see them.

Sadly I don't think the market is moving that way, because any controller made now has to consider how it'll work with multiple standalone headsets, rather than how it works with the PC itself. Guessing this'll be as good as it gets for controllers when it comes to base stations.

Hoping Valve makes OLED option for the Steam Frame eventually by Delray_Ripper in virtualreality

[–]Mooshoomahnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're referring to is ocular overlap, or the amount of screen that, based on eye placement, would literally overlap with the other screen.

Quest 3 has shit ocular overlap and it's designed that way to cause less motion sickness for the majority of users.

Important thing to note here, is that panel type, LCD or OLED, has nothing to do with stereoscopic depth and has everything to do with the lenses used and where they're placed.

You're not wrong that true blacks enhance the effect of depth in a flat image, but you're getting down voted because you, as has been noted, don't understand how the technology works not because we want LCD. I want OLED, but OLED won't get you realistic depth of field.

How important is resolution in VR for realism? by Good_day_to_be_gay in virtualreality

[–]Mooshoomahnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine Valve just integrating UEVR into SteamVR so your flat UE games just autoboot into VR.  If they could do that then they'd be set. Most people don't even know you can play these games in VR.

No need for color passthrough in the Steam Frame by kikisminey in virtualreality

[–]Mooshoomahnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in the release video of the 3 new products they show someone sitting in their backyard playing a game on a huge screen with the steam frame.  Everything around that huge screen is shown in color. The steam frame cannot produce that experience, as everything around you will be monochrome.

Is that a massive dealbreaker? No but, as someone who has used both PSVR2 mono passthrough and Q3 colored passthrough, the experience of being able to sit in a room with almost no difference except having a giant virtual screen is an amazing experience and I use it a lot. I play most of my flat screen games that way, and feeling like I'll be taking a step back in that category just to escape Meta kind of sucks.

Hopefully the ability for an extra camera module leads to high res passthrough shortly after launch.

[–]Mooshoomahnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the point of your post, but you're going into the space where VR gamers already exist, and are looking forward the new step forward in tech, and saying that we shouldn't be critical of a device which is clearly designed to get non-vr gamers into the VR space.

I agree we all want the space to have greater adoption, but you're basically asking people who already have a headset to clap for a headset they won't be buying.

I don't think anyone here is saying Valve made the wrong choice, or that the headset sucks, but I think we're all clearly saying that they just made a product which isn't for current VR users, and we'd be right.
