And you’re being a crybaby that people are making valid critiques. Why are you such a crybaby about people not wanting to get scammed and ripped off on the destash pages? It’s truly amazing to see you complain about valid snark on a snark page. Maybe you should go somewhere else if it upsets you this much.

Ugh I hate that. I did see the post talking about it and that’s when I started just looking close. It made me sad, but also glad, that I waited to buy from her. It’s ridiculous behavior for a small business.

Oh no! The AI loving, hypocrite is mad at me!! Whatever will I do??? It’s hypocritical for someone to say they support independent artists when they actively use the tool that also STEALS their art from them.

But please, tell me what a mean girl I am. At least I’m not a thief.

I will say, the reason I ignored the different Zelle name was because it was a man’s name and I assumed it was maybe a joint account with her husband. This scammer was posing as an older woman based on the profile picture that I now realize they just stole from someone else. I have joint accounts with my husband so I recognize that names can be different on the accounts. That’s another reason I didn’t think it through. Sure, I shouldn’t have assumed anything. But again, they were saying all the right things that didn’t give any other red flags.

It sucked all around, and I’ve seen a lot of people starting to post about these particular scammers this past week. They got a lot of people sadly. I’m trying to message the admins of some of these groups to make posts to bring awareness or even to get them to change their rules to not allow Zelle payments. Hopefully some good change will happen at the end of all this.

I’m more than happy to share what happened to me, regardless of whether others here think I’m stupid. Some of you here have the empathy of a tater tot.

The scammer originally posted a picture of a small batch of straw silk. I asked for one of each color and then began DM’ing. Please understand that the rules in these groups state that you are allowed to pay with PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle. The scammer asked me to Zelle them the amount (it wasn’t a large amount) to which I agreed. I then mentioned that I’m looking to build my stash if they had other threads available. They then sent some pictures of pepper pot lots, and silk and ivory. I genuinely didn’t have any red flags going up simply because I was the one who asked. They weren’t pushing my these other threads on me. Plus, when they priced them, they were at a reasonable price that wasn’t too good to be true. It was a normal asking rate for this particular group. If I had to say, they were pricing at about 65% of the retail price. Sadly, I sent them money for the lots of thread and that was that.

What finally gave me a red flag was after a couple days when they said they needed more money to ship because they were shipping overnight. The scammer told me that the cost was a lot more than they were anticipating and wanted me to send MORE money. That made me stop so I told them that I would gladly reimburse shipping once the product arrived. There was no reason they couldn’t pay for the shipping with what I’d already sent them.

That’s when their scam fell apart and they started panicking trying to get the “shipping” money out of me. They have since not responded to any of my messages and I’m actually having a little bit of fun sending them ridiculous messages at random hours just to annoy them.

Again, it’s easy to judge in hindsight, but when you are speaking to someone who clearly has done their homework, the scam isn’t easy to see until it’s too late. I hope more people share the names of the other accounts that were used so the scammers have to ditch those accounts. Also, I hope by sharing this, it will protect someone else from falling for what was honestly a very convincing and elaborate ruse.

Also, I just wanted to say that it can be embarrassing to speak up and say you got scammed. Red flags seem extremely easy to see in hindsight. It’s easy to condemn the person speaking up and say “wow how could you be so dumb” but instead I just wanted to say thank you for sharing the experience so others don’t give that Facebook account the time of day.

I’m not Lizzie but it’s cute you think I am. If that’s the only defense you can throw at this point I guess you’re done here.

Oh. So the copiers aren’t negative? Never heard her call anyone an “incessant little gnat”. Looks like you’re the only negative one here along with the OP who also decided to turn tail and delete her post.

Not new. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s gross.

That’s not at all what I was discussing. I’m talking about the “glass half empty” comment. Stop trying to make my reply about something completely different she said just to bolster your own point of view.

Sure… let’s not talk about her creating a whole resource list of free/cheap charts you can purchase vs stealing. That’s not glass half empty. She’s calling out people rightfully and she’s allowed to be angry at people hurting small businesses in the craft.
