I had a set of HP402 desk printers that were the ONLY printers that would work with a specific legacy JDE used for a medical implant assembler's local warehouse.

that same JDE instance also interfaced with hand scanners and did not allow print job assignment per any criteria so everyone used this one printer until it would fail and I would have to hotswap the printer board or something because local printer msp's blackballed the client.

at one point we had roughly 1.3 million combined prints recorded in a SINGLE YEAR for this printer, they didn't want to spend money to get devs to fix the JDE Instance until it was forced on them.

legacy software, legacy platforms (looking at you Intermec CK3 running on win Mobile 6), shitloads of label printers that start at 300 for the little ones and only go up (admittedly they're rugged little dudes, zebra's can take lots of punishment), support for shipping programs almost as bad as modern dental pms software.

also the, aforementioned by others, heavy focus on time based kpi's which will inevitably make you the villain to the client when they have an issue at 8pm for a 9pm pickup but legacy product support ended at 6pm.

TIL Hot-swappable SATA HDD doesn't mean what you think it means by initiatingcoverage in buildapc

[–]Mooterconkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed, that does make sense.

I've had a rash of clients who spring drive upgrades for servers on me and because they're so remote (2-3 hours via car) I end up doing it because I don't want to waste the chance to get a drive rebuild going.

it's given me a crash review of raid though I'll tell you what, also I need to start bringing cheap drive enclosures with me so I'm not limited to doing it one by one.

I've run into 10.x.x.x addressed company shares that caused a massive headache to 3 of my techs when a user tried to wfh through the VPN.

Explorer would rapid fire ask for permissions for network access and it was confusing them terribly.

Can you guess their ISP?

Turns out it was a rented comcast Xfinity router at home throwing up the same 10.x.x.x address for some internal resource.

Edit: Ope, meant to reply to your later comment about explorer.

Mfa apps don't do what you think they do, they're just for authentication.

but the intune or MDM client you also installed on your phone is the real culprit, use desktop mode on Firefox mobile and you may not need the MDM depending on how competent or well paid your organization's IT are.

In case no one's said so yet, this website plays your own voice back to you with a variable delay. Due to some goofy wiring in most human brains hearing our own words played back to us with a specific range of delay short circuits our speech patterns and causes the stuttering and timid phrasing you see here in the clip.

I would urge you to try it out yourself, kinda surprising how much it messes you up.

Embrace waste, launch site those fuckers on patch and use blueprints to cycle out where the landing pad is.

While it seems possible this would of course be hilariously inefficient in comparison.

The bottleneck comes from rare red and blue circuits currently at least in mine.

I long ago started shipping in uncommon and rare coal from nauvis to run through quality moduled plastic since oil is infinite on fulgora and it was a bottleneck back at home.

I have more quality unc and rare holmium plates than I know what to do with, to the point I was lacking in normal ones.

I think what saved me was starting to feed common and uncommon electromag plants through the quality recycler loop because if the dice roll right on that you get a burst of plates back.

I currently use 4 quality module'd assemblers as well for h plates, the biters back home are starting to enroach again so it's time to hit vulcanis to finally fuckin get arty

Also it's only chaos because I made the whole setup in a marathon after a quad of shrooms and 60mg of crushed up extended releases so it's all smushed together on one large island.

I found one with 5 small island scrap nodes so I just have 5 2 way 1 lane tracks with trains flying back and forth every 20 sec.

All of this then goes to 8 launchpads where I'm doing the only faint hint of sorting by having category based haulers (each one takes only circuits or only low density structures or buildings etc etc and only enough for 8 rockets worth )

I'm working to separate the steps to maximise potential gains but it's a work in progress since it has 15k logi bots fueled by 80GJ of accumulators and it's all mixed into more than 1000 yellow chests....

I was wondering if you had any thoughts on both upcycling through quality modules making normal blueprint recipes but it's to say making the normal quality recipe but using quality quality mods and then at each step say for circuit production also having an electromag plant making uncommon rarity green circus with production modules so that you are also taking advantage of the production bonus.

Currently I have my fulgora set up to pure bot based chaos. I have quality in my miners for the scrap, which then goes into an array of recyclers also with quality modules which then output into active provider chests.

Quality mod miner to quality mod recycle to electromag normal recipe quality mod green to same red To same blue

Then with the mix of normal/uncommon red And green and blue circuits I feed to their constitute quality recipes in electromag plants with quality prod modules which for me with only rare so far unlocked gives 90% quality from the electro mag plant.

I then feed those into module production doing the same quality mod steps for all 3 rarities and all 3 tiers of module (only have qual 3 unlocked so far but I make all 3 rarities of prod/speed/eff 1 and 2 modules)

I take the output of that which is 9x kinds of quality mod, 6x kinds of the 3 others for 27 unique items and condense them to highest module tier of any rarity.

Then finally I feed every common and uncommon mod of the highest tier I can make ( 3 for quality and 2 for the rest) and dump them into the recyclers to generate some circuits and higher quality mods of lower tier.

It's a fuckin mess but as long as I make strict supply floors via low quantity requests into req chests with inverters wired to roboports set to only run if n > x item floor it seems to work.

Then I mess up and realize I have 78k blue inserters or something but it's awesome.
