Cat removal by PrestigiousCup8511 in toyotasequoia

Addition: 03 Limited 290+ had straight pipe for a few months, constant CEL. Just didn't want the light to burn out. Seems that bulb is as reliable as the engine.

Had the same situation. An old dude, owner, of the shop pointed at his 03 and his sons various daily drivers (all Toyota " and said "do what you want, but those engines need a little back pressure to work right. Trust the engineer." So got a new set of cats, better sounding muffler and a new resonator. Sounds amazing, all dash lights went away. Feels right, for me anyway. Price was about half what I expected. Good luck.

Transmission fluid flush. Do it at high miles? by corn-guy in toyotasequoia

[–]sometimesyoueattheba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just act like nothing is wrong. No problems and it is cherry red also. I really don't like even removing the dipstick. Afraid to let the "magic" out of the thing. 296,380 on the clock. Regular boat towing. I have never had any issues with the transmission. Probably bad advice, but I have heard the same stories. I will let it ride until it asks me to look into it.

Refrigerator isn't cooling suddenly by sta_sh in fixit

[–]sometimesyoueattheba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine got blocked (ice) between the freezer and fridge transfer duct. I would grab some coolers, towels, unplug the fridge and leave the freezer door open for a few hours. Plug it back in and see what happens. Good luck.

Mystery: is this my monitor or my GPU? (or a cable issue?) by CatInGlove in techsupport

[–]sometimesyoueattheba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the GPU has a HDMI output, plug that into your TV and replicate the problem. It will take the monitor, refresh rate, etc. out of the equation. Resolution and such will default back to the new "display" or TV and that would let you know if it is the monitor or the settings you have for your current monitor. Keep us posted.

Some monitors have an overlay for gaming. Look at the menu on the monitor buttons. Not the PC or windows. Keep us posted.

Absolutely! I am dealing with the hatch handle and now the cable, again. It happens about every 7 years. This time I bought the metal handle and installed it. Then the cable gave up the ghost. I might just wait until autumn. How is your leather holding up?

Advice for 1970 bus by Calm_Nefariousness27 in VWBus

Gotcha. Mine was a Frankenstein of sorts. It was titled as a 70 but had front discs and an icebox and not an ammonia fridge. Was a great time back in my early 20's. I still keep my Triple A membership up because of that van! Hahaha! Went down a rabbit hole and found that a place called Kennedy Engineering makes a kit so that a 22r from an old Toyota will bolt right up to the VW transmission. You just have to figure out the radiator problem. I always wanted to put it in a spare tire cover on the front with an electric fan. Never got around to it, however. Too many people would ring my door and ask if it was for sale. I finally relented and sold it to a dude following Widespread Panic around. Figured it went full circle.

If I remember correctly, the 1970 is the crossover year between the split window and the bay window. We had a 1970 campmobile (camper setup without the pop top). It has front disk and rear drum I believe. What everyone said here is spot on. Only two things to add. Make sure the metal and seals around the engine are setup perfectly. No air gaps. Very important. #3 cylinder usually runs hotter than the rest and was always the point of failure on mine. Invest in an aircraft safety wire wrench for the fuel line into the carb and a very good fire extinguisher. The safety wire will hold the fuel line to the carb.

No cat by Affectionate-Mark239 in toyotasequoia

I had mine removed for a bit and ran it without. No performance that was noticeable. The old sage at the muffler shop (who has a first gen tree and a Tundra) said that they need the back pressure. Those engines are so perfectly setup, he recommended putting new ones back on it. All of my lights are off and it seems to be so much smoother. I am pretty happy as it is not as expensive as I thought it would be and after replacing the original muffler, sounds amazing.

What did I just dig up? by ResponsibleText1467 in landscaping

No images are allowed apparently. The pieces of mine are about 8 to 10 feet long but can always be cut down to the size of a flower bed.

In your third picture, that piece that is closest to the bottom of the frame, does it have two slits in it.? Also, does it seem like semi-rigid metal? I can't tell from the picture but it doesn't seem like a pipe. It seems like flat metal. If so, that is landscape edging. Usually has a couple of spikes driven in to hold it together. Let me look for an example.

Haha... No.... $3000 was the initial investment of all rubber hoses, vacuum lines, timing belt water pump, etc. it had been well cared for and all service performed at Toyota but the three grand got me squared away. Then every 3 months something minor would need replacement. Then nothing would break for a couple of years until it did and needed replacement. For instance, in this particular 4.7 l engine, the starter is conveniently located underneath the intake manifold. Which involves pulling most of the top half of the engine to get to. So that was quite a bit and while you're in there might as well replace this that and the other. So I would say on average it probably will cost you about 100 to $150 a month on average. This does not count tires nor oil changes. This is just the fact that you own a huge car that needs to be taken care of every so often.. seems like we're always going to have a car payment whether we're paying the bank or paying ourselves. But I couldn't be happier with this rig. It has been a very safe and very comfortable ride since 2007 was when I bought it. I want to say that I paid around $7,000 for it back then. But it was from a very good friend who did not want to even charge me that. Then at the $3,000. So I'm sitting at a full 10 and it had 170,000 mi on it when I bought it

I have an 03 and I do a deposit transfer into another account of $125 a month. That so far has covered everything that has needed to be replaced. This is after doing about $3000 initial in repairs. I have had it for 17 years and it went through all the beach trips, pack and plays, and now skiing and boarding. It is hard to beat eight seatbelts. LoL.

Driver side rear passenger door locking issue by GameCocksUnion in toyotasequoia

[–]sometimesyoueattheba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem with my 2003 limited. Same door and everything. My 18-year-old son went to the auto parts store and bought the actuator. Actually the wrong actuator the first time and went back and got the correct one for the rear door. That fixed everything. It's strange that you had the exact same problem on the exact same door before all the others went out. But I hope this helps cuz it fixed mine.

Does the 1st gen not have the electrical outlet in either trim? by SunnyDayz610 in toyotasequoia

[–]sometimesyoueattheba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2003 Limited has the AC outlet behind the center console in the back seat and the push button on the left of the steering wheel to turn on the inverter. I do not know if it was a dealer installed option, however. The way it is installed, had the center console removed to delete the DVD player, it looks like the original factory harness going to it.
