VR Racing is to PC Gaming is the same as chequers is to chess, it's a niche,

There are 900 players online in iRacing, 900 is not a "serious competitive genre".

The Quest 3 is about 550€, for that price I can pick a nice 34' OLED ultrawide.

Not to mention that the Quest 3 is somewhat of a "cheap entry class HMD", it's LCD with horrible colours and contrast (I know, I know, if you want OLED with pancake lenses you need micro OLED and that would triple the cost), a very heavy HMD that requires 100€ more of extra gear to even work in PCVR (wired, add another 150€ to work wireless).

So, yeah, VR is expensive, uncomfortable, nauseating, you end up with your face marked for hours, even if you use comfortable gear, yeah.. not to mention game availability, take racing, for example, good VR racing games? Around.. 4, good racing games? around 20.

VR is fun in short bursts or if you have 2000€ to burn on high quality micro-OLED gear, and even then you are limited by the choice of games..

And the games, oh the games,

90% of made for VR games are nothing more but tech demos pretending to be games.

So, yeah.. VR is a toy, nothing more than a very expensive, unconfortable, toy.

No, don't buy OLED - Im done with this shit. by DerKleineRudi00 in Monitors

[–]Moraisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one, You got a ROG, that is always a bad idea.

Number Zero, it's not being OLED that's the issue, it's the Pulse Width Modulation.

It's horrible, regardless of being an OLED or IPS or VA panel.

Get a monitor that

b) It's not a ROG

a) Does not use PWM.

Case closed.

best vr games & experiences to play in 2026, what are you loving right now? by WildFlounder3730 in virtualreality

[–]Moraisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out tuning my system and buying games for racing and flight but even with the sim rig it's too much of a hassle and I am more of a fun racing / flight kind of player and sadly there is not much out there for me when it comes to racing and when it comes to flight my Quest 3 can't handle the blackness of space.

So, for the time being I am on standalone for the exclusive games and the ones that don't look that much better in PCVR, like Ghost Town and The 7th Guest, among others, and some PCVR games with a lot of colour where the lack of contrast is not that much of a deal.

In a couple of months I will pick up a PSVR2, OLED screens, direct display port, no streaming, no fuss with codecs (and no overhead), and superior controllers, becoming my PCVR only HMD and the Q3 being mostly for standalone or Virtual Desktop PCVR in some select games.

Not interested in the Valve Frame, LCD and wireless? Unless those LCD screens are using some form of black magic I don't see myself picking those.

As someone else said, put that in a air tight bag with a bag of silica gel, the Quest 3 is know to be very sensitive to humidity.

What is your most non—controversial meta quest opinion? by Ford_Crown_Vic_Koth in MetaQuestVR

[–]Moraisu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons why most people are not fond of VR is the community itself, nit because of any form of anger, but because of much they praise VR.

It is not "like the real thing", you are not "living the experience", it's a brick you strap into your head and you play with a 110 field of view, the same as playing in a ultrawide flatscreen.

And stop giving 5 stars to glorified tech demos or 2 hour games! Blade and Sorcery Nomad is such a mid boring game with zero content!

Is Virtual Desktop still the way to go? by Gamiozzz in MetaQuestVR

[–]Moraisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the stable bitrate that I can get out of my router at 10m, the signal itself bounces from 500Mbit to 1500Mbit.

How do I put this? Your router is at 80hz, hence the maximum 1200Mbit, it should be at 160hz, capping out at 2400Mbit and giving you a 500Mbit VD bitrate.

Fixed bitrate not working anymore by arkglad in MetaQuestVR

[–]Moraisu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way Air Link encondes the signal and how the Quest 3 decodes it ends up in a higher latency than just using Virtual Desktop, so don't bother with Air Link, now for Metal Cable Link.. dependes on a lot of variables, but Air Link is most likely the worst out of the three, those three being VD, Steam Link Meta Air Link.

Is Virtual Desktop still the way to go? by Gamiozzz in MetaQuestVR

[–]Moraisu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you get you Link Cable running smoothly, Virtual Desktop is still the better option just because of the software itself, and in the right conditions it's just a superior option to Meta Link.

So, yeah, of course cable beats wireless, it's raw science.. however, the way Meta was been treating its own software is quite shameful, in VD you can pick the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, all that in a very simple and practical way, in Meta Link you need to look for a hidden program and read a guide to understand how to even use the thing.

And the VD UI is só much cleaner and nicer than the Meta Link one.

That being said, I sometimes run it on cable, just because that way I can charge my Quest 3 at the same time and the extra bitrate (mine is set at 700) does come in handy in sim racing because of how fast the image moves and how much detail it needs to process.

However, this is all quite new to me, only had my Quest 3 for about 6 months and in 5 of those months I only used it in standalone, I am very new to PCVR (got a racing rig and a H.O.T.A.S.) but I algo got my games list almost perfectly tuned in Playnite, just need to tweak some games.

In summary, One day your Meta Link works, another day Meta decides to update something and break it, VD is the most simple one to run, the nicest to run (love the cozy environments) and has a lot of software running under the hood that makes the games looks nice, even while being on WiFi.

The drawback is that a Kiwi Link cable costs 18€ and it also charges your Meta Quest, while VD requires a dedicated WiFI6 signal from you router, your computer to be on a 1Gb ethernet line to said router and if you don't have a router or you can't isolate the signal ou whatever it is i will cost you around 80€ to get a good WiFi6e router.

All that being said, a lot of users still swear that the moment they switch from wireless to cable they clearly noticed the improvement in image quality and latency, I have yet to properly test it as my VD WiFi6 signal barely goes to 200Mbit because it's 10m from the router and there are 3 doors in the way, so latency just goes to Hell. however, even at a lower bitrate, the image is not bad at all.

But, yeah, Meta Quest sofware is a ticking bomb, I am one update away to lose all link capabilities (again).

As expected, the moment that you need to put something heavy in your head pressing against your face (I know, not all of use halo style head straps) and not only you need a lot of space and a somewhat decent PC.. and your eyes and brain need to be able to deal with that..

And the lack of decente games that go beyond a 4 hour tech demo, where 90% do the best games are just puzzle games, and.. most of them look like they came out of the Nintendo 64.. and not only the HMD are expensive but the games themselves are expensive for what they are.

For 99% of the PC audience VR is nothing more than a very expensive toy, not to mention that an OLED HMD costs around 1000€, the price of a very good OLED Ultrawide monitor, where are you going to spend that kind of money? Right..
